It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. That will continue for the future.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
Click on an individual movie poster to see it full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #7.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is The Punisher. This 1989 action film stars Dolph Lundgren and Louis Gossett Jr.

Based on the Marvel Comic, Dolph Lundgren is Frank Castle, an ex-cop who lives in the sewers and acts as judge, jury, and executioner to the city's criminals in retaliation for the unpunished murders of his wife and kids. Frank's ex-partner Jake (Louis Gossett Jr.) finally catches up with the vigilante as he tries to stop the Japanese mob, which is trying to take over the city's mafia operation.

- When Frank Castle's family is murdered by criminals, he wages war on crime as a vigilante assassin known only as The Punisher.

The second movie is Planet of the Apes. This 1968 adventure film stars Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, and many others you'd recognize if not in a monkey suit :)

- An astronaut crew crash-lands on a planet in the distant future where intelligent talking apes are the dominant species, and humans are the oppressed and enslaved.

The third film is Burglar. This 1987 comedy stars Whoopi Goldburg, Bobcat Goldthwait, John Goodwin, and Leslie Ann Warren. In spite of whoopi's politics, she is funny in this film.

Bernice Rhodenbarr is a retired "cat burglar" who runs a used bookstore. She is lured out of retirement when a retired cop demands money to keep quiet about some evidence he withheld in one of her prior jobs. She agrees to a burglary job for a lady dentist, but theft leads to murder, and it's up to Bernice to try to prove her innocence.

The fourth film is Halloween. This 1978 horror masterpiece by John Carpenter stars a young Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence. This was the first movie to use Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult.

The year is 1963, the night: Halloween. Police are called to 43 Lampkin Ln. only to discover that 15 year old Judith Myers has been stabbed to death, by her 6 year-old brother, Michael. After being institutionalized for 15 years, Myers breaks out on the night before Halloween. No one knows, nor wants to find out, what will happen on October 31st 1978 besides Myers' psychiatrist, Dr. Loomis. He knows Michael is coming back to Haddonfield, but by the time the town realizes it, it'll be too late for many people.

- Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.

The fifth film is Taxi Driver. This 1976 Martin Scorsese crime drama stars Robert De Niro, Cybal Shepherd, Peter Boyd, and Jodie Foster. This is a gritty movie about the mid-1970s in New York City as seen by a night cab driver.

- A mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action by attempting to liberate a presidential campaign worker and an underage prostitute.

The sixth movie is The Day the Earth Stood Still. This 1951 sci-fi classic stars Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, and Hugh Marlowe.

A gleaming unidentified flying object zooms in from deep space, penetrates Earth's atmosphere, and lands smoothly in Cold War-Washington, D.C. Encircled by large yet feeble military forces, the peaceful intergalactic ambassador, Klaatu, emerges from the mysterious vessel accompanied by the silent but dangerous robot, Gort, only to witness firsthand the earthlings' hospitality. The sophisticated humanoid declares that he comes in peace; however, he needs to assemble the world's greatest minds to hear his merciful warning and a definitive ultimatum. Is Klaatu the messenger of humanity's doom?

One of my favorite movies. The first "serious" sci-fi film.

I like them all except burglar, not a fan of whoopi.
I understand. That's one reason there are 6 this weekend instead of the usual 5.

It is a funny movie and I thought a comedy would be good with the current stress levels.

If it turns out to be a big issue, I can make changes until tomorrow evening.

Lots of good choices here, thanks! Klaatu Barada Nikto ... Scared the heck out of me as a kid.

Same here.

It is a very effective and yet a very subtle drama.

Especially for 1951, it essentially laid the groundwork for a raft of 50's alien sci fi movies.

I watched this one again today. It's a 2010 show from The History Channel about a global pandemic taking down civilization as seen through the eyes of a family living in Los Angeles. It's a how-to with accompanying commentary by various "experts," although some of the advice seems more than a little sketchy to me. Before anyone compares it a little too closely with today's Coronavirus pandemic, remember that in this scenario there were already more than 100 million dead in the US alone by week 12.

I remember watching that show several years ago. You're right about some of their choices, but it's a good show for what-if and how-would-you-respond scenarios.

1911, how do you fine these? ( rhetorical question ). These are some very old and good choices you come up with and is appreciated. Just the other day, I was browsing Prime and NetFlix for the original Planet of the Apes, and came up dry. Buying the series is too risky as you can't tell what you're going to get.

So, here's a request for your future searches: 5 Million Years To Earth ( aka Quartermass and the Pit ... as released in Britain ). This was a 1967 scifi that, while a bit cheesy by today's standards, is still a favorite of mine because I remember it scaring the hell out me when I was a kid. Would love to watch that again. Have searched many venues to buy it, but it's nowhere to be found. Maybe you're superb movie searching skills can find it. If so, please post it here.

I found this one at archive.org. The quality is not great, but it is watchable. Youtube didn't have anything obvious.

How do I find a movie? Usually I start searching for a specific film I've seen or certain unique terms like x264, YIFY, bluray, 720p, etc. From there, I refine the searches and see where they lead. Once I find something interesting then see what else they have posted. Sometimes that nets another decent movie or 2. The fun, and often best, ones have random number titles and I have to watch a few minutes of each to see if I recognize it or find enough clues to work out the title. Then IMDB tells me everything about the film.

Thanks for that. Watched it again, and what a trip down memory lane. It actually wasn't as cheesy as I recall, and frankly would be a good source for a remake if any aspiring producer so chose.

I recall watching it about 10 years ago on youtube. It was an interesting old sci-fi movie. I have it saved somewhere.
I learned long ago to never trust youtube, or similar, to keep interesting videos available.
