I know Saturday is D-Day, but The Longest Day is just not available. If you have links for similar WW2 movies, post 'em!

It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. That will continue for the future.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
Click on an individual movie poster to see it full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #8.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is The Caine Mutiny. This 1954 war drama stars Humprey Bogart, Jose Ferrer, Van Johnson, and Fred MacMurray.

During the World War II, the crew of a small insignificant ship in the U.S. Pacific Fleet experience an event unlike any event ever experienced by the United States Navy. A Ship's Captain is removed from command by his Executive Officer in an apparent outright act of mutiny. As the trial of the mutineers unfold, it is learned that the Captain of the ship was mentally unstable, perhaps even insane. The Navy must decide if the Caine Mutiny was a criminal act, or an act of courage to save a ship from destruction at the hands of her Captain?

The second movie is Papillon. This 1973 prison drama stars Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman, and Victor Jory. This has spanish subtitles, sorry.

A semi-fictional account of Henri Charrière's time in the penal system in French Guyana - some of it spent on infamous Devil's Island - is presented. It's the early 1930s. Charrière - nicknamed Papillon because of his butterfly tattoo - and Louis Dega are two among many who have been convicted in the French judicial system, they now being transferred to French Guyana where they will serve their time, never to return to France even if they are ever released. A safe-cracker by criminal profession, Papillon is serving a life sentence for murdering a pimp, a crime for which he adamantly states he was framed. Dega is a wealthy counterfeiter, who expects his well-to-do wife eventually to get him released. At Papillon's initiative, the duo enters into a business arrangement: Papillon will provide protection for Dega, who, in turn, will finance Papillon's escape attempt. As the two men spend more time together than either had expected, their burgeoning friendship ends up being an important factor altering their original plans, needed as they work with and against others who are trying to achieve their own goals, sometime conflicting with those of Papillon and Dega.

The third movie is Behind Enemy Lines. This 2001 war film stars Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson, and Gabriel Macht. Last week was a pilot shot down over Vietnam in Bat*21. This week it is a navigator shot down over Bosnia. Both have Gene Hackman.

A Navy navigator is shot down over enemy territory in Bosnia and is ruthlessly pursued by a secret police enforcer and the opposing troops. Meanwhile his commanding officer goes against orders in an attempt to rescue him.

The fourth film is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This 1954 Disney movie of the Jules Verne classic stars Kirk Douglas, James Mason, Peter Lorre, and Paul Lukas.

In 1868, a monster is terrorizing the seas, sinking ships! Three unlikely companions board a warship in search of the beast, only to find out the hard way it is an engine of destruction: a submarine boat. The trio are captured by the vessel's commander, Captain Nemo, and accompany him on a journey of adventure and discovery as the Nautilus and her occupants travel some 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The fifth movie is Witness. This 1985 drama stars Harrison Ford, Kelly McGillis, and Lucas Haas.

After witnessing a brutal murder, young Amish boy Samuel and his mother Rachel seek protection from police officer John Book. When Book uncovers evidence of police corruption, Book must take Rachel and Samuel, and flee to the Amish countryside where Rachel grew up. There, immersed in Amish culture and tradition, Book and Rachel begin a cautious romance.

The sixth movie is World War 3. This 1982 made-for-TV film stars Brian Keith, Rock Hudson, Kathy Lee Crosby, and David Soul.

In the early 1980's, Soviet paratroopers drop into Alaska to sabotage the oil pipeline under construction. This is in retaliation for a United States led grain embargo that is crippling Russia. This movie is about the Soviet attack held off by lightly armed National Guard and the high-level negotiations to avoid a war. It's above average for a TV movie and likely very plausible at the time. I've watched this a few times over the years. Note that this was filmed for non-wide TVs. They have chopped the top and bottom of the picture to make it widescreen, but it actually works and watches fine.

I watched Witness several years ago, and loved it. Of course, that had nothing to do with Harrison Ford as the lead male charachter!
