It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. I doubt that will change in the future.

The first movie this week is Red Dawn. This 2012 remake of the 1984 classic is enjoyable and well done IMHO.

Originally the Chinese were to be the invaders, but after filming started, the Chinese threatened to buy, and bury, the film unless there were changes. So North Korea decided to invade the pacific northwest instead of the Chinese. :D

The city of Spokane, Washington is awakened by a North Korean paratrooper invasion. Marine Corps veteran Jed Eckert and his brother Matt escape with a group of friends to an isolated cabin in the woods. There they witness the execution of their father at the hands of the ruthless Captain Cho. The brothers unite with friends to form a guerrilla resistance group--the Wolverines--to drive the invaders from their home.

- A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers.

The second film is Cactus Jack also known as The Villian. This 1979 comedy western stars the recently departed Kirk Douglas, Arnold Swartzenegger, and Ann Margret.

"Cactus" Jack Slade (Douglas) is the meanest bad man in the west, or so he thinks. When a bank robbery goes awry, he lands in jail facing a hangman's noose. When the corrupt owner of the bank offers him a job, Jack sees a chance to stay alive and get rich in the process. All he has to do is steal a strongbox full of money the banker lent to Mr. Parody Jones who needs it to keep his mining operation going. If he defaults on the loan, our "friendly" banker takes over the mine. Ms. Charming Jones (Ann Margret) comes to town to collect the money and take it back to her father, Parody. To ensure the money makes it back home, Parody has called in a favor from a man who owes him a life debt. Enter Handsome Stranger (Schwarzenegger). The toughest and strongest hero in the west. As tough as a steel plate but, unfortunately, just as dense. As Charming and Handsome set off on their journey, Jack sets out after them. Using his trusty "Bad Men Of The West" handbook, Jack sets one trap after another only to have each one go awry in true Wile E. Coyote versus The Roadrunner fashion. With Loony Tunes-style sight gags in almost every scene, this movie will have you and your whole family laughing up a storm.

The third movie is Lucy. This 2014 film stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. It's an action, sci-fi thriller and a wild, enjoyable trip to watch. The movie evolves as she evolves; hang on :)

It was supposed to be a simple job. All Lucy had to do was deliver a mysterious briefcase. However Lucy is caught up in a nightmarish deal where she is captured and turned into a drug mule for a new and powerful synthetic drug. When the bag she is carrying inside of her stomach leaks, Lucy's body undergoes unimaginable changes that begins to unlock her mind's full potential. With her new-found powers, Lucy turns into a merciless warrior intent on getting back at her captors. She receives invaluable help from Professor Norman (Freeman), the leading authority on the human mind, and a French police captain.

- A woman, accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic

The fourth film is Ice Station Zebra. This 1968 cold war adventure stars Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan, and Jim Brown. Being based on an Alistair MacLean book, you really don't know what is going to happen next. The video quality on this is very good especially for an older film.

Commander James Ferraday, captain of the nuclear submarine USS Tigerfish, is dispatched to the polar ice region on a rescue mission after an emergency signal is received from a research station, Ice Station Zebra. On board is a civilian and likely British spy, David Jones, whose orders are secret. Ferraday doesn't like being kept in the dark but Jones is secretive and doesn't give much away. Along the way, they collect two additional passengers, a Russian named Boris Vaslov, also likely a spy, and U.S. Marine Capt. Leslie Anders who will takes command of the Marines traveling as passengers. It soon becomes apparent that the mission is more that just a simple rescue operation. It also becomes apparent that there is a traitor on board the submarine who is out to sabotage the entire mission.

- USN nuclear sub USS Tigerfish must rush to the North Pole to rescue the staff of Ice Station Zebra weather station.

The fifth film is The Wizard of Oz. This 1939 classic stars Judy Garland and her ruby red slippers.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.

- Dorothy Gale is swept away from a farm in Kansas to a magical land of Oz in a tornado and embarks on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home to Kansas and help her friends as well.

The sixth film is Kung Fu Killer. This 2008 3-hour, 2 part, mini-series stars David Carradine and Daryl Hannah. It continues the story of White Crane from the 1970's TV show Kung Fu.

To avenge the murder of his Wudang Grandmaster, White Crane (Carradine), a monk and spiritual master of the martial arts, infiltrates the 1929 Shanghai underground, where he forms an unusual bond with a New York lounge singer (Hannah) and her gangster boss. In this twisted den of crime, Crane must cross the line between true justice and cold-blooded revenge. To avenge his enemies Crane is conflicted between modern weaponry and traditional brute force in a martial arts extravaganza.

I watched Ice Station Zebra last night. It's been at least 5 years since seeing it. Good cold war intrigue and lots of time inside a submarine.
