It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. I doubt that will change in the future.
Click on an individual movie poster if you would like to see it full size.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
The movie trailers are located in post #6.

Enjoy the Show!

Considering current news, this link to Steven King's The Stand might be of interest: PLAY - TB2K Movies - Steven King's THE STAND (1994) - DAMNATION ALLEY (1977) - THE DAY AFTER (1983) and others
I tried to find Contagion from 2011, but no luck. It's a good, accurate, kind of scary film about China Flu.

The first movie this week is PROMETHEUS. This big budget 2012 Ridley Scott film is sort of a prequel to the Alien(s) franchise. The visuals on this are incredible.

The year is 2093. Discovery of a recurring ancient cave painting has prompted a space expedition. A vessel called Prometheus carries a crew of 17 to a destination where it is believed the answers to human origin lie.

- Following clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.

The second film is Hell Comes to Frogtown. This 1988 post-nuke comedy classic stars (Rowdy) Roddy Piper and Sandahl Bergman. I thought this was fun and funny.

After a nuclear war, the survivors are divided between horribly mutated beings who live on desolate reservations and fertile women who are searching for scarce virile men in order to multiply and start a new human society.

Sam Hell is a prisoner of the female faction who took over the US after nuclear war. Mutants thrive in the wasteland while humans face possible extinction due to infertility. Bomb strapped to his crotch, Hell is forced to rescue a group of fertile women from a harem ran by an evil mutant gang.

The third film is The Quick and The Dead. This 1987 Louis Lamour western stars Sam Elliot, Tom Conti, and Kate Capshaw.

Hoping to start a new life, Duncan and Susanna McKaskel are a young married couple traveling to the West in a covered wagon with their son. Along the way, they stop in a small town where they meet a gang of bandits. After Duncan angers the gang, he and Susanna flee the town. A mysterious stranger soon begins helping the family as they try to find a new home and protects them from the gang.

- A mysterious stranger rides into a homesteading family's life when they are attacked by a ruthless gang.

The fourth film is North West Frontier. This 1959 film was released many years ago in the US as Flame Over India. This video is the full uncut British release. The stars are Kenneth More (big British star also in Zulu) and Lauren Bacall. More is good as the British officer in charge of a mess. This is the first movie I've seen with Lauren Bacall and wow, just wow. This is a British train adventure set in 1905 India.

In northwestern India soon after the turn of the 20th Century, Moslem rebels seek to kill a six-year-old Hindu prince to end his family line. Captain Scott of the British Army is ordered to get the prince out of the region safely. Adventure ensues as Scott sneaks the child away, through 300 miles of Moslem-held territory, by train. Also on board are the boy's American governess, an arms merchant, a cynical reporter, and two upper class Britons.

- In British India, a young prince must be taken to safety across rebel-held territory, and an old train is the only way to do it

The fifth film is THEM! This 1954 sci-fi film stars James Whitmore, James Arness (Matt Dilion in Gunsmoke), Joan Weld, and Edmund Gwenn. This was a major film in 1954. It was originally planned to be filmed in color and 3D (in 1954!), but the color and 3D were cut just before filming started.

- The earliest atomic tests in New Mexico cause common ants to mutate into giant man-eating monsters that threaten civilization.

- One of the best of the 1950's science fiction golden age

It wasn't intended to be a true prequel, just sort-of and made in the same area of space. I think there were plans for a Prometheus 2, but it wasn't made.

I enjoyed it and thought the visuals were great.

Flame Over India is a wonderful film. It's one of those where you say "They don't make them like this any more.".

If Flame Over India resonates at all, consider watching The Jewel In The Crown.

A truly classic Sci-Fi film!

This scene scared the living Stouffer's Stove Top Stuffing out of me when I was a little sheisser.

Shortly after posting it here 2 months ago, the fourth film, North West Frontier (1959) was pulled from youtube. I recently found the same video on archive.org. I'm bumping this with the new source for North West Frontier. It's still a good film. The other 4 videos are still available and Them! seemed especially well received.

At first, I thought "The Quick and the Dead" was gonna be the Sam Raimi version (1995; thought the 1987 was a typo); a personal guilty pleasure.

One of my favorite scenes; serious Gun Porn:

If you like Sam Elliot in a Louis Lamour western, you should give the 1987 version a chance. It's an under-rated film IMHO.
The 1995 version of the same title is also quite good.

Thanks.
For any who may not know, you can click the "movies" tag at the top to find all of the movie threads.
That would provide a few hours of distraction/entertainment while stuck at home.

Shooter, a bit of trivia about THEM!: All of the actors using the real flamethrowers were WW2 vets who had used them in combat.
