It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.

The first movie is Pitch Perfect. This 2012 musical comedy stars Anna Kendrick, Ben Platt, and Rebel Wilson.

The Barden Bellas are a collegiate, all-girl acappella singing group thriving on female pop songs and their perfect looks. After a disastrous failing at last year's finals, they are forced to regroup. Among the new recruits is freshman Beca, an independent, aspiring DJ with no interest in the college life. But after she meets Jesse, from the rival all-male acappella group, Beca has a new outlook and takes it upon herself to help the Bellas find their new look and sound and get back into the competition.

The second movie is Pitch Perfect 2. If you liked the first one, this 2015 film continues the series.

The Bellas are back, and they are better than ever. After being humiliated in front of none other than the President of the United States of America, the Bellas are taken out of the Aca-Circuit. In order to clear their name and regain their status, the Bellas take on a seemingly impossible task: winning an International competition no American team has ever won. In order to accomplish this monumental task, they need to strengthen the bonds of friendship and sisterhood, and blow away the competition with their amazing aca-magic! With all new friends and old rivals tagging along for the trip, the Bellas can hopefully accomplish their dreams once again.

The third film is Only Lovers Left Alive. This 2013 dramatic comedy stars Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, and Mia Wasikowska. This is an art house vampire film suggested by Roger Thornhill. He's a fan of director Jim Jarmusch. This film has foreign subtitles.

Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

The fourth movie is Jack Reacher. This 2012 action mystery stars Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, and Robert Duvall. This is an action film, but it also a mystery that keeps revealing information that changes how you look at it. It's like peeling an onion, you never know what the next layer will reveal. It's a good film and it draws you into the story. Tom Cruise shows that he is still a good actor. Robert Duvall is a crusty ol' Marine. There is enough firearm info to keep a shooter interested. This has foreign subtitles.

In an innocent heartland city, five are shot dead by an expert sniper. The police quickly identify and arrest the culprit, and build a slam-dunk case. But instead of confessing, the accused man writes the words, "Get Jack Reacher." Reacher himself sees the news report and turns up in the city. The defense is immensely relieved, but Reacher has come to bury the guy. Shocked at the accused's request, Reacher sets out to confirm for himself the absolute certainty of the man's guilt, but comes up with more than he bargained for.

The fifth movie is Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. This 1961 adventure stars Walter Pidgeon, Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, and Robert Sterling. This is a high quality version of this sci-fi classic.

Admiral Nelson takes a brand new atomic submarine through its paces. When the Van Allen radiation belt catches fire, the admiral must find a way to beat the heat or watch the world go up in smoke.

The sixth movie is The Asphalt Jungle. This 1950 crime drama stars Sterling Haydon, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, and James Whitmore. This is a high quality version of this classic, but it has foreign subtitles.

When the intelligent criminal Erwin "Doc" Riedenschneider is released from prison, he seeks a fifty thousand-dollar investment from the bookmaker Cobby to recruit a small gang of specialists for a million-dollar jewel heist. Doc is introduced to the lawyer Alonzo D. Emmerich who offers to finance the whole operation and buy the gems immediately after the burglary. Doc hires the safe cracker Louis Ciavelli, the driver Gus Minissi, and the gunman Dix Handley to the heist. His plan works perfectly but bad luck and betrayals compromise the steps after the heist and the gangsters need to flee from the police.

Thank You. Only Lovers Left Alive is actually on the list of movies I'm supposed to watch "someday".

..Now, if I don't break my neck keeping the internet magic-ball de-iced, I'll get that scratched off.
If I "do" break my neck trying to watch it, doncha go feelin' bad or nothin' I'm sure it will be worth it :jstr:

I've been putting the ones I've already downloaded onto a big micro SD card, and tinkering with the radio in my car today (yeah I do weird what if projects sometimes). It's working great; I can watch DVDs on the radio in the car but having them on SD card makes it a lot simpler (no disks to juggle around). The missus will have all kinds of entertainment when we travel, I can now offer her "in flight" movies :)

A made-for-cable HBO original movie which first aired on March 18, 1995. It was directed by actor Ken Olin and stars Don Johnson, Craig Sheffer, Gabrielle Anwar, the greats Bob Gunton and Rod Steiger.

The story centers on a United States Army Cavalry detachment in 1934 - refusing to slaughter hundreds of army horses after being ordered to do so by General Douglas MacArthur. The movie follows the plight of the officers as they disobey a direct order to escape with the horses and lead them to Canada - now pursued by the military, but now the bullets aren't just aimed at the horses.

As soldiers they were taught to fight for honor. As men they were willing to die for it in an attempt to save the animals that the Army no longer needs as it modernizes toward a mechanized military.

The movie claims to be based on a true story but without firm evidence to support the claim. Perhaps, It was based on a story that was told by cowboys to writer Dennis Lynton Clark. The cowboys were working on his father's ranch in Montana during the 1940s. Research conducted at the U.S. Army Center of Military History and the records at the MacArthur Memorial show no record of a slaughter of horses as alleged in the film, or any order or plan for such destruction. Nonetheless, this is a very well made and surprisingly authentic TV-movie from the 1990s, and a great story - even if largely fiction.

Watching Voyage. They spent a bunch of money on sets for this. Somehow I had totally forgotten that when ice breaks off of icebergs, the pieces sink. Glad to be reminded. What a great film!

This is well done and holds up nicely considering it's 60 yrs old. Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeanie) is Admiral Nelsons aide ;)

Just finished Asphalt Jungle. Marilyn doesn't get any billing, and this was maybe her second film, but when she's on the screen she owns it. Great film.
