It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. That will continue for the future.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
Click on an individual movie poster to see it full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #6.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Panic in Year Zero. This 1962 survival adventure stars Ray Milland, Jean Hagan, and Frankie Avalon. This classic is an early 60's nuclear survival movie and a personal favorite. Many have seen this, but if not, you are in for a treat. Get the big popcorn. This is a high qualtiy version of the film, especially the .mkv download link at the bottom.

They had a sale on movie posters for this one. :)
If really interested, the IMDb link has images of some of the original advertising that theaters could purchase and use for this film. (film geek mode off)

- A family leaves L.A. for a camping trip just before a nuclear bomb destroys the city. As everything descends into chaos, the father must fight to keep his family alive.

While on a fishing trip, Harry Baldwin (Ray Milland) and his family hear an immense explosion and realise the awful truth; Los Angeles has been leveled by a nuclear attack. Mayhem and madness are everywhere. Escaping to the hills with his family, he sets about the business of surviving in a world where, he knows, the old ideals of humanity will be among its first casualties.

This film also has an MKV link that is larger (higher quality), BUT it will only play on media players that support .mkv files such as VLC media player (my choice). If you don't recognize .mkv format, just use the normal download link and the quality of that is still good.

The second movie is Apollo 13. This 1995 space drama stars Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris.

It had been less than a year since man first walked on the Moon, but as far as the American public was concerned, Apollo 13 was just another "routine" space flight--until these words pierced the immense void of space: "Houston, we have a problem." Stranded 205,000 miles from Earth in a crippled spacecraft, astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert fight a desperate battle to survive. Meanwhile, at Mission Control, astronaut Ken Mattingly, flight director Gene Kranz and a heroic ground crew race against time--and the odds--to bring them home.

The third movie is Vanishing Point. This 1971 car chase thriller stars Barry Newman and a 1970 Dodge Challenger with a big V8.

Kowalski works for a car delivery service. He takes delivery of a 1970 Dodge Challenger to take from Colorado to San Francisco, California. Shortly after pickup, he takes a bet to get the car there in less than 15 hours. After a few run-ins with motorcycle cops and highway patrol they start a chase to bring him into custody. Along the way, Kowalski is guided by Supersoul - a blind DJ with a police radio scanner. Throw in lots of chase scenes, gay hitchhikers, a naked woman riding a motorbike, lots of Mopar and you've got a great cult hit from the early 70's.

The fifth movie is The Terror of Tiny Town. This 1938 western comedy stars an all midget cast. Many of them went on to be the Munchkin's in the Wizard of Oz which was filmed a year later. This is a funny B-western, just with little people.

- An evil gunslinging midget comes to terrorize the good little people of Tiny Town. The townspeople organize to defeat him, and zany antics ensue

Good flix's........Have (DVD) Panic In The Year Zero in my Doomer porn video collection and also have Vanishing Point on DVD. I remember me and my buddy went to the theaters at Del Amo Mall in Torrance, Ca. to see Vanishing Point when it came out back in '71, heck you could even smoke cigarettes inside of the theater, the seats had ashtrays built in..

All of the movies this week are fantastic! Panic in the year zero is a favorite. Vanishing point is one of my top 5 movies EVER. Like Sierra Don, we saw this at the movies. I was 7 and it was plaing at the Marlboro drive in in Marietta, GA. LOVED the challenger, as a youth seeing a naked woman on a motorcycle was a definite treat. The whole "vibe" of the movie screams early 70's and post hippie culture...... And the Tiny Town movie is exactly the stress relief comedy movie after what's been one hellacious week for yours truly.

Two thumbs up!

Thanks, just finished Vanishing point. I saw it in the theater back in 1971, lots of free spirits in the
movie. That time period was all together different. I'm surprised that we all lived though it as it
was crazy, crazy and more crazy.......

I just finished watching Kill Me Again. It's pretty good for a noir seedy crime mystery.
It's one of those that if you think you know what will happen in the next 15 minutes, you'll guess wrong.

It's time to watch Panic in the Year Zero for at least the 10th time.

Question: I have a Roku device attached to my TV. Given this, is there a way I can easily stream from these URLs?

I've never used a ROKU device and don't understand the details of how they work.
For reference, I do everything on a desktop PC and never watch TV directly.
I'll throw out some guesses and maybe one will be close enough to adapt.

Could you download the file to a computer then stream from that over local wifi?

Can ROKU act as an internet browser? If so, maybe connect to the URL then watch over that?
The download links are direct links to the movie file.

Can you watch youtube over ROKU? If so, the same technique might work for the ones from archive.org?

"Vanishing Point" is a perfect 70's drive in flick.

That movie sold a lot of Dodge Challengers.

I missed ship's movement in 1973 to buy one.

I usually don't like remakes, but the 1997 version of this movie was really good as well. In some ways I liked it better.

Here is the ending of the 1997 version of Vanishing Point. (Last 10 minutes)
In this version of the movie then the reason why he has been racing across the country is to get back to his sick wife.

Your response is prompting some thoughts for me. Things to investigate. Thanks !

If you find a good solution for ROKU access to the movies, please post it. Others might be interested as well.
