With the Iran situation this week, I decided to post 6 movies to help kick back from the real world for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment or like a specific choice.
The first and last 2 movies are from youtube and the middle 3 are from archive.org.
Click one of the individual movie posters if you would like to see it full size.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
The movie trailers are located in post #7.

Enjoy the Show!

First up is Joe Versus the Volcano. This 1990 romance/comedy stars Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, and Lloyd Bridges.

Joe versus the Volcano is a fable which opens with somewhat surrealistic scenes of the dehumanization of Joe Bank's job and work environment with imagery that seems to have been inspired by the classic film Metropolis. Joe is diagnosed with an incurable disease, quits his dehumanizing job, and accepts an offer to briefly "live like a king, die like a man" - but to fulfill his agreement he must willingly jump into a live volcano on the island of Waponi Woo in order to appease the volcano god. En route to the island, Joe meets a series of interesting characters in NYC and LA, then boards a yacht, captained by Patricia Graynamore. During the voyage Joe and Patricia survive disaster, fall in love, and finally arrive at the island where they face their destiny.

- When a hypochondriac learns that he is dying, he accepts an offer to throw himself in a volcano at a tropical island, and along the way there, learns to truly live.

EDIT: I just discovered this has arabic subtitles, they don't show up until 5 minutes into the movie, sorry. They are really skinny subtitles though :) if you choose to watch it.

The second feature is Jamanji. The 1995 comedy/adventure stars Robin Williams, a young Kirsten Dunst, and Bonnie Hunt.

Jumanji, one of the most unique--and dangerous--board games ever, falls into the hands of the curious teen, Alan Parrish, in 1969. Mysterious and magical, the game strands the unsuspecting boy in the lush, savage forests of a mythical realm. Nearly three decades later, the game releases him before the awed eyes of two young orphaned siblings. Now, the wild and incessant beat of the jungle's tribal drums is calling for the now-adult Alan and the other hesitant players, as the one who rolls the dice must never leave undone what the roll has started. Has anyone ever escaped from the game and Jumanji's formidable foes?

- Alan Parrish has been trapped in Jumanji, an ancient magical board game, for 26 years. When he is finally freed by two children, a herd of exotic wild animals has accidentally been released as well, and he must try to save his hometown from destruction.

- When two kids find and play a magical board game, they release a man trapped in it for decades--and a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game.

The third feature is Zulu. This 1964 war drama is about the Battle for Rourke's Drift in 1879 Africa.

On January 22, 1879, the British Army suffered one of its worst defeats when Zulu forces massacred 1500 of its troops at Isandlhwana. A short time after the main battle, a Zulu force numbering nearly four thousand warriors advanced on a British hospital and supply dump guarded by one hundred fifty Welsh infantrymen. This movie concentrates on this twelve-hour battle.

- The epic story of courage, honour and pride.

The fifth feature is Silent Night. This 2002 Christmas drama stars Linda Hamilton (of Terminator fame).

Fact-based World War II story set on Christmas Eve, 1944, finds a German Mother and her son seeking refuge in a cabin on the war front. When she is invaded by three American soldiers and then three German soldiers, she successfully convinces the soldiers to put aside their differences for one evening and share a Christmas dinner.

Silent night was excellent !

Men of Harlech (with lyrics)
RT 02:41
================

"Men of Harlech" or "The March of the Men of Harlech" (in Welsh: Rhyfelgyrch Gwŷr Harlech) is a song and military march which is traditionally said[1] to describe events during the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468.[2][3] Commanded by Constable Dafydd ap Ieuan, the garrison withstood the longest known siege in the history of the British Isles.[4] "Through Seven Years" is an alternative name for the song.[5] The song has also been associated with the earlier, briefer siege of Harlech Castle about 1408, which pitted the forces of Owain Glyndŵr against the future Henry V of England.
"Men of Harlech" is important for Welsh national culture. The song gained international recognition when it was featured in the 1941 movie How Green Was My Valley and the 1964 film Zulu.

Couldn't make it very far into 12 Mile Road. Too heavyhanded with the bad kid/good country stuff and not realistic on discipline (naturally, how else do you get bad kids?) I'd rather see Selleck in a Louis Lamour western, with My Man Sam (Elliot).

I haven't watched that one, but from the good reviews, it followed the Hallmark format plus it's from youtube. It's harder to find good movies there, but it is the only source some can see to watch.

I would like to find Quigley Down Under where it can be posted, but not holding my breath on that one.
Sam Elliot is another good actor. He was in an earlier posted movie (Avenger), but it was part of a youtube channel that was removed. I'll update the original movie thread if it becomes available again.

There were 2 movies with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot based on a Louis Lamour book. The Shadow Riders is not available that I could find to post. The Sacketts mini-series is available. (EDIT: see below)

I'll also be looking for Tom Selleck westerns.

Here are the links for the 1979 Sacketts mini-series that is split into 2 parts (3 hours total).

Just in case it is not clear below, you can watch the Sacketts on youtube OR archive.org (this is a first, I think).
It's the best of both options. Also, you can download it for future viewing from archive.org with the link at the bottom.
