The first movie is Forrest Gump. This 1994 drama stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, and Gary Sinise.

- The presidencies of Kennedy and Johnson, the events of Vietnam, Watergate and other historical events unfold through the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, whose only desire is to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart.

Forrest Gump is a simple man with a low I.Q. but good intentions. He is running through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His 'mama' teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, finding new friends called Dan and Bubba, he wins medals, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, starts a ping-pong craze, creates the smiley, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people and meets the president several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only think of his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran, who has messed up her life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone.

The second movie is John Wick 3. This 2019 action film continues the John Wick series starring Keneau Reeves, Halle Berry, and Ian McShane. I'll admit to not being a fan of parts of this film. It has some good moments, but I thought it might have been good to stop after the first, and definitely after the second in the series. Watch it and see if you agree. Yes, I know they are filming John Wick 4. This does have the proper english subtitles in the middle of the film. They are important and not easy to find. Save this one and Forrest Gump quickly if interested, I have no idea how long they will be available.

In this third installment of the adrenaline-fueled action franchise, skilled assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin's guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world's most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

The third movie is A Fish Called Wanda. This 1988 crime comedy stars John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Kline.

- In London, four very different people team up to commit armed robbery, then try to doublecross each other for the loot.

British gangster Georges Thomason (Tom Georgeson) and his hapless aide, Ken Pile (Sir Michael Palin), draft a pair of arrogant Americans, grifter Wanda Gershwitz (Jamie Lee Curtis) and weapons expert Otto West (Kevin Kline), for a massive diamond heist. When the job goes badly, Wanda attempts to seduce Georges' stuffy lawyer, Archie Leach (John Cleese), to find out where Georges hid the diamonds. Meanwhile, Ken repeatedly attempts to kill an elderly woman who witnessed the robbery.

The fourth movie is Heathers. This 1989 teen dark comedy stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannon Doherty. This deeply sarcastic teen comedy is a cult classic and personal favorite.

Comprised of three affluent, beautiful, and snobbish girls with the same first name, Heather Chandler's group is the most popular but feared clique in all of Westerburg High School. Despising herself for hanging out with the three socially sadistic Heathers, Veronica Sawyer joins forces with the alluring and mysterious newcomer, Jason Dean, to appease her newfound conscience, and to teach the pretty tyrants a lesson. Indeed, their scheme is foolproof, and at first, it's all fun and games until someone accidentally ends up dead. But, now, there is no turning back. What happens if Jason and Veronica's plan backfires? What happens if it doesn't?

The sixth movie is Christine. This 1983 John Carpenter film of Stephen King's thriller stars Keith Jordan, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and Harry Dean Stanton. It is a personal favorite.

- A nerdish boy buys a strange car with an evil mind of its own and his nature starts to change to reflect it.

Repeatedly singled out for his awkwardness, the unpopular and wimpy school nerd, Arnie Cunningham, finally finds solace in Christine - a once bright-red 1958 Plymouth Fury, and now a twenty one year old rusty pile of junk. Determined to restore the classic car to its original condition, Arnie will alienate himself more and more from his already few friends, as a subtle, yet remarkable transformation takes place. But, who is this cocky new Arnie that has emerged from the ashes? Does Christine, the glossy metallic temptress, have something to do with it and the seemingly endless trail of warm blood in the peaceful town of Rockbridge?

The seventh movie is Ghostbusters. This 2016 comedy is an example of why some classic films should be left alone and not subject to the SJW treatment. This movie isn't a total waste and has some funny parts, but this will never be a personal favorite like the original. Bill Murray has an interesting cameo appearance. Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Blackhat, etc.) has a very interesting role. In case anyone was curious about this film, here's your chance.

Paranormal researcher Abby Yates and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.

Interesting. Starting this morning, embedded vids don’t show on my iPad. No o/s updates recently either. Weird.

That embed worked.

And evidently that triggered something, because they’re all visible again. Beyond weird.

I've read some good stories (Four Past Midnight, Full Dark No Stars) and some good novels, but Christine is one of his best, and I look forward to seeing the film. Thanks!

You amaze me each week 1911 with great movies, great choices. Thank you very much. It does help pass the time. I missed John Wick 1 the first time through and if you ever find it again it would be so nice. Thanks again!

I stayed up WAY too late watching Runaway. Never saw it before but it was a pretty good movie. Seeing Gene Simmons (lead singer for KISS) acting, and as a bad guy was a real treat. It's a interesting movie well worth watching.

Your movies, minister of culture and enlightenment, are a godsend. It's a skating rink outside and your movie selections are absolutely PERFECT for a Saturday afternoon.
Thanks again!

edit: I'm curious, those watching John Wick 3: What did you think of it? Would you watch it again? I saw it once and that was enough. I've re-watched the first 2 and probably will again in a year or 2, but the 3rd one ended the series for me.

----------------------------------

I haven't seen Runaway in a long time. As a Tom Selleck fan (the actor and the person), I should watch it again.
Magnum PI was a staple TV show when I was younger. edit: downloading it now

I was curious about Gene Simmons being in a movie, I watched Magnum PI pretty regularly at that time too. Runaway was a surprising and pleasant display of both their acting skills. It was also a good look at how technology was used and perceived as I was a young adult. Boy how times changed!
John Wick 1 and 2 were great; the third one was ok but not as good as the other two. Downloaded it though; I won't miss an opportunity to have the best hunkered down bunkered down entertainment in the DC area :)

There was way too much unbelievable fighting. Way to matrixy as it went on. Not as good as the first two. Just good timing of a good distraction that I needed today. Would not watch again. Won't watch 4 unless it's free like this.

Good description. It would have been nice if some of the better ideas in 3 were used in John Wick 2.

If you want a distraction, watch the trailer then watch Heathers. I don't think it's being appreciated for the black comedy gold contained within a "teen" movie. It's not the nice breakfast club movie or pretty in pink... :)

I'm rewatching John Wick 3 and I have to wonder how many 'underground' people the deep state has in play just like those peeps in the movie that got called and texted when Wick's contract for termination started.

I can think of Antifa and BLM operating like this, our CIA but how many other people on the payroll, that look like bums or general people (maybe mind controlled) that are actually assassins?

I watched the Heathers when it came out and then rewatched several times. That's when I decided to watch almost everything with Christian Slater in it because he plays twisted characters like Harvey Keitel, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken.

Did you ever see the movie Very Bad Things? EXCELLENT TWISTED MOVIE!!

If you like Christian Slater as a twisted characte, what about as a straight arrow? As in “Broken Arrow”. Loved him and Travolta in that one.

Hey, 1911, there’s a suggestion for a future movie night.

Yes, I've seen Broken Arrow and he was the good guy in that, but with Very Bad Things his twistedness comes out of nowhere and just keeps getting worse.
