I found a few extra movies this week, so this is a bonus movie thread. Happy Easter!

It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like to guide future selections.
Click the "movies" tag at the top to see a list of all previous movie threads.
Click on individual movie posters to see them full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #9.

Enjoy the Show!

Note that youtube and archive.org are very busy with people watching videos.
You may have to click the start arrow several times to get a movie to play.
Usually, it'll start playing by the 3rd or 4th "start click" so don't give up.
Once started, I have not had one stop playing.

The first movie is The Da Vinci Code. This 2006 mystery thriller stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno, and Ian McKellon. This is a well done movie based on the Dan Brown novel. It's quite an adventure and a personal favorite. This is the extended version (almost 3 hours long) of the movie.

A murder inside the Louvre, and clues in Da Vinci paintings, lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand years, which could shake the foundations of Christianity.

The second movie is The Andromeda Strain. This 1971 classic sci-fi thriller is one I've often searched for. The video and audio on this are fine, but it has hard-coded spanish subtitles that can't be turned off.

- A team of top scientists work feverishly in a secret, state-of-the-art laboratory to discover what has killed the citizens of a small town and learn how this deadly contagion can be stopped.

The third movie is Lone Survivor. This 2013 war film stars Mark Wahlberg.

In 2005 Afghanistan, Navy SEALs Marcus Luttrell, Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz and Matthew "Axe" Axelson deploy on a mission of surveillance and to take out Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. Though spotted by goatherds, Luttrell and his team decide not to kill them. But one of the Afghans alerts a group of Taliban fighters to the invaders, and a terrible battle ensues, in which the SEALs find themselves hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned.

This film also has an MKV link that is larger (higher quality), BUT it will only play on media players that support .mkv files such as VLC media player (my choice). If you don't recognize .mkv format, just use the normal download link and the quality of that is still good.

The fourth movie is the original Predator. This 1987 action sci-fi classic stars Arnold Schwartzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, and Sonny Landham. The download link is a high quality version of this classic that started the Predator series.

- A team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial warrior.

A team of special force are ordered to assist the CIA on a rescue mission for potential survivors of a helicopter downed over remote South American jungle. Not long after they land, the team discovers that they have been sent in under false pretenses. This deception turns out to be the least of their worries though, when they find themselves being methodically hunted by something not of this world.

If you have trouble with the movie stuttering or pausing, select the #2 option as shown in blue in the pic below. It's lower resolution and requires less internet speed to play smoothly.

The seventh movie is Unconquered. This 1947 Cecil B. DeMille film stars Gary Cooper, Paulette Goddard, and Boris Karloff.

This film depicts the violent struggles between American colonists and Native Americans on the western frontier in the mid-18th century during the 1763 Pontiac's Rebellion, primarily around Fort Pitt (modern-day Pittsburgh). The film is characterized by DeMille's lavish style, including colorful costumes and sets, thousands of extras, violence, and sensationalism.

www.archive.org is similar to youtube, except the type and format of information available is much, much more diverse and they aren't trying to sell anything.

Internet Archive - Wikipedia

The Internet Archive is an American digital library with the stated mission of "universal access to all knowledge."[notes 2][notes 3] It provides free public access to collections of digitized materials, including websites, software applications/games, music, movies/videos, moving images, and millions of books. In addition to its archiving function, the Archive is an activist organization, advocating a free and open Internet.

The Internet Archive allows the public to upload and download digital material to its data cluster, but the bulk of its data is collected automatically by its web crawlers, which work to preserve as much of the public web as possible. Its web archive, the Wayback Machine, contains hundreds of billions of web captures.[notes 4][6] The Archive also oversees one of the world's largest book digitization projects.

There is much more info at the article in the wiki link.

In the movie "Lone Survivor" they give 3 choices. I wonder why they didn't choose option 4 which would have been to walk the 3 surprise visitors halfway back to the extraction point and then let them go. Sure, the village might have gone looking for them but without any reference of where they went or what they were doing would have given the seals time to evade. Mission was blown anyway.

How was The Da Vinci code? I enjoyed it and the 2nd one as well (Angels and Demons). There is a third, but it wasn't nearly as engaging as the first 2. The common theme between them is Tom Hanks using historic knowledge to solve mysteries and puzzles.

EDIT - I just discovered the Da Vinci Code does not contain english subtitles for the foreign parts (in french). There aren't that many, but they do add to the story. If you download the movie file, this link goes to the needed foreign-only english subtitles for this version of the film. The Da Vinci Code - 2006 - English Subtitles You would need to download the subtitle file, unzip it, and have your media player load it after loading the movie file. Sorry to make this complicated. I checked that they were speaking english but forgot to check for the foreign subtitles.

Thanks for posting, a good sci fi movie !
1911 user, as a side note, a number of years ago, when my youngest son was still in high school, Sonny Landon apparently had retired. for some reason he took up residence in a old hotel, in a town in the next county from us. My son & his buddies found out. and managed to get his phone number. One of them was pretty good at imitating Landons voice. They would call him up and say " we're all gonna die. " the boys had a lot of fun doing that. Eventually he either got an unlisted number, or switched to a cell phone. You know kids. I'm sure Landon got fed up with it. The boys still laugh about it.

1911, Right now I'm doing a "601" over these movie choices. You found the Andromeda Strain. A personal favorite-I could watch it 50 times in a row and still want to see it again. THANK YOU!

The DaVinci code, never seen it but it's on the watch list. The rest are solid movies well worth a watch.

I tell you, your movie posts are like a box of Cracker Jacks; and the prizes inside are ALWAYS the good ones.

All hail the TB2K minister of culture and enlightenment! Fantastic job 1911user!

For The Da Vinci Code, you definitely want to download it then add the foreign subtitle file like I describe in post #20. I just watched it again and it seems the "extended" version added more french speaking parts than the version I remember. If you use vlc media player, there is an option under subtitles to add a sub track.

For what it is worth, CBS said they will be showing movies on Sunday night as a kind of family night, we are all together yada yada yada. I'm not sure when it starts, since they are running NCIS Los Angeles and New Orleans now. The first two or three Indiana Jones movie, the one with Sean Connery. I remember. Can't remember what the other ones were.

I've been trying to find a clean, english-speaking, decent-resolution version for most of a year. Did you see that this has spanish subtitles (in bright yellow) and they can not be turned off? Posting this version is capitulation that I likely won't find a better version to post. I guess it is a free spanish lesson...

I noticed right away. Was afraid it was going to be Spanish audio, but I waited for the dialog. After it got underway, I barely noticed the subtitles. What a wonder trip down memory lane. I remember watching it when it first came out. As a kid, I was the thinking type, and I remember it scared the hell out me.

So many good scifis from that era. Another one I remember liking really well was The Questor Tapes. A bit cheesy filmography now, but was a very Roddenberry plot line, and thus good. Seems the mean time between good scifis has really gotten stretched out.

Thanks for going to the trouble to put these up for us. Maybe you could find one of my favorites for some time in the future, "Colossus, the Forbin Project". Think the crowd might like that one.

It's a good movie.
It's hard to find though. I did a quick look at youtube and archive.org but found nothing close. If I find it, it'll be an accident hiding behind a cryptic title, but a nice accident.
