It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. That will continue for the future.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
Click on an individual movie poster to see it full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #7.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Bridge of Spies. This 2015 Steven Spielberg cold war drama is a personal favorite starring Tom Hanks. It's a well done movie with a good view of history during the late 1950's about US and Soviet relations. I'm not sure how else to recommend it except to say that if you like Tom Hanks, watch this.

In 1957, lawyer James B. Donovan is recruited from his prestigious law firm to defend accused Soviet spy Rudolf Abel. It's an unenviable task in many respects. Donovan hasn't practiced criminal law since he was a prosecutor at the Nuremburg trials after World War II. Also, the strong anti-Communist mood at the time makes him a target of those who think Abel should just be executed. Abel is convicted but Donovan convinces the judge to sentence him to prison, rather than execute him. In 1960 U-2 spy pilot Francis Gary Powers is shot down over Soviet territory and taken prisoner. Donovan is again recruited to act as the intermediary and negotiate swapping Able for the American requiring him to travel to East Berlin crossing the newly built Berlin Wall.

The second movie is Apocalypse Now. This 1979 Vietnam war epic stars Martin Sheen, Robert Duval, and Marlon Brando. The original film was just over 2 hours long to fit theater schedules. This is the extended version that is 3 hours 16 minutes as Francis Ford Coppola intended. This is also a high quality version of this film. If interested, I suggest you watch and/or download this one soon. My hunch is it will be deleted within 1-2 months. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" :)

- A U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god.

Vietnam, 1969. Burnt out Special Forces officer Captain Willard is sent into the jungle with top-secret orders to find and kill a renegade Special Forces Colonel who has set up his own army within the jungle. As Willard descends into the jungle, he is slowly over taken by the jungle's mesmerizing powers and battles the insanity which surrounds him. His boat crew succumbs to drugs and is slowly killed off one by one. As Willard continues his journey he becomes more and more like the man he was sent to kill.

The third movie is Forbidden Planet. This 1956 sci-fi classic stars Leslie Neilson, Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis (in shockingly short skirts :), and Robbie the Robot.

When an Earth mission arrives on Altair IV, they find that Dr. Edward Morbius and his beautiful daughter Altaira are the only survivors from the original expedition that had arrived some 20 years before. Morbius isn't exactly pleased to see them and would have preferred that they not even land their spaceship. He does his best to get them on their way but Commander Abrams and his men soon face an invisible force leading them to believe that Morbius and the girl are in danger. Morbius claims to know nothing of other life on the planet but does reveal there once existed a far superior race, now extinct, that left a huge subterranean industrial and scientific complex.

The fourth movie is The Avenging Angel. This 1995 western adventure stars Tom Berenger, Charlton Heston, and James Coburn. This is a good film, but hard to find. Don't take this as perfectly accurate Mormon history, it's a movie.

If you like horses, Westerns, beautiful scenery & a story filled with intrigue, you should like this film. Co-produced by Tom Berenger he also stars in this exciting movie made for TNT television. Working along with famed Charlton Heston & James Coburn, Tom's in good company. He shoots, rides & roughs it nicely.

Miles Utley (Berenger) is trained form the time he's a youngin' to serve & protect the church's prophet, Brigham Young (Heston). And he does it with a vengeance!

The fifth movie is the original Pink Panther. This 1963 comedy stars Peter Sellers, David Niven, and Robert Wagner.

The bumbling Inspector Clouseau travels to Rome to catch a notorious jewel thief known as "The Phantom" before he conducts his most daring heist yet: a princess' priceless diamond with one slight imperfection, known as "The Pink Panther".

If you like the pink panther movies, speak up. I know where several more are located...

In the near future, a charismatic leader summons the street gangs of New York City in a bid to take it over. When he is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed and now must fight their way home while every other gang is hunting them.

Another bases loaded home run of movies this week! The warriors-great movie. Apocalypse now-GREAT movie. Forbidden planet-amazingly great sci fi movie! Bridge of spies-another great movie.
And you got the original Pink Panther. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pink Panther has some great bossa nova jazz in the soundtrack. It's also a great movie with great acting. Very sophisticated moviegoing fare for us TB2Kers.
My storage hard drive is quickly running out of space thanks to you :) Seeing the movies is super-being able to download them is the best perk ever.

You have outdone yourself again. 5 star movie selection this evening! THANK YOU.

Finally not a lurker!
I went to some art cinema that had a showing of The Warriors and the guy who played Darius was the speaker. one very interesting comment was the "Warr-iorrrsss, come out and play-ayy..." was totally spontaneous and unplanned.

Always looking for details I may have missed.
Really like how you've been digging up these classic old SF movies lately, thank you! Following Forbidden Planet, Robbie the Robot would go on to make many other guest appearances in movies and TV. I'm not old enough to have seen Forbidden Planet in the theater but I did see Warriors as a first-run. Fun times! At the time I recall that was the perception lots of folks had about New York, that it was overrun with gangs and fairly run down. Just movie deception I know but it played off the cultural impressions. Great selections as always!

Perseverance helps. I spend several hours each week searching for interesting movies then another 2 hours gathering material and assembling this thread.

I'm getting questions from several on how I find movies. I'll put together a thread on it.

I'm not seeing much interest in The Avenging Angel. It's a good flick if you like Tom Berenger and Charlton Heston. James Coburn plays his usual scoundrel self :)
