There are 7 movies this week plus Housecarl's film choices.
I recommend watching or saving these soon, preferably this weekend to be safest.

This thread on MAIN has the info about the movies and is the place for discussion about them.
However, all of the movie and download links for my movie choices are located in a separate,
members-only, thread in the MEDIA CENTER at this link:

----------->>> Link to the thread containing the actual movie links (click this) <<<-----------

This should help protect the source of the movies and keep them available longer.

Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

Movie trailers (from youtube) can be found in post #9 of this thread.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Saving Private Ryan. This 1998 WW2 movie stars Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, and Edward Burns. This is an intense war film at times.

Following the Normandy D-Day Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

The second movie is The Manchurian Candidate. Thie 1962 thriller stars Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, Angela Lansbury, Henry Silva, and James Gregory.

- A former prisoner of war is brainwashed as an unwitting assassin for an international Communist conspiracy.

Major Bennett Marco (Frank Sinatra) is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army. He served valiantly as a Captain in the Korean war and his Sergeant, Raymond Shaw (Laurence Harvey), even received the Medal of Honor. Marco has a major problem however: he has a recurring nightmare, one where two members of his squad were killed by Shaw. He's put on indefinite sick leave and visits Shaw in New York City. Shaw, for his part. has established himself well, despite the misgivings of his domineering mother, Mrs. Eleanor Shaw Iselin (Dame Angela Lansbury). She is a red-baiter, accusing anyone who disagrees with her right-wing reactionary views of being a Communist. Raymond hates her, not only for how she's treated him, but equally because of his stepfather, the ineffectual U.S. Senator John Iselin (James Gregory), who is intent on seeking higher office. When Marco learns that others in his Korean War unit have had nightmares similar to his own, he realizes that something happened to all of them in Korea, and that Raymond Shaw is the focal point.

The third movie is Black Hawk Down. This 2001 military action film stars Josh Hartnett, Ewen McGregor, Tom Sizemore, and Eric Bana. This is an intense military film at times.

- 160 elite U.S. soldiers drop into Somalia to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord and find themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily-armed Somalis.

The film takes place in 1993 when the U.S. sent special forces into Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population. Using Black Hawk helicopters to lower the soldiers onto the ground, an unexpected attack by Somalian forces brings two of the helicopters down immediately. From there, the U.S. soldiers must struggle to regain their balance while enduring heavy gunfire

The fourth movie is The Edge. This 1997 Alaskan adventure stars Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin, and Elle Macpherson. The outdoor scenic views are very nice in this film. It's also an interesting tale.

A model has her rich, much older husband come with her to a photo shoot. But when their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere, a strong mind game erupts between the clever husband and the jealous young photographer as they try to get back to civilization. They struggle to band together and survive after getting stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with a blood-thirsty Kodiak Bear hunting them down.

The fifth movie is Tremors. This 1990 creature feature classic stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Michael Gross, Reba McEntire, and Finn Carter. This was the original that started the series.

A group of people in a small peaceful town (Perfection, Nevada) defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

The sixth movie is Beethoven. This 1992 dog adventure stars a Saint Bernard, Charles Grodin, Bonnie Hunt, and Dean Jones.

- A slobbering St. Bernard becomes the center of attention for a loving family, but must contend with a dog-napping veterinarian and his henchmen.

Barely escaping from nefarious dognappers, an adorable puppy named Beethoven adopts the unsuspecting Newton family and promptly grows up into 185 pounds of romping, drooling, disaster-prone St. Bernard. Unfortunately, even after proving his canine credentials to mom and the kids, the heroic hound gets nowhere with uptight dad, George. But when a beastly veterinarian makes Beethoven the target of an unspeakable animal experiment, George becomes the only hope for saving the Newton's furriest family member.

The seventh movie is Beethoven the 2nd. This 1993 movie is part 2 in the continuing adventure of Beethoven.

- Beethoven, the St. Bernard dog, becomes a father, but his girlfriend Missy is dognapped, and his puppies are in danger of the same fate.

Beethoven is back, and this time, he's bringing the kids. It's the further adventures of the Newton family and their lovable, lumbering pal, Beethoven. In this second "symphony" of the Beethoven saga, our hero meets Missy, the lady Saint Bernard of his dreams. Unfortunately, they are soon separated by Regina, Missy's hateful owner who is using her as a bargaining chip in an ugly divorce. But love finds a way, and the result is four adorable, roly-poly puppies. The prospect of four valuable, purebred pups appeals to Regina's greed, but the Newton kids come to the rescue and bring home the cuddly canines. Now if they can just convince Dad to adopt the huge, messy bundles of joy . . . Mission accomplished. But Missy is still in Regina's evil clutches. Will Missy, Beethoven and their puppies ever be reunited? And will Regina finally get what she deserves?

Blackhawk Down is a little rough for both the wife and I. We spent time in Mogadishu Dec 92-March 93 and all the stuff in the movie took place a few months later. I did weapon sweeps with the Marines all around K circle area while I was there. The scenes look right

Normally, I wouldn't have posted Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down in the same week. Both are intense war/military films. However, I try to post the best I've found each week because it can be hard to predict how long they'll stay available. Saving Private Ryan and The Edge are at high risk IMHO of going away very soon. That source, and their fans, are getting very open with non-cryptic, popular movie names in the comments and those are searchable.

Even The Edge has some intense parts especially when the big grizzly bear is close. In spite of Alec Baldwin being involved, it's a good movie with great scenery. Tremors is a long time, personal favorite. It's too much fun to not post quickly. Beethoven is a big, sloppy dog story to provide some balance for the intensity.

Thanks, as always, for some great choices!

In the same genre as some of the disaster movies you posted recently, have you considered The Swarm from 1978? Its right up there with the others!

Thanks 1911. I watched Private Ryan. Have watched it several times, yet watched again. It always puts a tear in my eyes.

I have been honored to have known several WWII vets that survived Europe. Brave, fine men all.

Next I will watch either Blackhawk Down, or Manchurian Candidate . Thanks again !!!
