I thought about this thread after last weekend and came to 2 simple conclusions.
First, the intent of this thread is to give those interested the option to watch or save movies that I think would be of interest to TB2K.
Second, the only important feedback needed is do people watch or save movies?
That is already being answered by the number of views for the thread with the real movie links each week.
The only thing to do there is watch or save a movie...
Everything is fine unless the real movie thread views fall noticeably.
Until then, it's on with the shows...

There are 6 movies this week.
I recommend watching or saving these sooner rather than later.

This thread on MAIN has the info about the movies and is the place for discussion about them.
However, all of the movie and download links are located in a separate,
members-only, thread in the MEDIA CENTER at this link:

----------->>> Link to the thread containing the actual movie links (click this) <<<-----------

This should help protect the source of the movies and keep them available longer.

Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

Movie trailers (from youtube) can be found in post #8 of this thread.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Mad Max: Fury Road. This 2015 action adventure stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Hugh Keays-Byrne.

An apocalyptic story set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and almost everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There's Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

The second movie is Friday Night Lights. This 2004 sports drama stars Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, and Garrett Hedlund.

- Based on H.G. Bissinger's book, which profiled the economically depressed town of Odessa, Texas and their heroic high school football team, The Permian High Panthers.

Expectations are high for the 1988 football team at Permian "MOJO" High School in the blue-collar, football-crazy town of Odessa, Texas. MOJO is a traditional powerhouse in Texas high school football, and the community lets coach Gaines know in many not-so-subtle ways that nothing short of a state championship is a failure. But when the team loses its star tailback in the first game of the season, hopes seem dashed, and MOJO goes into an early tailspin. Everyone is ready to hang coach Gaines in effigy, and the team is left for dead. But miraculously, coach Gaines pulls the team together, and MOJO makes a now-unlikely run into the state playoffs.

The third movie is The Aviator. This 2004 biographical drama stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, and John Reilly.

- A biopic depicting the early years of legendary Director and aviator Howard Hughes' career from the late 1920s to the mid 1940s.

Billionaire and aviation tycoon Howard Hughes is a successful public figure: a director of big-budget Hollywood movies such as "Hell's Angels (1930)", a passionate lover of Hollywood's leading ladies Katharine Hepburn and Ava Gardner, and an aviation pioneer who helps build TWA into a major airline. But in private, Hughes remains tormented, suffering from paralyzing phobias and depression. The higher he rises, the farther has to fall.

The fourth movie is Training Day. This 2001 police drama stars Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Scott Glenn, and Tom Berenger.

- A rookie cop spends his first day as a Los Angeles narcotics officer with a rogue detective who isn't what he appears to be.

Today is Jake Hoyt's (Ethan Hawke) first day on the force. And the rookie cop's partner, the one who will be teaching him the tricks of the trade, is Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington). Harris is one of the best detectives out there, but he's also one of the most unorthodox. While at first Jake thinks he has good intentions behind his questionable ethics, one particularly hasty "assignment" puts him in a unwanted position with Harris. In just one day, Jake realizes that Alonzo may not be the man he thought he was.

The fifth movie is Nightcrawler. This 2014 thriller stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, and Bill Paxton.

NIGHTCRAWLER is a thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling - where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.

The sixth movie is War of the Worlds. This 2005 sci-fi thriller stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Tim Robbins, and Justin Chatwin.

- An updated version of H.G Wells' seminal sci-fi classic about an alien invasion threatening the future of humanity. The catastrophic nightmare is depicted through the eyes of one American family fighting for survival.

Ray Ferrier (Cruise) is a divorced dockworker and less-than-perfect father. When his ex-wife and her new husband drop off his teenage son Robbie and young daughter Rachel for a rare weekend visit, a strange and powerful lightning storm suddenly touches down. What follows is the extraordinary battle for the future of humankind through the eyes of one American family fighting to survive it in this contemporary retelling of H.G. Wells seminal classic sci-fi actioner.

If you HATE SCREAMING KIDS SHE WILL DRIVE YOU DEAF. :hof:

Seriously, she screams the ENTIRE car trip.
When I saw it in the theater, it was horrible. I suggest ear plugs, ear muffs or just fast forward.:D

Do you think people would be calm and collected during an alien invasion? :D

I kept hoping for a Martian laser shooting thing to vaporize the little brat, but no such luck. Also the movie had a little too much deus ex machina, like when family members vanish and then just show up no explanations.

All in all, 1911 User, I think the 1954 version with Gene Barry was much better. Spielberg ginned up the special effects, but the acting was subpar to put it mildly. The politics was hard left with what they did to Tim Roth for example.

Thank you yet again, 1911. I got to while away an otherwise boring and nonproductive afternoon rainstorm and power outage catching up on movies I would not otherwise have had on hand. It matters, and as always, I appreciate it.

Just finished the Aviator. I don't like how they portray Mr. Hughes but it is a great movie anyway. I have sat in the pilots seat of the Spruce Goose. It's a monster of a wooden airplane. Extremely impressive coming from that day and time.

I enjoyed Fury Road, I believe they are working on either a prequel or sequel. Training Day is a good flick. War of the Worlds was ok and have not seen the other movies.

OK just watched Nightcrawler. Crazy but I could see it happening. Also WTH happened to Jake Gyllenhaal? He was so cute in Day After Tomorrow. He's not aging well at all.

This 1934 version of Lord Edgware Dies is the earliest known surviving screen portrayal of Agatha Christie's Poirot. It stars Austin Trevor as the detective, his third time in the role - the previous two films are thought to be lost.
