There are 6 movies this week.
I recommend watching or saving these sooner rather than later.

This thread on MAIN has the info about the movies and is the place for discussion about them, as before.
However, all of the movie and download links are located in a separate,
members-only, thread in the MEDIA CENTER at this link:

----------->>> Link to the thread containing the actual movie links (click this) <<<-----------

This should help protect the source of the movies and keep them available longer.

If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like to guide future selections.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

Movie trailers (from youtube) can be found in post #8 of this thread.
Click the "movies" tag at the top of this thread to see a list of all movies posted in the past.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Kelly's Heroes. This 1970 war comedy stars Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, and Don Rickles. For anyone that noticed Heroes is spelled wrong in the title, I ran out of space.

- A group of U.S. soldiers sneaks across enemy lines to get their hands on a secret stash of Nazi treasure.

During World War II, Lieutenant Kelly (Clint Eastwood) learns of a German bank located behind enemy lines containing sixteen million dollars in gold bars. His platoon, led by Big Joe (Telly Savalas), has three days of rest and recreation coming, so, with the aid of hustler Crapgame (Don Rickles), anachronistic hippie Oddball (Donald Sutherland), three Sherman tanks, and a touch of irreverence, Kelly leads his men deep into French territory to steal the gold for themselves.

The second movie is Gran Torino. This 2008 drama stars Clint Eastwood.
This movie has subtitles in a foreign language, sorry. The video and audio are good quality.

- Disgruntled Korean War veteran Walt Kowalski sets out to reform his neighbor, Thao Lor, a Hmong teenager who tried to steal Kowalski's prized possession: a 1972 Gran Torino.

Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) is a bitter Korean War veteran who has just lost his wife. The world has changed around him as well. His once all-white neighborhood is now mostly Southeast Asian and he has a Hmong family living next door. He doesn't get along with his sons and is out of touch with his grandchildren, all of whom seem more interested in getting his house than anything else. His pride and joy, however, is his mint condition 1972 Gran Torino. When the Hmong teenager who lives next door, Thao Lor (Bee Vang), is challenged by his cousin and other local gang members to steal it, Walt almost shoots him. Gradually, however, he realizes he has more in common with his neighbors than his own family, and becomes something of a neighborhood hero when he prevents the gangbangers from forcing Thao into their car. He gradually takes Thao under his wing, teaching him a few things about life and helps getting him a job. Walt's intervention has a price, however, when the gang shoots up Thao's house and attack his sister Sue (Ahney Her). For Walt, it's time to take action, though not in a way you would expect.

The third movie is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This 1975 musical stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Patricia Quinn.

After the wedding of mutual friends, Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and his fiancée Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) get lost driving in a heavy downpour. The first house they see belongs to majordomo Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien) and his sister, housekeeper Magenta (Patricia Quinn). Brad and Janet have come on an auspicious night: the Transylvanians are there for the benefit of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a sweet transvestite. But all is not happy, as the criminologist/narrator expounds in this tuneful send-up. Based upon the smash British show, The Rocky Horror Show. This movie did little box-office business until it became THE cult hit and invented the midnight showing.

The fourth movie is When Worlds Collide. This 1951 sci-fi classic stars Richard Derr, Barbara Rush, Peter Hansen, and John Hoyt. This is a good copy of this classic.

An astronomer discovers an object that has just entered the solar system. His calculations show him it's headed straight for Earth. The only problem's convincing the rest of the world. The crisis brings out the best and worst in humanity.

The sixth movie is I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang. This 1932 crime drama is a pre-code classic. This is a good copy of the film and there is a very high quality version in mkv format.

Having returned from fighting in World War I, James Allen doesn't want to settle into a humdrum life and decides to set off to find his fortune. He travels the length and breadth of America, working as a skilled tradesman in the construction industry. When times get tough however, he finds himself living in a shelter where an acquaintance suggests they go out for a hamburger. What the friend really has in mind is to rob the diner and Allen soon finds himself working on a chain gang with a long jail sentence. Allen manages to escape however and heads to Chicago where over several years he slowly but surely works his way up the ladder to become one of the most respected construction engineers in the city. His past catches up with him and despite protestations from civic leaders and his many friends in Chicago, he finds himself again on the chain gang planning to escape.

Great sci-fi flick mixed with some social commentary.

I have always wondered why a follow-up sequel was never made.

What would the "New World" have been like?

They definitely set it up for a sequel.

I found this in the IMDB Trivia:

George Pal wanted to film the novel's sequel, "After Worlds Collide," which depicted the struggle of human survivors on the alien planet. However, the failure of his film Conquest of Space (1955), and the declining health of uncredited executive producer Burgess Meredith, damaged his relationship with Paramount, and the sequel was never made.

Red Baron the first movie When Worlds Collide is based on a book of the same title. There is a sequel to the book that brings the cold war to the new planet with Russians running around.
I thought the movie was better than the book.

There's a book, After Worlds Collide, that's a sequel. After Worlds Collide is a better story than is When Worlds Collide. You can find it on Amazon.

I read it when I was in my teens (sigh).

Just stayed up WAY too late and watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's been 30 years since I've seen it at the midnight movies (Akers Mill shopping center theaters for those Atl. locals. I've got the Marlboros, who's got the beer? Memories.....). What a treat-funny as all get out and so incredibly over the top it's hard to describe. I'd forgotten just how funny/silly that movie was. There was a lot of really good talent in that movie; Tim Curry's performance always leaves me laughing.
Thanks for a great evening laughing my butt off, it's a keeper! Oh, and it's a theater quality copy-probably better than theater since it got run thousands of times at midnight movies.
