There are 7 movies this week plus Housecarl's noire classics.
I recommend watching or saving these soon.

This thread on MAIN has the info about the movies and is the place for discussion about them.
However, all of the movie and download links for my movie choices are located in a separate,
members-only, thread in the MEDIA CENTER at this link:

---->>> Link to the thread containing the actual movie links (click this) <<<----

This should help protect the source of the movies and keep them available longer.

Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

Movie trailers (from youtube) can be found in post #9 of this thread.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Escape From New York. This 1981 John Carpenter action adventure stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Harry Dean Stanton, and Adrienne Barbeau. I've been hoping to find this one for awhile and finally did.

In the future, crime is out of control and New York City's Manhattan is a maximum security prison. Grabbing a bargaining chip right out of the air, convicts bring down the President's plane in bad old Gotham. Gruff Snake Plissken, a one-eyed lone warrior new to prison life, is coerced into bringing the President, and his cargo, out of this land of undesirables.

The second movie is Pig. This 2021 drama stars Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff, and Adam Arkin. I should point out this is not a normal film to post here. It's an emotional drama and a sad one at that. If you watch it, pay attention. That will help understand why things happened as some parts aren't obvious. This was filmed in and around Portland, Oregon.

- We don't get a lot of things to really care about.

A truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped.

The third movie is The Tomorrow War. This 2021 action adventure stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, and Betty Gilpin.

- A family man is drafted to fight in a future war where the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront the past.

The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

The fourth movie is Stripes. This 1981 comedy stars Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and John Candy.

- Two friends who are dissatisfied with their jobs decide to join the army for a bit of fun.

After losing everything he holds dear, all in the same day, the rudderless New York City slacker, John Winger, has an epiphany: since his life is already a mess, why not enlist in the army? Dreaming of exotic travels, free meals, and meeting girls, John talks his unmotivated English teacher best friend, Russell, into joining the U.S. Army; however, surviving the gruelling boot camp, and the demanding drill sergeant, Sergeant Hulka, is easier said than done. At least, two beautiful MPs, Louise and Stella, seem to like John and Russell. But, the question remains. Will John finally grow up before he sparks World War III?

The fifth movie is Maximum Overdrive. This 1986 horror comedy stars Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, and Laura Harrington. This is based on a Stephen King novel and he directed it as well.

- A group of people try to survive when machines start to come alive and become homicidal.

When a mysterious comet passes close within the Earth, machines all over the World come alive and go on homicidal rampages. A group of people in a desolate Truck Stop are held hostage by a gang of homicidal 18-wheelers. The frightened people set out to defeat the killer machines...or be killed by them.

The sixth movie is The Abyss. This 1989 adventure mystery stars Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn. This is based on a novel by Michael Chrichton.

When the crew of an underwater oil rig are enlisted to assist in the rescue of an American nuclear submarine at the height of the Cold War, they discover a strange and mysterious force living in the deep and their rescue mission becomes an adventure into the wondrous and the unknown.

The seventh movie is Alien. This 1979 sci-fi horror movie started the Alien franchise. It stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, and John Hurt.

In the distant future, the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo are on their way home when they pick up a distress call from a distant moon. The crew are under obligation to investigate and the spaceship descends on the moon afterwards. After a rough landing, three crew members leave the spaceship to explore the area on the moon. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a distress call. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew realizes that they are not alone on the spaceship and they must deal with the consequences.

Kurt Russell is Snake Pliskin (sp?) Escape from NY :popcorn1:

two thumbs up

IIRC Donald Pleasence (who has a minor role as President), gets off near the end where he unloads what looks like a 9mm submachine gun into one of the bad guys. It's good to be the King

These are Great! Escape is always worth another viewing. Never seen Stripes, so that's a find. Abyss and Alien are both fantastic.

Let's Go Brandon!
Another bang-up slate, 1911!

Starting to run out of intermission fodder. At least, not without repeating myself. There are plenty of Warner Brothers shorts out there but I already did one set.

Well, no repeating myself just yet! How about almost every Mighty Mouse short ever?

(edit: How about that? The playlist actually includes episodes of the 1980s remake, "The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse"!)

Ok, I watched Pig. Holy Crap. Nick Cage should get an Oscar for it. Holy Crap.
He definitely showed some serious acting skills. I've seen it once and will watch it again soon.
I suspect that I missed some of the very subtle aspects the first time.
