There are 7 movies this week (plus read the full thread for several other classic movies added by Housecarl).
I recommend watching or saving these sooner rather than later.

This thread on MAIN has the info about the movies and is the place for discussion about them.
However, all of the movie and download links for my movie choices are located in a separate,
members-only, thread in the MEDIA CENTER at this link:

----------->>> Link to the thread containing the actual movie links (click this) <<<-----------

This should help protect the source of the movies and keep them available longer.

Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

Movie trailers (from youtube) can be found in post #9 of this thread.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is Collateral. This 2004 Michael Mann crime thriller stars Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Jada Smith, and Mark Ruffalo. There is a famous close-quarters shooting scene from this movie.

- A cab driver finds himself the hostage of an engaging contract killer as he makes his rounds from hit to hit during one night in Los Angeles.

Max Durocher is a night-shift cab driver in Los Angeles. He's planning a limo company called Island Limos, but has been a cab driver for twelve years. One night, he picks up a passenger named Vincent who seems like another ordinary passenger. But when he drops Vincent off at his location and waits for him as asked, a body falls on his cab, and it becomes clear that Vincent is actually a hitman, and he's got more stops to make.

The second movie is Earthquake. This 1974 disaster film stars Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, and Lorne Green. This is a good copy of this disaster classic.

Various interconnected people struggle to survive when an earthquake of unimaginable magnitude hits Los Angeles, California.

The third movie is Catch Me If You Can. This 2002 crime biography stars Tom Hanks, Leonardo Di Caprio, Christopher Walken, and Martin Sheen.

A true story about Frank Abagnale Jr. who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars worth of checks as a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and legal prosecutor. An FBI agent makes it his mission to put him behind bars. But Frank not only eludes capture, he revels in the pursuit.

The fourth movie is Millennium. This 1989 science fiction thriller stars Kris Kristofferson, Cheryl Lladd, and Daniel J. Travanti. This is an interesting time travel movie.

An NTSB investigator seeking the cause of an airline disaster meets a woman from 1000 years in the future. She replaces the people from airplanes before they crash with corpses with the same features. She is part of an organization of time travellers from a future Earth irreparably polluted who seek to rejuvenate mankind from those about to perish in the past.

The sixth movie is JoJo Rabbit. This 2019 dramatic dark war comedy stars Roman Davis, Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie, and Sam Rockwell. This is an experimental movie. I've watched the movie and I'm still not sure exactly how to classify it. Anti-war satire mixed with very serious moments would be a start though. Three seperate TB members have mentioned the movie and I had a link so here it is. I warned you it was somewhat unusual so no complaints :) It is a good copy of the film though.

A World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy named Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.

The seventh movie is Serpico. This 1973 crime biography stars Al Pacino, John Randolph, Jack Kehoe, and Bill McGuire.

- An honest New York cop named Frank Serpico blows the whistle on rampant corruption in the force only to have his comrades turn against him.

Biopic of the New York City detective whose anti-corruption efforts in the 1960s and early 1970s led to the creation of the Knapp Commission and the uncovering of widespread corruption of police officials at all levels. All of his life, Frank Serpico had wanted to be a policeman. He learns at an early stage in his career however that even the cop on the beat is somewhat corrupt accepting free meals and the like. As he advances in his career he finds that corruption is rampant, particularly in the Plainclothes Division, where they collect more in graft that they do in salary. His refusal to take any money puts him in bad stead with his colleagues to the point that his life may be in danger.

Looks good, 1911user! :applaud:

I don't think we have any of these. I remember reading, then watching Serpico way back in the day, and Earthquake is the OG of disaster movies in my opinion. Saw The In-Laws when it came out and want to see it again. Have wanted to see Catch Me If You Can because I've read up on the guy and want to see how they do the movie about him. Always enjoy crime thrillers, so Collateral sounds good and hubby is a huge time travel science fiction fan. I'm game to check out Jo Jo Rabbit, too.

Our household always looks forward to what you've picked out each week! Thanks again!

I've watched clips of JoJo and don't know what to make of it either. Thanks for the opportunity to see it! I remember seeing Serpico in the theater way back when, another winner. And I gotta see Earthquake. This is a great selection!

Thank you! I was reluctant to watch Jojo Rabbit when my son recommended it but it’s now one of my favorites.

Billy bob the ex 5 year old televangelist, does the crazed ng perfectly. Bet they didn't get any defense department help after they showed the national guard soldier as a rapist and murderer. :sh1a:
I don't think I saw either Earthquake or Towering Inferno in theaters.
I was in Baumholder, Germany US ARMY. I might have seen them in the px theater, which was built like a gym. :D

LOL!

Jojo Rabbit is a masterpiece of Dark Satire.

I love the soundtrack.

Here is David Bowie singing his classic tune "Heroes" (Helden) in German.

Thank you for all you do 1911. I'll add as many as I can to the library. Except perhaps Serpico. I just don't like much about the 70s, films included. :: shrug :: just a personal idiosynchrowhatchamacallsit. Imagine Millennium will be this weeks first choice, but time will tell.
Enjoy!

Thank you house, Look fwd to sleeping thru em all.

You know film noir is my first love, but I'm thinking one w/ Micky Rooney might be a hard sell? I always feel vaguely sad when watching him. Down n out drunks n maybe dead kids is too much like art imitating life, but I <3 It happened one night. Startin' to enjoy the westerns n war movies as well. In the mood for a va-ca, hoping Timbuktu will get me far away...

This might be a spoiler if you've never seen the movie.

Briefcase scene from Collateral. 2 minutes

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYu0XcwNESw

I am not a Tom Cruise fan at all. His Scientology stuff is just plain creepy. He has crazy eyes.

Regardless, whoever crafted that movie scene knew exactly how to perform a "Mozambique Drill".

It's essentially a "failure to stop" drill that expands on the classic "double tap". In this case, it's two down and one up.

It's a Michael Mann film. He gets the gun details correct.
He was also involved in Miami Vice, Heat, Blackhat, and others.
He's known to be a fan of the 1911 pistol.
