It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
IMDB/Amazon has made the movie posters hard, but I have them anyway. :)
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
The movie trailers are located in post #11.

Enjoy the Show!

The fifth movie is Steel Magnolias. This 1989 dramatic comedy stars Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Julie Roberts, Tom Skerritt, Sam Sheppard, and Dylan McDermott. This has foreign subtitles, but I'm not sure of the language. They seem less intrusive than many subtitles.

A young beautician, newly arrived in a small Louisiana town, finds work at the local salon, where a small group of women share a close bond of friendship, and welcome her into the fold.

Oh, I loved Dragonheart. A con artist dragon, combined with an amoral opportunist knight, a vile king, and a hot peasant babe. Sean's voice over is HYSTERICAL AT TIMES. Hint: make sure the lake is deep enough. :lkick:
One of the few movies you can sit down with your grandkids, or other kids and watch.

Saw that movie three times when it premiered.

I was just 12 years old and was totally gobsmacked by it.

My buddy's Dad had a second job as a maintenance man at a mall on the weekends. He let me, his son and another buddy go with him, to work. on a Saturday or Sunday.

I carefully hoarded my meager allowance during the week so I could catch a movie or two, grab a hot dog, and prowl the mall for eight hours. I even had the good fortune to hang with some chicks at my rather tender young age. Win!

"Thunderball" was riding the crest of the massive spy-thriller craze sweeping the nation.

It was a stunning movie for an impressionable yute.

I've got Verizon ellipsis "unlimited" limited to 15 G and then down to 600 kps? I always run out two weeks or so. The system is so corrupt. :sh2:UNLIMITED MEANS NOT LIMITED.

Thanks, enjoyed John Wick 2.
I have not been able to find the original John Wick, it's the best of the series IMHO.

I accidentally found this one a few days ago and decided to post it before it disappears.

John Wick 3 copies are out there, but most aren't spoken english and none get the needed foreign subtitles correct.
Even though I'm not a fan of the 3rd one, I'll post it if I find a complete version in english with english subs when needed.

My favorite is Steel Magnolias.

But I am biased.

Steel Magnolias was not just filmed in my college alma mater’s town of Natchitoches, Louisiana - but the movie is actually a true story - the story of a very good friend of mine, Margaret Harling and her daughter Susan. Margaret really did give her daughter a kidney, hoping to save her life after her pregnancy and her diabetes damaged her own. Margaret’s son Bobby wrote the movie screenplay as a way of trying to work through his grief after Susan died of kidney failure, and also so her little son would have something to remember his mother by.

I never met Bobby - he was off in New Orleans getting a law degree from Tulane that he never used during the years Margaret mentored me - but I met Susan once when she and her mother came to hear me play my guitar at the NSU Spring Coffee House. She was home for spring break at the time.

Margaret finally died a few years back, and I understand her funeral was huge. I wasn’t able to go (my wife was battling cancer at the time, and she needed me) but Mutual friends did go, and they say just about everybody in Natchitoches turned out to pay their respects.

Margaret Harling touched a lot of young people’s lives, not just my own.

And yes, she really was as great as the movie makes her (in the form of the character M’Lynn) out to be.

I think I liked the first one better, but that’s just me. I’ve enjoyed your offerings so much that Netflix is asking me “where did you go?”.

A spectacular historical epic set in 1885... Commanded by a determined religious leader called 'The Mahdi' (Laurence Olivier), 80,000 fierce Sudanese warriors massacre 8,000 untrained, British-led Egyptian troops in the desert, 100 miles beyond Khartoum. British Prime Minister Gladstone (Sir Ralph Richardson) learns of the slaughter and that The Mahdi is determined to claim the great city of Khartoum to prove his divine mission and power. General Charles 'Chinese' Gordon (Charlton Heston) is persuaded to try to make peace. He must also find a way to evacuate the Egyptian army defending Khartoum and protect its inhabitants. Directed by Basil Dearden. The stunning action sequences were directed by Yakima Canutt.

The Street with No Name - 1948 film noir directed by William Keighley

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zR97UidFQ2M

The Street with No Name is a 1948 film noir directed by William Keighley. A follow-up to The House on 92nd Street (1945), it tells the story of an undercover FBI agent, Gene Cordell (Mark Stevens), who infiltrates a deadly crime gang. Cordell's superior, FBI Inspector George A. Briggs (Lloyd Nolan), also appears in The House on 92nd Street. The movie, shot in a semidocumentary style, takes place in the Skid Row section of fictional (actually Los Angeles) "Center City."
