It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

The movie trailers are located in post #9.

Enjoy the Show!

The second movie is Purgatory. This 1999 film stars Sam Shepard, Eric Roberts, Randy Quaid, and Peter Stormare. This is a good, interesting western mystery. This was made for TNT TV.

The Old West meets the Twilight Zone as a band of desperadoes led by Blackjack Britton, on the run after a failed robbery, ride into the town of Refuge. It is immediately noticeable that something is different as the town marshal doesn't carry a gun and the gang is offered free room, food, and drink but are cautioned not to swear. Slowly, the youngest member of the gang realizes that most of the townspeople are Wild Bill Hickok, Doc Holiday, and other dead gun-fighters that he has read about in his dime novels. He also meets a young woman, whom he learns was hung, that he falls in love with. This pits him and the now non-violent gun-fighters against the gang who decide that they can destroy the whole town. However they learn that there may be greater powers involved than their own

The third movie The Mist. This 2007 horror/sci-fi thriller is based on a Steven King novel of the same name. This a rated R film.

- A freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.

A violent storm hits a town in Maine, then an approaching cloud of mist appears the next morning. As the mist quickly envelops the area, a group of people get trapped in a local grocery store. The people soon discover that within the mist lives numerous species of horrific, unworldly creatures that entered through an inter-dimensional rift, possibly caused by a project on a nearby military base. As the world around them turns into a literal Hell-on-earth, the horrified citizens try desperately to survive this apocalyptic disaster.

The sixth movie is Metropolis. This 1927 German masterpiece from the silent film era is the 75th anniversary restored version. This is available on youtube and archive.org.

In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.

Sometime in the future, the city of Metropolis is home to a Utopian society where its wealthy residents live a carefree life. One of those is Freder Fredersen. One day, he spots a beautiful woman with a group of children, she and the children quickly disappear. Trying to follow her, he is horrified to find an underground world of workers who apparently run the machinery that keeps the Utopian world above ground functioning. One of the few people above ground who knows about the world below is Freder's father, John Fredersen, who is the founder and master of Metropolis. Freder learns that the woman is called Maria, who espouses the need to join the "hands" - the workers - to the "head" - those in power above - by a mediator who will act as the "heart". Freder wants to help the plight of the workers in their struggle for a better life. But when John learns of what Maria is advocating and that Freder has joined their cause, with the assistance of an old colleague. an inventor called Rotwang, who turns out to be But their nemesis goes to works towards quashing a proposed uprising, with Maria at the centre of their plan. John, unaware that Rotwang has his own agenda., makes plans that include shutting down the machines, with the prospect of unleashing total anarchy both above and below ground.

The Mist! A fine example of good-quality King movie, but easily the single most depressing ending a King movie has ever brought to bear.

It does, however, make a fine object lesson against suicide, though I admit that those were pretty unique circumstances.

I saw this one when it came out. Didn't know who Donnie Wahlberg (Billy The Kid in the movie) was back then.
Thanks for taking the time to search out and bring us these great movies.

Man, what a really NEAT selection tonight. The Homecoming was a really nice movie-and family friendly too! Purgatory I've not seen but downloading it now. Metropolis is probably one of the greatest sci fi movies ever made! The rest look good too, every one of these is downloading to my laptop tonight!

Thanks again, minister of culture and enlightenment!

I watched the mist late last night. I'd seen it years ago but had forgotten about it. It is a movie that puts a group of people under high stress in a confined environment then watches as everything falls apart. For anyone who has seen it, miss Jim Jones should have received one of the few bullets early on. The movie was manipulative and the ending, wow, the stupidity.

Getting rid of Mother Carmody before she could turn half the store against the other half would probably have been a good plan, though you'd really have to rationalize your murder afterward. Easiest excuse would probably be "Yeah, but I stopped the pretty-much-inevitable bloodbath she WOULD have started."

And I don't think the ending was so much stupid as it was sad. He really had no way of knowing that all they needed was to play a round or two of 20 Questions and they would have been saved anyway.

They had made it away from the immediate threat (the group of religious zealots that had formed), then suddenly they all decide it is suicide time? That's manipulation even if it follows the book. I have not read the book though.
