This is a theme weekend but Perilous Journeys would not fit in the title.

All will struggle, some will make it home.

It's movie time on TB2K. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like to guide future selections.
Click the "movies" tag at the top to see a list of all previous movie threads.
Click on individual movie posters to see them full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #10.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is 1917. This 2019 war movie is set in WW1 Europe. If interested, download this one quickly.

April 1917, the Western Front. Two British soldiers are sent to deliver an urgent message to an isolated regiment. If the message is not received in time the regiment will walk into a trap and be massacred. To get to the regiment, they will need to cross through enemy territory. Time is of the essence and the journey will be fraught with danger.

The second movie is The Road. This 2009 post apocalyptic film stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. This is based on the Cormac McCarthy novel.

- In a dangerous world, an ailing father defends his son as they slowly travel to the sea.

A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don't know what awaits them there.

The fourth movie is No Escape. This 2015 film stars Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnan.

A couple and their two daughters relocate to Asia, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a dangerous coup. Learning that foreigners are being murdered on the spot, they make a desperate decision to escape the violence and try to seek refuge at the American Embassy, all while trying to avoid detection by the merciless rebels.
I do not recommend watching this if you've lived in foreign countries under a coup. The movie was down right traumatizing. I understand, however that lying on the floor to avoid bullets can be a real bonding experience. Nothing says "safety" like a tank at the end of your block.
NO ESCAPE......

They actually uploaded 6 different versions of this movie. There is low (360), medium (720), and high (1080) resolution, as well a choice of EN (English) or ES (Spanish). Unless you have a fast internet connection, I would click EN-360. If you have a fast internet, try EN-720 or even EN-1080.

The seventh movie is Stalker. This 1979 Tarkovsky (Russian) classic is a mystical, mystery movie about a special, heavily-guarded, Chernobyl-like place. The movie is in Russian with English subtitles and hard to find at this quality level. Download ASAP if interested.

In a small, unnamed country there is an area called the Zone. It is apparently inhabited by aliens and contains the Room, where in it is believed wishes are granted. The government has declared The Zone a no-go area and have sealed off the area with barbed wire and border guards. However, this has not stopped people from attempting to enter the Zone. We follow one such party, made up of a writer, who wants to use the experience as inspiration for his writing, and a professor, who wants to research the Zone for scientific purposes. Their guide is a man to whom the Zone is everything, the Stalker

The eighth movie is Nomads. This 1986 mystery thriller stars Pierce Brosnan, Leslie-Anne Down, and Anna Morticelli.
An Irishman playing a Frenchman! You'll love the accent :). This movie takes some thought, and maybe a second viewing, to completely understand what is happening. Like everything in this list, it's recommended.

A French anthropologist specializing in nomadic groups moves to Los Angeles with his wife. He starts following a group of sinister street punks who seem to live and move around in a black van. But they aren't what they seem.

WOW. No other words to say it.

1917 AND STALKER?????????? on the same bill?

Stalker is the pinnacle of Soviet sci fi cinema, Andrei Tarkovsky directed this AND Solaris. A true thinking man's sci fi movie, with heart.
I've seen it one time many years ago. It is a FANTASTIC sci fi movie. Set in the Soviet style of Sci Fi (think Arthur Clarke and Ray Bradbury making a movie with input from God, a Buddist monk and a Catholic priest. The depth of the movie is astounding!) Happy dance for finding this one!

Been wanting to see 1917-the trailers looked really good on this one. The Road looks enticing, and where in the devil did you find Emperor of the North?? Haven't seen that one in many years; that is one good movie!

The rest are ones I haven't seen but now have an opportunity to.

Who needs cable or network TV? We have the TB2K minister of culture and enlightenment providing truly epic entertainment!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks 1911, a few of these I've missed and look forward to watching. Just re-watched Castaway a couple months ago, still good. But I don't think I can yet handle The Road. You picked some winners, appreciate this thread!

Guilt trip about what, exactly?

To be honest, I'm kind of wondering if you aren't confusing 1917 with some other movie, because there's pretty much zero racial tone to the movie other than a brief scene with some historically-accurate British and French colonial soldiers. And I really had to rack my brain to remember that scene because the "Night Window" scene is not long after and pretty much drives every other part of the movie from your head.

Sweet. District 9 is one of my all time favorites.
I discovered District 9 was missing the alien subtitles, so I just replaced it with 28 Days Later. This has been an eventful evening with film issues. Fortunately, I had 3-4 that were almost ready to post. I hope there are no issues with 28 Days Later. My last sub option is Bird Box (2018) and it isn't a very good movie for me. I doubt it'll be posted. If anyone wants a link for it, ask.

If you wanted to watch District 9 knowing there are spanish subtitles, but no alien subtitles, here is the link for it.

The 2015 movie "Colonia" with Emma Watson is similar and also very nerve-wracking. I recommend it.

I looked for Colonia on youtube and archive.org, no luck. I'll keep searching, it looks interesting.

Also, bump for people who expect the weekend movie thread to go up about this time, instead of a night early.

Alatriste ~Full Movie (English subtitles)
Run time 2:25:02
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX-y87nmZnc&has_verified=1
Subtitles File: YouTube

Alatriste is a 2006 Spanish epic historical fiction war film directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes, based on the main character of a series of novels written by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, The Adventures of Captain Alatriste (Las aventuras del Capitán Alatriste).
The story takes place during the 17th century in the Spanish Empire. Diego Alatriste is a soldier in the service of King Philip IV of Spain, during the Eighty Years' War. The story begins in the Netherlands, where the tercio of Diego Alatriste fights against the Dutch during the Dutch Revolt. Lope Balboa (father of Íñigo and friend of the captain) is killed here. Diego decides to return to Madrid where he receives the young Íñigo Balboa in his care.

He is hired, along with a Sicilian assassin named Gualtiero Malatesta, to kill the Prince of Wales (future King Charles I of England) and his companion, the Duke of Buckingham. The job is contracted by Emilio Bocanegra and Luis de Alquézar (uncle of Íñigo's love interest, Angélica de Alquézar). Alatriste finally returns to the Netherlands in 1624 (although the movie says it's 1625) and participates in the final battles leading to Breda's surrender. After the return to Spain, Íñigo wants to elope with Angélica, but she gets cold feet at the last moment. Alatriste has a romance with actress María de Castro. Because she was disappointed that she failed to marry him, she became the lover of Philip IV. Alatriste ends up crossing swords with Guadalmedina, a friend of the king. In the end, the object of their attention falls ill with syphilis. The duel with his friend Martín Saldaña and the punishment of Íñigo in the galleys are part of the film's spectacular ending.

The last scenes are at the Battle of Rocroi (May 1643), described in the last book of The Adventures of Captain Alatriste saga. During the battle, Abel Moreno Gómez's "La Madrugá" is playing as the defeated army's march and this is where it is assumed that the old Captain Diego Alatriste dies.

The plot of the film has elements from each of the five books published up to the premiere, and it maintains the same storyline for the main characters. It includes excerpts from the future books of the saga.
