The first movie is Spencer's Mountain. This 1963 family film stars Henry Fonda, Maureen O' Hara, and James MacAurthur.

This film is based on a book written in 1961 by Earl Hamner Jr. about his experiences growing in the Blue Ridge mountains during the Depression. 10 years later, he wrote another book expanding on his childhood experiences. That book was The Homecoming: A Christmas Story. The movie based on it was posted last week. It was the basis for the Walton's TV series that started a year later and went for 9 seasons. This film takes place in Wyoming, not Virginia, where the Walton's is based. Both were actually filmed in Wyoming though.

The second movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This 1989 comedy stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Juliette Lewis.

It's Christmas time and the Griswolds are preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things never run smoothly for Clark, his wife Ellen and their two kids. Clark's continual bad luck is worsened by his obnoxious family guests, but he manages to keep going.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

This one was recorded from TV, with commercials, but was the only copy I could find. If you find a better version, post it.

I remember Spencer's Mountain fondly. I shall test my memory, but my recollection is an older guy on the bus asking James McArthur "Going far son?" and James' character says "Yes sir, right far". I'll be interested in seeing if that is correct, because I haven't seen the film since it was released some 57 years ago.

Now more than ever, we need a bit of diversion and down-time.

I would encourage everyone to have a supply of movies like this for when times get really tough.

Thanks for posting these movies! :popcorn3:

Holy cow. I zipped to the end of Spencer's Mountain and it was what I remembered. James said "right far". Why the heck was that stuck so firm in my head for 57 years? Maybe because I knew I was going right far too. Huh.

I keep waiting for the Charlie Brown Christmas to be banned for "Hate Speech".

Thanks for the post so I could save it!

Thanks for posting these links 1911User!

Does anyone have a link for A Christmas Story with Darren McGavin? I can't seem to find that one online.

Bump for Christmas Eve!

1911 User, you have every single movie that in our home, literally MAKES Christmas for us. As a kid we rarely got gift, mainly a good meal and an apple or an orange. But we got to watch all the animated TV Christmas specials you have on here to download. To us growing up these were Christmas gifts. Thought we weren't going to get a chance to see them this year.
You made an older but still tousel haired big eared boy smile a big smile tonight. Wife is at Christmas services at church, I'm at home dealing with an arthritis flareup. When we settle down for the night, I'm going to surprise her with the wonderful! gifts you provided and we'll watch them in bed on the laptop. Your movie will absolutely make her day-they have mine for sure!

God Bless You minister of culture and enlightenment! Merry Christmas
