My cynical self sees this as an opportunity for continued involvement.

"We need to help the groups resisting the taliban."

"Let's send them a bunch of military gear and maybe some advisors."

This was going to happen sooner or later, Afghanistan is still a highly tribal “country” that at best MIGHT function as a loose confederation.

We will again see the rise of the warlords who in turn will be tribally based. It’s not inconceivable that in the largest cities you might see some more familiar resistance type organizations that are based on other than tribal lines.

Once a couple of warlords rise, that’s where you can funnel some aid if there’s any benefit to the US.

Big if there.

Yup. Of course such thoughts wouldn't be limited to the US. India and Iran both come to mind. Talk about conflict making strange bedmates.....

A-stan will go back to tribal warfare. If anyone thinks they're going to form a cohesive, centrally run country, like a normal state, they are badly mistaken. Remember, they wipe with one hand, eff goats with their, you know, and eat w/ the other hand. 7th century here they come!

Soon, they will be sending out video's of civies on their knees, hands tied behind, all lined up, while they methodically decapitate them, men, women, children, while they scream " allah akbar, special thanks to Joe Byden "

Considering the excerpts from the WSJ on recently reported actions by the Taliban by Hannity on his show just now we aren't far from that.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear next of the DNC Congressional "majority" fracturing over this mess the worse it gets.

Consider that a certain number (even if small) of those caught behind the line are Christians...

Christian family in Afghanistan appeals to pope to help them flee persecution

The father of an Afghan Christian family was arrested six days ago, after neighbors flagged them to the Taliban. Now the family is on the run.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — Alì Ehsani, 32, knows what life can be like for Christians under the Taliban regime. Born in Kabul in 1989, he and his brother fled when he was 8 after the murder of his parents by the Islamic extremists.

“I know firsthand how difficult it is to be Christians in that country,” Ehsani told Religion News Service on Monday (Aug. 16). “I lived through the horror, the terror of these Taliban.”

Ehsani made it to Rome in 2003 after a five-year journey that he detailed in two books, “Tonight We Watch the Stars” and “The Kids Have Big Dreams.” In 2015, he earned a law degree from a university in Rome.
