Taking Orders/Payment Now for January TB2K Mountain House Group Buy

Happy new year all.

We're now opening up this next Mountain House 18-can kit group buy (click the "18-can kit" link to see the kit listed in my store and see its contents--but DO NOT purchase the kit thru the store if you want the special price). All the foods needed are back in stock at Mountain House, so there should be no delays in getting our orders processed.

I want to be somewhat flexible in when we'll close this offer and place the order to allow for folks who are interested to get in on it.

Initial estimate would be that we will try to close the order mid-January. That means I'll take delivery of the kit components from Mountain House by the end of the month. We will sort/assemble/label and ship within 48 hours and ship Fed-ex or UPS Ground in most cases. So I would expect folks to have their kits in hand by around Feb. 7, if all goes according to plan.

To take part in this buy ...

1. Email (jcrefuge@safecastle.net) or PM me with notice that you are in and for how many kits.

2. For orders outside the continental U.S. contact me for additional shipping charges. (Sorry, customs regs preclude us from shipping outside the U.S.)

For orders shipped within the continental US:

Price for each of the 18-can kits: $348 (plus $41 flat-rate shipping, shipped UPS or Fedex ground or USPS parcel post).

Payment must be received by the time the order is placed.

a. Total price due per kit, payable by cashiers check or money order: $389 Make the check/MO out to "Safecastle LLC."

Mail to:
Safecastle LLC
PO Box 623
Prior lake, MN 55372

b. To pay by Paypal, add $5 to the total per kit. Send $394, using my email address for the Paypal payment: jcrefuge@safecastle.net

3. Please be sure to provide your mailing address and your phone number. The shipping companies, Fedex especially, like to have your phone number in case of any delivery issues.

It is helpful, though not necessary, if you could be sure to provide your TB2K user name with your order for communication purposes. Otherwise, your email address will suffice.

As always, part of the modest profit will go to TB2K.

Here is a link to the nutrition page in my store. Scroll down to the applicable #10 can listings near the bottom of the page:

This food is all made within the last month or two at this point. All available stocks at Mountain House were depleted in the last quarter of 2005 by the hurricane relief demands and by the overwhelming demand by the public at large throughout the country.

An amazing number of people suddenly woke up to live and learn from the Katrina educational experience ... realizing that we are all on our own and cannot depend on any governmental group to pluck us immediately out of a catastrophic event.

Money Order or Cashiers Check?

This group buy order will be placed in about a week, so if you are planning on sending a cashiers check or money order for a kit, please do so now to be sure it arrives in time to be included in this buy. And please let me know that you are sending it.

Good response on this buy, folks. We'll wrap in a few days. (I expect to be posting the ScramKit ChowHaul buy in the next 24 hours or so and then quickly move on to the eagerly anticipated SWATSCOPE buy next ... perhaps next week).

What kind of boxes will the stuff be shipped in? I know I wouldn't want everyone on my street to see big boxes calling out "Come over to this house in an emergency!" :)

Thanks!

They normally ship in clearly marked "Mountain House" boxes, but rarely do folks know what that is. PM me if you're interested and we can discuss options.

how long will the contents last after its been opened?

The cans come with plastic lids to "reseal" the cans when you open them. However, Mountain House recommends that you then use that food up within about two weeks.

That established, I've heard others say that they use their own vacuum sealing equipment to portion out the food and thus keep the food good for much longer. Not really sure how effective that approach can be.

JCRefuge, I sent an order via Paypal. As the time nears, is there a chance of finding out delivery date? If you're sending UPS they can be tracked via the web, and I think so can FedEX.

Thanks for taking the time to provide this offer. It's appreciated, and MH is good stuff, no doubt about it.

Thanks Nanook. We spoke regarding the tracking info.

For the benefit of everyone else, I am looking to wrap up this buy this week--probably mid-week. Am estimating product delivery to buyers around Feb. 1 at this point.

is there any way for people not familiar with your foods to buy or try samples before placing a large order?

I don't stock single cans or pouches--or even cases if I can help it. My means for selling most of the Mountain House product is either by having Mountain House dropship orders to buyers for me or to have bulk orders in place before I order, then take delivery, re-sort the cases as necessary and send it out immediately at that point.

The good news is that Mountain House does sell directly to consumers online any quantity and variety of single pouch entrees you're interested in. It probably won't be the best price you can find (you can also search for local dealers on their site--mostly outdoors/camping types of stores, which may or may not be better), but if you're just looking to taste a food or two, it won't make much difference.
