GUNS/RLTD Sword??

I have many edged "tools" available, for various different situations: an Ontario GI machete, a United Cutlery M48 machete, a Cold Steel GI Tanto, a super-cheapy RTEK 8" knife with a cord handle, and several Leatherman multi-tools. As noted, these only "run out of ammo" when I can't raise my arm anymore.

I own two antiques that my grandparents brought back from Indonesia. The blades are wavy, like ric-rac. Was always told that they were poison tipped. Just family lore? Don't know.

No blades or baseball bats for me, though I respect the potential. I’ve checked in with the Lord, and He indicated I’m good dying with an AK or a Glock or a Mossberg in my hands. I’ll leave it up to His Providence as to which one the circumstances will bring forth.

I ran across this a while back and finally decided to get one. Not happening - sold out all over the ZUSA, no one knows when more will be coming in from Chyna.

Did find a Canadian dealer with half a dozen in stock and ordered one. Gotta be orc-ready ...
It's purty. But I have a katana. Mounted on my bedroom wall.

Always looking for details I may have missed.
I like it and will consider ordering one. Don’t always want to alert the neighborhood while taking care of business.

As in all things, Diversification of assets is an asset. I <3 me some blades, and if my machete work looks a lil fancy o' foot, well, who're the goats gonna tell?

Category: Moro Blades - Southern Philippines
Tags: bolo, Kalis, keris, Kris, Kris sword
Description
Blade Length:20″
Overall Length: 25.50″

Kris Sword #4 – Notice each Kris has a different look. Some have more waves than the other so for now we will call it “Kris #4” The Kris has a double edge to double the pain, and do a dual job that single edge sword can’t do.

The Kris is the most common Moro sword found in Sulu & Mindanao. The Kris sword is extensively used by the Tausug, Samal and Yakan warriors. The waves of each Kris denotes a flame or a serpent (depending on who has made it and for what purpose). The Kris with the most wave will always be carried by someone with the authority and believed to give the deepest thrust and could even go through the enemy’s body. The waves are simply variations that tells a stranger where they came from, what region, or land, or their position in the community. The Kris has a rather vague history with folklore giving many varying accounts where some also believe that it is symbolic of the stingray’s tail. Some believe it’s a design of the mythical serpent or dragon and some believe it has a distinct religious association. There are so many reasons why the blade of a Kris is shaped like a crawling serpent. Whatever the reasons are, these type of swords can deliver the most damage when used with both slash and thrust movements. Hacking works well with this sword due to it’s unique design. The unique design of the Kris distributes the weight perfectly for hacking anything it hits in half! There are many versions of the Kris and each version has names that are not far from it’s original name, like Kalis, Keris, etc.

Soon, we will have the complete collection of Kris in it’s different forms, from the lesser waves to the most waves. The straight Kris, known as the “execution Kris”, used primarily for the purpose of public execution of criminals.

Yeah, I was gonna post that :D

Story I heard was it was an out-take - was supposed to be a long choreographed fight scene, but Harry had the Sahara Squirts and had to go, so he ad libbed. The director liked it and used it.

I DO like yer Gladius, even if ya DID have to import it. Hope your sheath gets here WITH the blade.

And yeah, if you do NOT have a Positive Advantage of 5 or 6, a suppressed firearm is better for YOUR safety.
(actually knew a rock climber with a Positive Advantage of 10 or 11 [depended on theday] He was a fricken SPIDER!)

For years I have wondered if I could make a survival bushcraft crossbow using just a knife and the hedges around my field; with the release of the new Tod Cutler bushcraft knives it seemed like the perfect moment to find out. The film shows you exactly how I made this (rather ugly) crossbow using only my knives.

Tod Cutler bushcraft knives can be found here Tod Cutler - Handmade Historical Reproduction Knives, Daggers

If you would like to support this channel, visiting my sites really helps as does signing up to the news letter on the websites, either one is fine

Original 1910 Payton sword
My great uncles from the Great War
Damn things nearly 48 inches long
With hand guard and double edged
Designed by Patton himself

and my Kbar

I have something similar tho it's a modern replica, hand and half IIRC, properly tempered and 'flexible' so as to not shatter. Not real useful now but, who knnows about the Future...

I hae and use a Cold Steel Kukri machete narly on a daily basis here chopping brush, small trees an such till I need to get the chainsaw. I think for most up-close and personal where I do not want to use or am not carrying my Bowie or tomohawk, it'll do nicely.

I have some stabby things, but I think my favorite piece of steel is a Condor Golok. It feels really well balanced to me, and the focus point for impact seems perfect. Just a pleasure to handle.

Some thoughts.....

- If you haven't ever done any martial arts previously, no worries, though to be fair, footwork, conditioning and grappling do translate into moving up into both edged and impact weapons; expedient or purpose built. Olympic fencing, though it will teach you the guards and cuts, its footwork is only linear (this and prohibited strike zones were introduced as safely measures and to ease scoring).

- If you are a "clean slate" and you want to learn to include armed combat and do it now I'd suggest looking into Arnis/Kali/Eskrima/Escrima out of the Philippines. That would give you both an unarmed and armed with both expedient and made to purpose hand weapons. This however will take some time to learn.

- Probably the easiest to obtain blades are either large chef knives or machetes (add a broomstick, duck tape and zip ties and you have a short pike). If you're looking at this in terms of a last ditch defense at home I'd add into the list of items 8 to 16 oz claw or ball-peen hammers, kitchen cleavers and the tomahawk.

For larger edged weapon (such as a machete or large chef's knife) use "on the fly" I would suggest looking into the techniques described for the smatchet.

Video about smatchet drawing and compound attacks NOTE: weapons are dangerous. Some types may be illegal to own or carry where you live around the world. These videos are primarily designed to provide a historical flavour of how things may have worked, or were taught / used. The onus is always on you to know the law and the repercussions as it applies to you. Train safely and responsibly.

I have a roughly 14 inch bladed Pakistani phantasy Bowie that I used to clear my back yard, as a machete a few years ago.
It swung REAL nice. And cut saplings real easy.

I would suggest the Cold Steel Gladius Machete. I have one and it shreds pumpkins well, and has a very very wicked point.

I also have a Cold Steel Grosse Messer which is very handy and very sharp, and would make short work of a marauder in the post apocalypse if it came to it I'm sure.

If you really want to use this to defend yourself, I suggest getting some basic training. Check out medieval Longsword basics and practice the motions. If you don't have training/practice and you try to use this thing, you'll probably die. If you want a short sword as your primary blade I would also suggest getting a Buckler (small shield) - Cold Steel has those too.

Yeah, if I need a blade, I will use the one on the end of my rifle.

The "system" for Olympic saber of cuts, thrusts, guards and combinations will work with any single edged sword including the messer. There are however so many other "moves" available to such cousin arms and their systems including Meyer's dussack system.

When you get into longsword, spadone, zhanmadao and such, there are cross over techniques with pole arms just because of the lengths of the weapons.

I'd suggest looking for videos on line covering these systems.....

That being said, having a live instructor is always best.

So many people today utterly scoff at training with firearms. Yet salles de armes were common in Europe and even in the early US.
