A friend told me today she called Direct Loan Servicing about consolidating her student loans, and was told that college student loans were not being consolidated "at this time".
If I'm not mistaken, that means that whatever colleges are creditors to student loans will have to recoup their money directly from the student. Beyond that, I'm not sure what it means in real terms to the college loan system.
I do know that college student loans will be much, much harder to get. Universities and colleges will have to carry millions on their books if the loans they have out to students can't be consolidated.
Can anyone shed any additional light on what this means if true? Couldn't find anything on their website.
I'll be calling them tomorrow and will report back with what I find out.
