I love loquat. We got a kumquat for testing to see if it will survive here in SE GA. My next tree is a loquat. Reminder of being a kid and trying to kill myself eating all the fruit ....... paid for it for days... and days.....This is my largest loquat tree. Some are already ripe. Takes a lot of them for preserves as they are more pit than pulp.

I also hope to get peaches (finally), plums, limes and some grapefruit.
We have the deer problem so everything is protected. We have half a dozen moving through each night and they can really destroy a tree / mature plant in a single evening. You'll just need to protect the blooms if you get a late cold snap. The squirrels and other animals have "planted" more than a few loquat pits along one of our fence rows and every once in a while I catch them growing in the swamp but they never survive to maturity because it is too wet. Or the swamp deer (some are as small as key deer and some look like White tails) will strip them of leaves and bark in the winter. If the swamp gets real dry I sometimes have deer come up in our back yard but that only happens about every four years or so. The part of the swamp that covers part of our property is usually wet year 'round.
What part of Florida are you in, Kathy?
