…… Spirit Walk in the USA???

Mary

I was wondering if anyone here took a Spirit Walk (like a Walk-About)? I'd like to do this and was wondering if there is a place in the USA where DH & I can do this.

If you did, what was it like (i.e., details, details ;) )? Would you mind telling me where it was? I imagine you have to go to the SouthWest, am I right?

Any interesting stories about your Spirit Walk would be appreciated! :rs:

Thanks,

See if you can find the book, "A Walk Across America". (It's actually "A Walk From Central NY to the Gulf Coast", but...)

Also, how about the Appalachian Trail? Or near Mt. Monadnock? How long do you wish to walk?

And, I'm gonna push The Woodsmaster series of DVDs from Ron Hood (www.survival.com), They will give you "how-to" knowledge to live in the wild.

One of the most spiritual feeling places I've ever been was Pyramid Lake, Nevada. On a Piyute Indian Reservation, I camped next to the lake over a weekend. It's hot there, when I went it cooled off to 103F after midnight. The lake water has a high mineral content. A midnight dip will cool you off and you'll be dry in 10 minutes.

AZ, can you tell me more about those? Any personal experiences?

You see, when we went to St. George Utah, via Las Vegas, the sun was setting and the desert was beautiful.

By the time we got the Virgin River Gourge it was pitch black. We knew instintivly that we were in a place of ...., something immense. (We just didn't know how much so until we drove back - WOW! no wonder we "felt" it!)

While spending a week in St. George we went to a place called Snow Canyon and it was the most beautiful place - as was an area we found and called our own about 3 miles behind St. George.

It was relaxing, you could hear the Earth talking to you, if you listened. You could feel how old it was and how many seasons the rock had seen.

The trip ended in driving out to the North Ridge of the Grand Canyon. Amazing!

Now, we're looking for a walk that is guided by someone (sorry I didn't make that clear). A cleansing walk. An awaking. A Satori. Something very wise and very old - a tradition where they let in strangers.

Starting to feel that feeling, ;)

I often go on 'walk-abouts'. You don't need to go anywhere special. All you need is a place where you can be alone with God. Someplace where you can forget that there's another 'world' out there. I have a small bit of woods back of my house and that's where I go. Without my hearing aids, there are no cars, trucks or planes to mess up the world. There are no other humans either. It is just me and God and the flora and fauna of His natural creation...just like it was with Adam in the Garden of Eden.

The best resource for you.

Sacred Circles Institute in Washington State is something I have experiences with. The founder, David Thomson and Mattie Davis-Wolf are incredible people.

The website offers a home study course, but if you contact them they may have some of the best ideas and suggestions for you.

I was privileged to have the opportunity to proof and evaluate the original home study course entitled "Walking the Sacred Hoop", and it's excellent, too. There are week long intensives held on their property twice a year.

One year I held down the fort - cockatial sitting, lol - while they taught in Poland by invitation. They've taught at Stonehenge and many other locations.

They also run a prison project where the try to reconnect incarcerated men and women with their own spirituality through an indiginous path. They do it at no cost and have made amazing changes in these peoples' lives.

David and Mattie are the real deal. They are more interested ALWAYS in your path than your wallet. They also owned some beautiful land on southern Whidbey Island, Washington. When we built the sweat there, we did it with a Cherokee medicine man in the traditional Cherokee tradition.

They've taken a lot of flak for "stealing native traditions', but they - and I - believe that Spirit calls, and calls to the heart, not the ego. Meaning, we can never "own" Spirit, and all paths to Union are sacred and should be freely given.

Give 'em a call, and tell 'em Kate said hi. It's been a long time.

And so you know, I'm NOT trying to sell you anything, and they won't, either. But if you are interested in something along indigenous lines that is NOT commercialized, they are the first resource you want to check.

Namaste.

Mary, what part of the country are you in? Can you even travel?

Crossbowboy, you lucky son of a gun.

I checked out your link. How very lucky you are to have a place like that so very close!

You have an incredible resource out your back door! I'll bet that land is incredibly welcoming and healing, and some of the people can't help but be.

And here I sit in Iowa, surrounded by farmers and the WAY overgrounded mindset only people in this part of the country have...

Say hi to the land for me.

Bright Blessings, Namaste to you, as well.

Amelia, the people there are probably a little more wonderful than you can imagine. It is the most incredible community I have ever encountered.

Also a great place to celebrate the Old Calendar with like-minded folks!

If you ever head out this way, let me know - I will introduce you to Bill Cohea, the founder. If you know who Tom Cowan is, he often does guided meditations there.

Bright Blessings to you too, sister!

Ameila, Crossbow, and everyone else thanks for the links and the knowing. I knew someone(s) here would have already done this. Guided meditation, the "sweat" it sounds exactly right! And yes I can walk, I can drive, fly, I'm in good physical condition right now :D

depending on how fast you go...
Like the wind! Lol...

This is going to be great...,
Thanks :rs:

Sounds like an incredible experience, Amelia.
Are they connected to The Bear Tribe MS?

Mary,

I cannot recommend a Spirit walk enough. I took one after I got out of the Marines..........it helped in so many ways. Almost everyday I am reminded of my walk.......a smell, thought, scene or spoken word.

I did mine in the SW with a medicine man and a Marine friend as a guide. Between the sweats and peyote (the medicine man was also a MD) I spent nearly a week on an enlightenment trip.

A Walkabout is also very healing and enriching.

There is the Colorado Trail...starts above Denver and ends down around Durango. There is also a Rocky Mountain trail that goes from Canada to Mexico.

www.columcille.org (Everyone who reads this, please go to this website, it is utterly amazing, esp if you live near PA. You will be WOW'd by the sheer beauty of it!)

Crossbow this place is amazing! And it is close by, Yahoo - We've decided to go at the end of September or sooner. Because it is so close to us, we can drive there and not break the bank.

I also like the Meditation Center (?) that is close by. We'll spend at least a day there too. Thank you so much for coming up with something, that is right now, doable for us :rs: & smile.

All the other ones sound more along the lines of what I want to get to, but I don't have the cash on hand at this second to go out west. But I will :D

JumpyFrog: What a great idea! It should be mandatory that all soldiers do what you did when they get out; so they can settle their minds and come to terms with whatever they need to.

I want to do it because right now I can't seem to think clearly about life in general. I suppose some of you know what I mean. More questions than answers, if you will. And I know it will be enriching and open up my mind/senses again to all that is around me. It's been a tough couple of years for us and we need discover things again.

I can't wait to go...!!!

:D
