Sour Cream Powder

I have never tried sour cream powder. I like cheddar cheese powder and buttermilk powder, and they come in handy. I use powdered milk a lot.

Can anyone describe the sour cream powder? Can you mix it and whip it like whipped topping? Is the taste good?

The can I ordered was from Walton Feed.

It can add richness and texture to whatever you mix it into, but flavorwise I was unimpressed. Not much tang to it at all. It's essentially powdered cream so can be reconstituted to use as you would cream though I've never tried to make whipped cream out of it.

Being nearly all milkfat it needs careful packaging and storage. I kept my opened can in the refrigerator because we didn't use it up very fast.

The only powdered sour cream that I have ever used came in a box of Hamburger Helper Beef Strogenoff. It wasn't bad. I think I had to mix it with milk but I can't remember. It wasn't bad.
I suspect it if the big cans are similar, it would be good to add to cream soups or stews or hamburger rock strogenoff.
