CRIME Someone stole gas from us

Do you have Pyracantha in the US, also known as firethorn.

Think of it as natures barbed wire smeared in Carolina Reaper sauce,

or some lovely Bougainvillea (also a GREAT place for snakes to hide) and it's colorful

I wonder if people will start stealing batteries now as they are expensive - if they can open the hood. My house looks so shabby that hopefully thieves will go to nicer houses around me. Two near me are worth more than $200,000. They would have to climb over the stockade fence too. My house looks very poor from the outside. Two old cars in the yard and an old broken pool.....(just needs liner, but no one to help install cuz need a few people.) So it looks like I don't have any money to repair things - which I don't.

We have thick hedges of Ragusa Roses inside our wire fence. They are miserable if you even brush them (think of a hundred splinters). They surround the entrance, side and part of the back fence. One time, maybe 20 years ago, we were going into the back yard and found a pile of id, credit cards etc. Someone had stolen stuff and was running the yards, and jumped over the fence in the dark into the roses. They must have been hopping in the dark in pain and just left everything. We called the cops and they came and gathered up the items the thief left behind.

My neighbors on both sides have pit bulls, they're barking machines, even when we go outside and they know us. When they all get going it's hard to tell where the barking is coming from. We leave lights on in the driveway and the porch.

Normally one of us is home 95% of the time. It's rare that we are both gone. And even if we are there is always one of the vehicles in the drive (we have 3).

If that doesn't deter a thief, there is always lead :D.

At least the thieves left the can.

I'd be worried they saw or suspected there was other useful or valuable goodies easily taken there and come back again when times get tougher.
We’ve been lulled in to a false sense of security, probably because we didn’t want to face reality. We didn’t even lock the front door until a few years back. When it was just me here I kept everything locked and my keys stayed in my pocket.

when dh came on the scene I felt secure with him being here, so I relaxed on keeping things locked up. Tonight I locked both vehicles and took the key out of the tractor. It’s a beginning

I’ve got 4 gallons of old 2 cycle that I wish I could get someone to steal so I don’t have to burn it in the fire pit this summer. As much as I’d love a dozen acres I am fortunate to live near my neighbors where we can keep an eye on each other. If you’d like to borrow a 100 lb demon of a dog let me know, though he can be bribed with cheese…

Nomifyle and her DH aren't really in a position to care for a dog right now.
I had really good guard dogs and they killed two goats, it broke my heart about the goats and also that I decided to get the dogs put down, my cousin come over and did it for us. The dogs were jealous of DH and the goats, but frankly I needed DH more than I needed the dogs, I hated to make that choice, but it is what it is.

We do have a dog, but she hides from strangers. Besides being a sweetheart she keeps the varments away from the chickens and the goats. She loves the goats and sleeps with them. DH has said something about getting a puppy from a friend. Its on him and he will have to help buy the food.

DH needs to start locking up his workshop and I need to find the keys to my she shed.

The problem with leaving a bait can is you have to remember that it is a bait can and not accidentally fill your own vehicle or equipment. Or worse someone else not knowing grabs it. Your friend is over helping out and you say go grab the gas can down by the mill. You mean one he grabs the other and unknowingly fills the tractor.

Label it "Do Not Use".

Crackhead thieves aren't going to read or believe it.

Put orange ribbon on it to remind you to listen to the warning. :D

Properly posting your land is very important should you encounter someone trespassing. Once posted it becomes criminal trespassing. That gives you more rights/leeway as a landowner to protect what is yours. Not only do I have "purple paint" at the proscribed intervals I also have 6x6 posts with hiway sized reflective metal signs. "Private Property" "No Trespassing" and the Arkansas statute printed on them. What that does is shift the burden of proof from me to the trespasser should things go south.
