This is drawn from my tribute video to Neda Agha-Soltan who was slain by a Basij sniper's bullet through the heart on June 20, 2009. The background music is Peter Gabriel's "Biko".
Note that there is some confusion regarding this message since Neda's sister is claiming that she died in her father's arms. In the news it is being reported that Neda's "fiance" said she was with her music teacher when she was murdered. So is this her sister or are the claims of this fiance misleading? Admittedly, it is odd that Neda's 'sister' is speaking in German, so maybe the translation is wrong or this is someone claiming to be her sister but who, in fact, is not. Then again, maybe Neda's sister is in Germany, speaks German and this is why she was able to get her word out.
On the other hand, Neda's family has been under virtual house arrest in Tehran since her killing, so there is no way to affirm what's true. That this "fiance" was able to contact the media from Tehran is suspicious, however, and that the man she was with when shot was reduced to her "music teacher" rather than her father takes some of the drama from the scene....something Iranian authorities would like to see. Also, why does the sister say that Neda longed to "fall in love with a man" if Neda was engaged to be wed?

I am here in order to tell you that my sister was very modest [in her dreams].
She longed - like me - after one day feeling the wind in her hair,
and just like me she loved poems by Farukh (?), a Persian poet,
and she longed for freedom and equality.
She longed for one day being able to say, 'I am Iranian' with her head held up high.
She longed to one day fall in love with a man with, giving birth to a daughter, singing lullabies at her cradle, plaiting her child's long hair.
My sister died because she was not allowed to live like a human being,
my sister died because injustice would not end,
my sister died because she loved life so much,
and my sister died because she cared lovingly for her fellow humans' well-being.
All our brothers and sisters in Iran: You are not alone!
