Reports: Woman shot at Lafayette's SIA; threat to community over

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – At 4:15 p.m. Monday, Lafayette police were responding to reports of a woman being shot while in the parking lot at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, on IN-38 East in Lafayette.

Police scanner reports included the description of a suspect possibly with a semi-automatic handgun fleeing north into the tree line near the SIA recreation center.
At around 4:40 p.m., the Journal & Courier witnessed law enforcement order a man to the ground nearby, surrounding and detaining him. Initially police searched for a possible second suspect but, according to reports, that person had been jogging in the area at the time and was not detained.
Just before 5:30 p.m., however, Lt. Justin Hartman with the Lafayette Police Department updated the Journal & Courier on the hunt for the suspect.

“The person who was shot," Hartman said, "that person has been taken to the hospital. And we have located the suspect. I believe at this time that the suspect has taken his own life. There is no longer an ongoing threat to the community.”

The woman's condition was not known at this time.

At 5:17 p.m., police lifted the lockdown at SIA, where parents had been allowed to pick up their children from the company day care.
“We initially put the daycare on lockdown as a safety precaution, and it sounds like now we are helping facilitate getting parents in to get their children from the daycare," Hartman said.

SIA employees were entering and leaving the plant from certain entrances and exits.
This is a developing story and will be updated as information is made available.

It's a large plant, been there for years. Have a younger cousin who is now retired from there. His son is a police officer with Lafayette PD. Lots of family ties in that part of the country.

Lafayette is in bad shape these days. The jungle crowd have been coming down from crapcago ever since Cabrini Green closed. Lafayette used to be a great small town but now has frequent murders and other crime from the blacks. PLUS, the mall area has been totally swarmed by illegals with hotheads and crime on their minds.

I’d usually say something about the poorly built cars that come out of the plant; but no.
Hope the victim pulls through. Sounds like a domestic squabble.
