This is almost as good as that attempted car jacking last year in Chicago of the MMA fighter. That being said the moral of this story is watch your stuff when in public.

SAN FRANCISCO - Tennis Star Serena Williams says she chased down a man who ran off with her cell phone on Tuesday night in San Francisco.

Williams was having dinner with a friend at Mission Chinese restaurant on Mission and 18th streets.

According to a post on Williams' Facebook page, a suspicious looking man grabbed her cell phone off a chair and ran out of the restaurant.

That's when Williams says her 'Superhero Sense' kicked in.

"I jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the cozy restaurant (leaping over a chair or two) and chased him down. He began to run but I was too fast. (Those sprints came in handy) I was upon him in a flash!"

She says she confronted the man who said he 'accidentally' grabbed her phone.

Williams says she received a standing ovation when she got back to the restaurant.

"I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bully's and other men. It was a win for the ladies!

Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero."

I would LOVE to have seen a video of this!

My favorite parts of "Crocodile Dundee" are where he throws the can of peas at the mugger and hits him square on the head, and the "That's not a knife--that's a knife!" to the hoods who try to rob him and his lady.

Maybe some of the patrons got a cell-phone video of the action as it went down?

It's fortunate for the thief that Serena did not have her tennis racket with her at the time. She's back in her seat with the recovered phone in about a minute flat.

There is a video available.

What is fortunate for her is that the thief didn't have a gun or a knife and the will to use a weapon.

The situation could have turned out MUCH differently.

Is any personal possession you own really worth risking your life?

This as well. As I pointed out keep your stuff secure on you so this is less likely to happen. The fact is the amount of armed robberies in SF have gone up and what Dozdoats brings up is (and was in this case) a very distinct possible ending.
