San Bernardino Shooter’s Brother, 2 Others Arrested After Warrants Served: FBI

Three people connected to San Bernardino gunman Syed Rizwan Farook, including his older brother, were arrested on charges of federal conspiracy, marriage fraud and making false statements, the FBI announced Thursday morning.
The arrests were not related to last December’s terror attack at the Inland Regional Center, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing an anonymous source.
The three people arrested in the investigation are Syed Raheel Farook, 31; his wife, Tatiana Farook, 31; and her sister, 26-year-old Mariya Chernykh, who is married to Enrique Marquez Jr., according to a news release from the FBI.
Marquez has been accused of supplying two guns used in the mass shooting. His trial on charges that he conspired with Syed Rizwan Farook in 2011 and 2012 to provide material support to terrorists is expected to take place this summer.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the FBI had executed multiple warrants in Corona and elsewhere in connection with the Dec. 2 mass shooting Thursday morning.
Two people were arrested at Syed Raheel Farook’s home Thursday after the FBI conducted a search warrant at the house, according to the Times.
Federal agents previously served a search warrant of his Corona residence back in February.
The latest warrants were served nearly five months after Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik opened fire in the conference room of the Inland Regional Center, killing 14 of Farook’s work colleagues from the San Bernardino County Department of Health.
The couple used semiautomatic rifles in the attack, which also left nearly two dozen others wounded.
They were fatally shot later that day after leading police on a chase that ended in a gunbattle in a residential area about 2 miles away from where the initial attack took place.
Both U.S.-born Farook, 28, and Pakistan native Malik, 29, had expressed commitment to Islamic jihad and martyrdom in direct, private online messages in late 2013, months before Malik moved to the United States to live with Farook, FBI Director James Comey has previously said.
