Governor Abbott Sends Additional Resources To Local Officials Throughout Texas

February 15, 2021 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the State of Texas is deploying maximum resources to local officials throughout the state to respond to severe winter weather and to restore power to our communities. State agencies are sending resources and personnel to help local officials clear roadways and to assist essential workers, such as healthcare professionals and power grid workers, in carrying out their essential duties.

Furthermore, Governor Abbott and the Texas Military Department have deployed National Guard across Texas to conduct welfare checks and to assist local authorities in transitioning Texans in need to one of the 135 local warming centers that the state has helped established across Texas.

On Sunday, Governor Abbott sought and received a waiver from the U.S. Department of Energy that allows Texas power generators to increase production. Unfortunately, some of those generators are unable to increase production at this time because their operations have been frozen by weather conditions. They are working to get their power production back on line.

“Due to the severe weather and freezing temperatures across our state, many power companies have been unable to generate power, whether it’s from coal, natural gas, or wind power,” said Governor Abbott. “ERCOT and the PUC are working non-stop to restore power supply. The state has also deployed resources to assist Texans without power and to help essential workers continue to carry out their jobs. In the meantime, I encourage all Texans to continue to stay off the roads, and conserve energy as state agencies work with private providers to restore power as quickly as possible.”
The following resources have been deployed:
  • Texas Department of Public Safety: 3,300 Troopers and 3,300 patrol vehicles responding statewide to events in areas adversely affected by winter weather
  • Texas Military Department: 6 Winter Weather Packages consisting of 90 personnel, 28 High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicles, 1 Field Light Ambulance, and 4 Wreckers
  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department: 585 personnel, 531 4x4 vehicles, 50 UAS, 1 aircraft and 9 K9 teams
  • Texas A&M Forest Service: 83 personnel, 6 Motor Graders, and 58 4x4’s
  • Texas Department of Transportation: 2,314 personnel, 695 snowplows, 188 loaders, 55 Motor Graders and 757 4x4 vehicles
  • Texas Emergency Medical Task Force: 1 AMBUS and 1 Ambulance Strike Team and 4 Severe Weather Packages consisting of 1 Task Force Leader, 1 MIST,1 AMBUS and 1 Ambulance Strike Team each on stand-by
ERCOT’s ability to provide power has been limited by the ability of private power generators of all sources, including natural gas, wind, and solar, to generate power for the grid. To avoid large scale blackouts and damage to the grid, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas began implementing outages to preserve the integrity of the power grid while the companies that generate power work to restore power generation.
Previously, Governor Abbott issued a disaster declaration in all 254 counties, deployed resources throughout the state, and ordered the Texas State Operations Center (SOC) to expand its daily operations to 24-hours a day.
The Governor also previously requested a Federal Emergency Declaration for Texas in response to the severe winter weather, which was granted by the Biden administration.

Are we sure this is not a hacking event that has been spun. Or do we know it is stupid green rules and a cold snap
more like it is evil Democrat revenge for voting for Trump - they cut off power to get revenge
forgetting this provides more reason for rejecting the green new deal

Daughter came home from work early today. Sh works in NC at an insurance company...one of the big names. Agents all across the US for this company are experiencing phone outages. They were told it’s because of the power outages in Texas.

Yep... when shortages develop, commercial contracts allow for requiring non-residential customers to shut down until the weather/emergency moderates.

Summerthyme

One of the plants I worked at was in some kind of program about that.

We were on a list to get shut down first, but got some kind of price break.

They called us when it was a possibility and then as a shut down go closer.

Gave us time to get the production lines through a normal shut down.

Otherwise, we had plastic hardening in extruders and pelletizers....big mess to get back up.

Had to dump a bunch of product in that scenario.

Texas:
Son lives in the burbs north of Dallas, has been out of power since 2 am 12/15/2021. Still no power. The power came back twice and went off nearly immediately. The power company is not responding to most calls and told the son that the problem on the system is being worked on, but will probably be tomorrow before repaired.

They have natural gas heaters and a natural gas stove that are in service. The HVAC system is down due to lack of power.

Be prepared for this may be the new norm.

Oklahoma:
No problems with power so far.

Heating with propane and the water heater and stove are propane. Keeping what is electric that is not need off.

God bless us all and keep us safe.

Got a call about an hour ago from Entergy Arkansas, saying that if usage in our area is not reduced, they will have to go to rolling blackouts. Weatherman says it will be zero tonight. It's going to be a long night.

Yeh and my nurse friend in Austin has a husband in a memory care facility which is "all electric" which has been out for about 3 hours so far. NO heat/Light, no hot food (electric stove) and fragile patients.

Bob's issue is Parkinson's as well as dementia so he's pretty fragile.
And power in Bob's Austin facility is finally ON, after 16 hours.

Praise the Lord.

Wilson County SE of San Antonio. Our power hasn’t flickered or gone off. I’ve been watching our electric company outage map since yesterday. It went from about 190 without power and they slowly fixed them all. I just checked and they show 0 without power now. I hope it holds because our water has been off all day and will probably be off a few more.

Over 4 million without power in Texas.

How many will perish?

The regulators knew that this was coming and yet the power system has failed due to poor planning. There will be heads rolling in Texas over this.

The finger pointing will be monumental.

Texas attracted a lot of business/industry and it will stop attracting if this is not fixed. There have been phone and internet outages in multiple other states due to power outages at a provider in Texas. Some companies are going to have problems with their out of state customers if they cannot convince them they have this in hand.
