ENVR Rock Dust and Blood Meal For Plant Growth.

China Connection

TB Fanatic
I have been messing around a lot of recent looking after a friends plants while he is away and also a garden area where I live.

I get really great results using granite rock dust and blood meal.

The stuff I use is in a dust fineness. It sticks to leaves and has to be washed off. Due to being so fine I can get results in one to two weeks.

The blood meal I use is also a fine powder but not as fine as the rock dust I use.

Our flagship product, Ocean Trace™, is made in Australia. Using sunlight, we evaporate 100 gallons of ocean water down to a 1 gallon concentrate, containing the full spectrum of minerals found in ocean water. In the evaporation process, 99% of the sodium and 90% of the chloride solidify, leaving a liquid concentrate that is high in energy, and incredibly dense in micro-nutrients. Ocean Trace™ is OMRI listed and CCS verified as a fertilizer. It may be applied through foliar applications, through drip, flood, or sprinkler irrigation systems, or applied directly on the ground. Helpful bacteria thrive on Ocean Trace™. It does well in compost teas, plus helps to fortify other fertilizers, including fish, kelp and humates. Ocean Trace™ is also OMRI listed as a livestock feed, and may be added to animal drinking water (a human version is also available). Since its minerals are in ionic form, it is readily utilized by the body.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat price for the amount!

Even with shipping, this 50 lb bag of blood meal is cheaper per pound than any I've found. I can't get this stuff locally, so finding this large a bag was actually really great. Our quarter-acre lawn was left neglectd for 5 years before we moved in, and this stuff has turned the yellowing grass right back to a vivid deep green. Plus, it's non toxic, so the dog can roll around in the grass, or I suppose your kids too. The same can't be said of chemical nitrogen grass treatments!

The nitrogen content is low enough that it won't cause any burning if you accidentally put on too much, but high enough that it perks up the nitrogen-loving sod grasses. I'm a happy customer!

5.0 out of 5 starsThe BEST Deer Repellant EVER!
By Caroline Snyder on April 24, 2013
We bought 50 lbs in early 2010 and it is still going strong! We have maybe used 1/3 of a bag. I use it principally as a natural rabbit and deer repellant and it works incredibly well. No discernable odor.. to us.. but Deer do NOT like the smell of blood! About every two weeks, I lightly sprinkle the product over the flower and shrub gardens.. don't worry about it landing on leaves and flowers.. it will blow or wash off with rain or waterling.. and around the base of my young fruit trees. If it rains, that's OK.. the blood meal washes off, and in warm temps will start to decompose.. WE can't smell it but the deer and rabbits (obligate herbivores) can smell it a mile off! Before I started using it, my Asian Lilies would be decapitated, the Irises and Hostas would be nibbled to the ground.. the tops would be taken off my sweet pepper plants too. I had previously noticed that blood was an ingredient of expensive "deer repellants" so decided to go down the dried blood route and have been mightily impressed! Warning.. wash your hands thoroughly after using! Although this is a sterile product when dry, once it rehydrates there will be the potential for pathogenic bacteria to take hold, which is fine in the soil but not at the dining table!! Amazing value for money.. with the shipping it works out around $1.60 per lb via this company.

I found the blood meal I bought exactly what I had hoped for. It not only works well, but it was a great value for the money. I would hope that this product will continue to be available in the future so I can purchase it as needed.

5.0 out of 5 starsDecent price for bulk order

I used this to fertilize my lawn and garden. I got several compliments on how much better my lawn looked last summer after using it, so I would say it works. It was cheaper to buy it from Amazon, even with shipping costs, than from my local garden store.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat deal if you need this quantity

Best deal around even with the shipping cost. It came in 3 days doubled bagged in a paper feed style bag and poly bag. Product is fine powder as I would expect. I was a little nervous, being I was buying the large bag but no clumps and free flowing. Can't beat blood meal for a little plant green up and pick me up.

5.0 out of 5 starsGood fertilizer, great animal repellent
By Papadoc TOP 500 REVIEWER on September 16, 2015

I've used blood meal before, so I know what it can do for crops. But the animal repellent aspect was new to me and quite a nice bonus.

This is largely what I use as an organic fertilizer component for my green crops such as spinach, swiss chard, kale, and my herbs. It's fantastic but you have to watch how much you put on. I haven't ever had any burn issues, but you can over fertilize and have things grow faster than they should. Just top dress the crop before a rain and let nature take it's path.

The upside of course is that the deer and raccoons that have been pestering my garden are now warded off. I could live trap the coons and try to fence out the deer, but not always with great success, and certainly with quite a bit of time and energy. So far this year and to the best of my knowledge, I haven't lost any crops to the woodsy friends. The coons stayed away from the root crops and the deer left the spinach alone. These were the two crops that were the most seductive. My neighbor still has problems and I still see them around, but they just aren't hitting my garden this year.

3.0 out of 5 starsExpensive fertilizer with minimal usefulness as a deer repellant
By LaRamee on July 14, 2015

Blood meal is a staple in the gardener's arsenal of animal repellants. In practice, at least for the savvy whitetails who frequent my plot, it appears to be of only moderate effectiveness. You probably need to apply it more generously than I did. A good dousing with a thunderstorm and the product goes into full fertilizer mode. I put up motion detector lights, which seem to be working better than bloodmeal after dark. During dusk and dawn, my veggies remain vulnerable. Venison jerky anyone??

5.0 out of 5 starsSo far all is good!

I've been sprinkling Blood Meal around all my hostas and day lilies every 2-3 weeks since my 50# bag arrived mid-April. We live in the middle of 50 acres of woods in NJ, with a high deer population. We have seen deer around the periphery of our property since I started doing this, but thus far, NO deer damage - and they have killed plants by completely devouring all the foliage in past years. If I see that a couple leaves have been nibbled, it's time to apply the next round of blood meal.

Even with shipping costs, this is more economical than many of the deer repellants if you need a reasonably large quantity, and seems to work pretty well.

Now, could someone please tell me how to deter slugs from eating my hostas?!

know this is off the subject a little, but Saturday I got all my plants in, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and roses - the problem is its cold out here, what do I do with them and what temperature should it be to put them in the ground? sorry for the derail

For free rock dust, find a well driller and see if they will let you take a couple buckets of their tailings. That is all good rock dust and it is just waste to them. My father gets dump truck loads free from his well guy for his gardens, fields and orchard.

When I use bloodmeal I mix it with a little soap and compost tea in a hand watering jug and apply it that way. Sometime with a tiny but of ammonia. If not it seems to attract some flies and mice.

Dogs also love the bag of dried blood. Has a dog get my bag onetime and ate a lot of it. Vet said to watch for burns in the mouth but they never showed up.

Last bag I bought did not say what critter the blood was from. I'll bet if you got dried pigs blood it may be a PR selling point. Muslim repellent?

Hello Paul d, the Paramagnetic rock dust will give you a reading which is good but mineral composition is more important. Quite often you can get both together which is a big plus but it comes down to cost in most locations.

The other thing is fineness of the rock dust. If it is too course it might be just about useless. The stuff I use goes mad in black soil and I do okay with it in coconut fiber as well. I threw it around one bush two years ago that was washed out looking but now is strong and healthy. It got only one application of rock dust and nothing else.

The blood meal stuff is great. I have the best of liquid fertilizers for the supply of organic nitrogen. By this I mean nitrogen bound up in a protein form. This is the form that you want as it gives you strong plants.

Now the liquid forms on the market will not give you anywhere close for cost what the blood meal will give you. However the blood meal needs warm weather to be available so don't throw it about in the middle of winter and expect a fast result. It is still going to work but if you have worm activity in the surface soil.
