I bought this book because I thought that it would be helpful because it focuses a lot on fish and seafood and forageables to be found around the beach. Welllll ... wrong kind of beach for me. LOL.

Hank Shaw is the author and the book is definitely written from the perspective of someone living in New England. Yes, part one of the book is called "Foraging from Coast to Coast" and the info is valid and good ... just almost too general for my needs and the Deep South.

Part II is called "Fishing and Feasting from Streams to Sea" and while interesting I feel the Deep South is again not truly represented. I don't think that is wrong I just found the book to not be applicable for the most part to my location.

Part III was better. It was about hunting ... small game primarily like rabbits and squirrels.

Overall I think if you live any place else than the very Deep South you'll find some of the recipes and instructions useful. But the book isn't cheap so see if you can take a look at it at the bookstore before you purchase it online. Even the Kindle edition is $8.99 so think carefully.

However, what I did find was Hank Shaw's website that has come interesting articles. http://honest-food.net/ The first article link that caught my eye was called "Starving off the Land" full of humor and grace on how to face Spring.

So while the book wasn't bad, just not what I expected, it led to other good things like the author's website ... which was free. Grin. LOL.

Love his website. I follow it faithfully and enjoy a lot of his stuff. I thought about getting his book but for the longest time there wasn't a kindle version. So I couldn't look through it to see how much I'd have to change. And I can't justify the money if we can't use the recipes. With 13 food allergies in the house, it's likely I'd have to alter most of the recipes somehow.
