I havnt noticed many shortages in CA High Desert only in different cuts of meat like cube steakscare hit and miss.
But Instacart prices are insane. Walmart is still mostly cheaper but not on everything. Eggs are really high out here fir free range and cage free. Some organic over 10.00 doz.

Wow! My daughter buys organic, cage free, and free range eggs but i cant tell the difference and never bought them. Better to save $5 on a dozen eggs.
I'm not opposed to factory farming, they are Livestock,
Not pets. With the number of people to feed in this
world you choose factory farming or famine. Period

I understand your opinion. I just love animals and don't care to contribute to their suffering if I can help it. Having said that no I'm not a vegan, yes I used to fish and grew up in a family of hunters. But none of us tortured them before we killed and ate them.

Shake the cans first. You can tell how well packed they are. I have done that with canned roast beef and found the method more or less reliable. But it is a brand thing, not an individual one can vs. another can on the shelf thing. It applies to most other chunk meats as well as roast beef.

RR
I have found it to be can-to-can within the same brand.

Stems and pieces are no longer just for mushrooms.

Mt. Olive Kosher dill spears (1 gallon jar) now has them. My guess is that they no longer send the curved pickles down the line to chop into relish. When the machines make straight cuts into a curved pickle...

WalMart eggs, here in western MA, have gone from just over $2/dozen, to $4.54/dozen in less than a month.

So far, every price increase over the past couple of years, happening several times a year, has met with a price plunge shortly thereafter. This time?...We'll see.

Reminds one of those "bent carrot" commercials. :D

Odd that they don't male them into relish.

Another short report from Ireland.

This isn't precisely about prices, though they continue to rise. But it is an observation.

It seems that shoplifting and related incidents are getting bad enough in Ireland, and the local Tesco (think a smaller version of Walmart, but mostly groceries) has taken action.

Even in our relatively rural area, we have one large one, and my housemate and I went shopping last night. As soon as we came in and took the escalator up to the retail part of the store, I noticed something.

Instead of simply walking in as usual, the entire front area was now surrounded by a heavy "fence" made of painted metal, along with a gate to enter. This gate included the areas for the bathroom and, of course, all the checkouts.

I mumbled something about Brave New World meets 1984, and my housemate didn't hear it and said, "What?" and I said rather loudly:

"Welcome to Jail."

She had seen it on a previous trip and said, "Yeah, I know."

Thankfully, none of our other local shops have done this, and I suspect with Tesco, it was a nationwide corporate decision intended for places like Dublin. But it didn't make me feel "safe" in any way; it felt like walking into a trap especially when I needed to get to that bathroom!

Shopped this week (different days) and found reduced small packs fideo/macaroni for 25 cents. Today shopped at Safeway and they are clearancing Amy's Minestrone soup for $2.14 a can (shelf price $4.29) and bought all they had on racks. Sprouts reduces salad stuff and hit the 25 cent cart for good salad makings ...

I keep thinking about all the potentials in current news and I prayed about buying more stuff. If the LORD provides it, I buy it when possible!

Genova tuna is available on Amazon. It's a bit spendy, but honest-to-God CHUNKS, and no flakes or mush.View attachment 494550
available in water or olive oil.
5 Ounce (Pack of 8)
4.7 out of 5 stars
11,097
9K+ bought in past month
$16.36$16.36 ($6.54$6.54/lb)
This is my favorite tuna, and I buy it by the case from amazon, most months. I love it in the olive oil too.

We have our own chickens and yes, the feed is going up. I'm eating alot of eggs these days being on a carnivore diet. If I had to pay those prices I might not be able to eat so many in a day. I buy the grocerys, DH buys the animal feed.

I do not buy meat at walmart, its nasty. Fortunately in my area there are other options, but even for wm we have to drive a distance to them.

I ran over to our new Dollar Tree tonight for soup and beef broth.
They have restocked.
I noticed shelves looked real good with basics thankfully!
Swanson beef broth
Campbells soups
Soap, dish soap detergents, many many other cleaning supplies.
Cold meds, and they’re even carrying gallon jugs of purified water (I’ll get some of those tomorrow maybe)

I limited myself to only the beef stock and more soup but did grab a large Ajax dish soap bottle.
I just feel it in my bones to keep up on everything right now!

Kroger has butter on sale this week for $2.79 lb
Ribs of course for Labor Day (didn’t buy any yet)

Laundry detergent
Eggs

Those are what I grabbed but don’t recall ALL of the things on sale.
It might be the best time to take advantage of sales on whatever we can, before prices go up. I don’t have specific information, I just “feel” it.

Tomatoes went up $1 a pound green onions went up $.69. I would plant a garden but the growing season is really short the last frost was in June and it killed all my berries. Besides that this yard is all rocks, it is so bad I can't use a lawn mower I have to use a weed wacker.

I bought 125 pounds of chick stater feed today, and the cost was $66.

Less than a year ago, it was under $50.

Besides bird flu culling, wanna guess another reason for rapidly rising egg prices?
I take wheat (raise my own) grind it to small tiny pellet size and mix with corn that has been ground to similar size. Seems to work fine with mine. After you get them eating that, several days, I cut up greens, fine at first and spread that to get them used to greens so that when I can turn them into a pen they will be ready to eat greens. Later they get turned out during the day at night. They get locked up or around here something eats them. When they are getting closer to grown the wheat can be whole and the corn cracked. They eventually have the run of five acres. The chickens keep the insects under control. The eggs are much better then store bought and have deep yellow yokes.
My guess is the bird flu culling for BS reasons, you also have all the facilities and bird raising building getting burned down is the main secondary reason for price increases.

Groceries seem to have taken a noticeably big leap in prices over August. Strange pricing on eggs. Some store brand eggs are more expensive than regional name brand or premium eggs.
Even soda is way up there. Which has made it easy to stop drinking it the last few weeks.
I added eggs to my Walmart cart today. $5.87 for 18 count. $11.08 for an 18 count 2 pack. When we have bought the 2 count 18 pack eggs in the past, we get multiple breakage. We eat alot of eggs so we will buying them again soon.

We went to a Neighborhood Market to get a few things. Ovaltine that I bought for the grandkids was up in price. Also the big canisters of hot chocolate was up at least .80 cents. I put the hot chocolate in my coffee. I wanted Heinz apple cider vinegar but there was none. The vinegar shelves had a lot of bare shelves. We were shopping in Russellville Arkansas.

At Sams today the egg section was sparse. Usually I buy the organic pasture raised eggs but there was none. Only Egglands Best 18 count and Members Mark brand 24 ct cage free $5.68 limit 2 per membership. Haven’t seen limits since the last bird flu scam. Cape Coral, Florida

The prices are going up and up. Since I changed my diet I've been to the grocery more often. And some things I usually buy for me I don't need to buy now at all. It concerns me that if the power goes off for an extended amount of time I won't know what to eat. I have a full pantry of food for a "normal diet" so I don't need to worry about that but what about my carnivore diet. I do have a decent supply of canned meats though, but what will they coast of cameltoe gets elected.

I have to buy a new battery for my mother's van. Batteries have gone up almost 50%. That's a big jump. I could let it slide for awhile but only having one vehicle, living out in the woods, we really need to have them both viable.

Don’t skimp on the vehicles!
You do need a way to get around!

We had to go to town to help a friend. I told Hubby to stop in at our small town Harps to get the apple Cider vinegar. They had no Heinz vinegar except the small bottles. I will try Kroger or 10 Box the next time we go.

I've never been more thankful for my pantry than the last few months. I have the option not to pay ridiculous prices, to wait for a sale, to shop elsewhere for better prices or take time to figure out what to substitute. Final option is to do without that item. Some items like frozen orange juice and fresh eggs, I choose to pay the ridiculous prices. Beef is now mostly a memory with the exception of ground beef which I can stretch to many meals. I mostly buy pork or chicken for economy.

I firmly believe things are going to get much worse probably sooner rather than later, so I'm allowing myself more treats than I ordinarily do. I figure that might not be an option in six months, so I'll spoil myself a little now. I don't go overboard, but nothing wrong with a bit of ice cream now and then. If I want to go totally crazy, I'll buy a beef roast, but so far, the $30 price has kept me from doing that!
