Just placed an online order for Ghirardelle chocolate bars. Up until just recently there was a "warm weather" shipping requirement. All orders before had to go out on premium rate FedEx shipping, which was very expensive.

Found a coupon discount code for 15 percent off and applied it successfully to the order. Got free shipping with the $80 minimum size order.

Advantage to ordering direct is that the entire range of favors are available, many of which are simply not present at my local Walmart.

Price has gone up from before and after all costs, a bar now costs $3.00 delivered.

Our Kroger in Indiana has turkeys and hams now.

But they’re so expensive the cases have sat full .
I saw not a single one in grocery carts yesterday.

Also, their seafood case that holds salmon was totally empty and it smelled. I think the salmon has just sat there with no one buying, so they pitched it all out.

We went grocery shopping, Tuesday morning. Other than the frozen pies, frozen pie crusts, and all frozen potato products, our local Walmart was well stocked. Yesterday, a friend told me that she went to this same Walmart Tuesday afternoon, and the whole store was mostly empty of food! She's a prepper but seeing Walmart like that really scared her. She said that it was worse than it ever was during Covid. I'm glad we went earlier in the day. She asked the cashier, when checking out, what was going on. The cashier told her it was a combination of things. Shipping was a big problem, and lots of people beginning to stock up out of fear (panic buying). A load of frozen chicken breasts had been unloaded that morning (I bought a bag), and it sold out in only 2 hours, according to this cashier.

Tupelo, MS. area.

It's getting more "real" out there, even average Joe's are beginning to see it. I just hope that folks are waking up to the fact that elections have consequences. And the fact that they have been continuously lied to by the MSM and this administration.

Our Kroger in middle-TN has a seemingly normal amount of turkeys, and at about a "normal" price. But, I have a feeling that the price is an illusion and they're selling at cost just to get people to buy a lot of stuff for Thanksgiving, so they make their money on the other items.

I believe that a lot of people are waking up. When we were checking out that morning, there was a man checking out ahead of us who was either a "prepper", or a person who had just started stocking up. I got the impression that he was a "prepper" who was still buying to add to his stock, because of some of the things he said to us. The woman behind us, in line to check out, was the same. I got the same impression that she was also a prepper. She whispered to me that I needed to be buying everything I could while it was still available. From the looks of her shopping cart, she was doing just that. Little did the man or woman know that we already had been preparing for a few years now.

ETA.....As Cary and I were walking to our car with our groceries, I jokingly told him that, "Today Must Be Prepping Day" at Walmart simply from the encounter we had just had with the man and woman at check-out. Little did I know, at that time, what would be happening there the rest of the day.

All of the sweet potato fields around us were half picked this year. Actually I would say LESS than half picked maybe they got one quarter to perhaps 1/3 of the sweet potatoes once they turn them over. No way no how did they miss these you can literally drive by and see into the field big pink sweet potatoes everywhere. Husband went out into the field right in front of us and in 10 minutes in a 20x20 area picked up 55 gallon drum full of sweet potatoes. Nice ones too. And, he didn't go out there until after several dozen people have been in the fields scavenging them in the days after they were picked.

I've noticed that all of the sweet potato fields around us were barely picked this year never seen it like this before.

I just cannot understand why the farmers are allowing the fields to be left like this there's got to be thousands of dollars worth of sweet potatoes right in front of my house sitting and rotting.

Why?

Gotta "old bologna" question for you all. When I crave a baloney sandwich , the baloney is "ok" tasting for the first couple of days then the remainder becomes "slimey" in the package.

So...while I won't make more sandwiches with it, do you think I could just fry up the remainder rather than toss it?

(I live alone and hate wasting food)

I don't know. If I want baloney I usually buy Oscar Meyer all beef baloney. What you can do is after you open the package, take what you want and then put the rest in the freezer. When you want more, take out a few slices and they will thaw quickly. As for the slime, you could wash it off. Look at your package expiration date too.

I would fry up the whole pack and freeze what you don't eat. Take as many pieces as you want out when needed. Stick in the microwave to thaw and warm.

Maybe you should check the operating temp inside your fridge. With all the delicious salt and nitrates involved, baloney shouldn't be going slimy on ya that fast.

Neither here nor there.
I got a bag of Halloween candy mix on discount. Either covid has killed my tastebuds, or they changed the formula. I seriously considered they tasted like poison, but I failed to die. We'll eat this candy only after we run out of dogs.

I don't think it's you, we recently bought some twizzlers pull and peel, the cherry flavor, and the entire bag of licorice smelled and tasted off. The bag we bought last month smelled and tasted like it should have. Don't know if this has to do with the supposed candy shortage or not.

Eggs are the perfect food, will sustain your health instead of ruin it with too many carbs. They are worth the price, although we have many chickens and our own eggs. But if I didn't have my own I'd pay the price for them.
I agree! I love eggs in all forms. They’re one of the few things I could get DH to eat when he was sick with Covid pneumonia!

I’ll just have to pay whatever prices are out there amd buy on sale, they keep forever

After the post above about milk prices, I walked by the milk cooler at Walmart today. The name brand full strength milk is $6.80 a gallon. The Walmart brand was just under $4.

I'm glad I don't use a lot of milk and when I do it is the shelf stable milk from Dollar Tree. I would hate to have $7 milk go bad.

Costco online is showing an 8-pack of Spam (12 oz cans) for $26.99. I'm not sure what the in-store price is. That's about $3.37 per can (online price is usually higher than in-store price).

Mom and Dad were out at the Meijer the other day, picking up groceries, when they decided to check on the Thanksgiving dinner package Meijer offers. They were actually first in line; the forms had just been received.

So as they were filling out the form so they could reserve a dinner, they learned that our Meijer was offering just 20 Thanksgiving packages.

And there would be no Christmas dinner packages.

They considered getting a second package, with a ham dinner, in advance of Christmas, but they decided against it for reasons best described as "Biden voters."

Husband works in one of the largest railroad yards in the country -- they normally give everyone a turkey for Thanksgiving. This year they announced that due to supply chain issues they were handing out gift cards.
The grilling was merciless. The shop manager claimed not to know what part PSR might have played in the supply issues, and he definitely doesn't keep up on industry news, he's too busy running the shop.

Maybe it's time to ask to glean the fields. Take a bunch of friends and dig sweet potatoes for yourselves and food pantries. That's assuming the farmer gives permission.

Even though eggs are very expensive, for food value they have a huge impact. Another million egg layers were or are being destroyed in Wright County, Iowa this week due to avian flu.

I went to local small town store today and purchased 5 bananas and a store brand of frozen french fries total $4.29. Everything else I looked at was a "you must be kidding" price. I'm so thankful for my preps and more so every time I shop. I'm still replacing what I use, but not trying to stock up additional amounts.

Did the Walmart curbside yesterday. (N MN) Got a 14.5 lb. Jennie-O turkey at .98/lb. no problem. If the local grocery or Aldi has a better deal in a week or two, will grab another one. Otherwise, ordered a few canned goods, baking supplies and some fresh produce and all was in stock. Thankfully no need to buy eggs, and meat only when a really good deal.

Today's Aldi ad has some good prices. Turkey $1.07 #, chicken drumsticks 69¢ #, stuffing mix 75¢, cream style corn and French green beans 49¢ ea., brown & serve rolls 99¢ pkg. of 12 and butter $2.99 # with limit of 6. Usually this close to Thanksgiving, we'd see sugar and flour on sale, but no mention of either.

I went to my local Chinese place to get a to go order, because I’m sick of soup and hamburger, which is pretty much what I’ve been living on. Got an order of curry (yes, this Chinese place does curry, odd as that sounds.) I’ve gotten the same meal there a bunch of times over the years. Last time was about a year ago. The cost at that time was $10.95. The cost today was $17.95! I flat-out told the person running the register that there was something wrong, and that was not the correct price. She went back and got the manager. I told him the issue and he re-rang it. $14.95. Still up 40%. This time I completed the order but told him that unfortunately, I couldn’t patronize them again because of the prices. He said he understood.

Another thing I enjoyed down the crapper.

That's what l'll be looking for, here, .49/lb with $25 purchase, just a different store. They've been doing the same sale every year, for almost 2 decades.
Just got two turkeys from shnucks for 59 cents/lb. Had to be a loyalty customer for that price

County market also had them for 59 cents lb but the shnucks store is on the east side of Urbana and the county market clear out on the west side of Champaign

Had to go to dr so my daughter and I went and we each got one.

The dogfood I buy for my little guy has really jumped in price (Wally World). The last two times I bought a 16# bag, it was $11.32. This AM I checked the price for the same package, and it's now $26.00 and some change! Kibbles and Bits.

A 12 oz bag of cranberries is $2.66 at my local stuffmart.

Despite them saying they were rolling Thanksgiving items back to '21 prices.

Last year a full pound bag was just over a dollar. This year a smaller bag is more than doubled in price.

Dang it. We love fresh cranberry sauce.

Just over 3 months ago I starting working part-time at a local grocery meat/deli.
Our meat prices have been pretty steady and we are lower than Walmart and Kroger, 15-20 miles away.
Supply lines/ producers are getting interesting. We have had to get different suppliers because of it. We have been out of several items already.
Turkeys are supposed to get here between the 17th and 21st. Taking pre-orders.
$4.99/lb fresh and $3.99/lb frozen.

1668031981375.jpeg

What caught my eye this week was a head of lettuce that was $4.69 last week, new order got in and they are now $6.19.
Woman in produce said the price, ours, may be over $8 soon.

One lady bought hamburger for $4.99/lb, and refused to buy any lettuce for it.

Onward Ever Onward, Ya'll!

I wonder if any of these stores with crazy high lettuce prices have self-service salad bars. It might make more financial sense to buy enough for a week or so at the salad bar, than to buy an entire head of lettuce at crazy prices, especially if it doesn't look great. The ones at our grocery store looked dreadful.

You can grow lettuce inside all winter.

Get a BPH free tub, put some good potting mix / soil in it. Get a couple of grow light bulbs from farm and fleet and set them up over your tubs(s).

Plant lettuce seed as instructions on packet.

Place in area where it doesn’t freeze and is protected with the grow lights positioned properly.

Water and watch grow. Harvest as it is ready and replant as needed.

Aw, just look at that sweet little face. He deserves $26.00 a bag dog food. Not that it's any fun for you to pay that. Wow.
