Holly shit another member from the jerz.Did my weekly shopping at my local ShopRite (North Jersey) and spoke to the overnight manager (of the shelf stockers). He said that people seem to be stocking up more than usual, but it has not gotten crazy and they have no shortages of anything yet.
I am now back above 50 pounds of pasta and lots of breakfast cereal for my family.
Would that not be a shortage? I am confused. Here in Titusville, Florida, no shortages and no masks. Hubs and I are stocking up. At our age we take precautions and also enjoy each day that our Lord gives us.
What to stock up on???
Start simple, what things do you use every day? Buy More!
You use Toilet paper everyday? Start there.
Use paper towels every day, that's next
Do you shower, brush your teeth, shampoo your hair? Stock up!
Shave? Wherever? Razors blades
How's your feet? Will AF itch drive you crazy if you don't have AF cream?
Crotch rot? They have a cream for that, get more
For me it's acid reflux. Tried multiple times to stop omeprasole, once as long as six weeks
stomach acid hell without it, it seriously affects impacts my life. I've got a years supply. Kaiser Perm pharmacy sell it for $11.99 for six weeks of pills.
I've lost weight and am now in the 190's range and can go missing a day. But when I was heavier no way could I skip a pill.
This isn't rocket science, buy extra of the things you use everyday.....start there
Next get stuff that without it, your is life miserable.
Well I like a tablespoon of Dill pickle juice if I need a bit more acid to my digestion. But now I use Bragg's Apple Cider vinegar.Double A..... have you tried pickle juice?
I think we have plenty of time. Most shortages you see now will be refilled with the next truck to the store. Real shortages are a month or two away yet.How close do TB members think we are to an outight run on the stores and rioting in the streets?
Just was listening to Fox business and they are really sounding the alarm.
Order noodles and light bulbs... even if they throw them together in the box, they won't hurt either product! (I had them send 6 packages of LED light bulbs and 1 gall9n of Worchestershire sauce in the same box, with two DEFLATED strips of the (usually) air filled pillows for "cushioning". I'm wondering if their entire packing staff is Somali...Went shopping this morning to walmart. N.Ga mountains. No pictures sorry.
Mainly went to WM for just a couple of things both to add to preps and also just to eat normally since I was on that side of town. Looked around while I was there. First the place was busy for 10am on a weekday. This was my normal time going but not always on a friday and it seemed busier then normal. Because it started snowing when I first got there and because I had 6 bags of feed for the chicks in the back of the pickup I didn't stay long even though I threw a blue tarp over them..
Anyway I stopped for just a couple of things. Inside other then 2 different sets of folks I saw with full carts with multiples of the same items no one seemed to be stocking up. I consider someone more likely to be prepping if they buy just a few different items but a quantity of those items. My cart would have reflected this.
My first item was 100w led lightbulbs. I figure since they are sourced from china the supply might dry up and I happen to like them. They had plenty of the 60w size but only 8 packages of the 100's for which I bought 4. These were soft white and not the daylight style I normally buy which is why I only bought 4 packages. So one of the holes on the shelf was for the daylights which were always normally in stock. This was the great value brand, the other fancy name brands were poorly stocked but there at 3 times the price. WM sells what I want on their website but for some reason they are a buck more per package of 4. I'll keep them in mind and use them as filler to hit the $35 dollars needed for free shipping.
Then on to the baking aisle as I wanted cake mix, cookie mix, crumb cake mix and cup cake liners. Got what I wanted at the quantity I wanted as these were all in stock. Strange prep items but what can I say. If anyone else follows and post to this thread about shortages in this area you will know why. However in the same area the normal type flour supplys were low. This is not normal so someone has been stocking up. I have 40lbs of flour in the freezer and several hundred pounds of LDS canned wheat stored plus I own a grinder so I didn't really need any more flour but toward the end of march I might pick up a couple of more bags if the virus continues to progress. Plus my feed store sells wheat which to my eyes looks exactly like what I own to grind for myself and another 50lb bag was one of the bags in the back of my truck.
FYI, atlanta, tucker area, has an LDS store. They shut down to the public whenever there is a crisis but normally they are very welcoming whenever I have gone.
Back to walmart.
While in that area I looked at rice and instant potatoes. This was mostly a drive by but I did pay more attention to the instant potatoes. There was only 1 large bag of rice, balsamic. There were one pound bags of rice from different companies on the shelf but no more then 10 bags for each brand. I didn't really look to closely as I have a good supply of LDS rice in cans. When I eat rice normally I usually use jasmine rice for which I have about 50lbs on hand. The instant rice supplys also seemed low but I never buy that nor pay much attention. For instant potatoes the normal boxes of regular mashed potatoes had a few brand holes where a whole brand slot was empty. And mixed amounts of other brands and sizes so the area seemed to be low on stock. All of the fancy flavors potatoes like betty crocker were in stock. I actually use instant mashed potatoes when I make mashed as I use it to thicken up the water rather then throwing the water away saving nutrients. I only have 1 unopened box left so I need to resupply but I'll buy those off the internet were I can get a multi-pack cheaper then if I buy a bunch of singles at the store. This drive by was mostly because I was interested.
Pasta was next. I wanted to pick up some extra wide egg noodles, gv brand. I've had bad experiences buying this over the internet before mainly due to the way walmart just throws them in a box with whatever else I ordered, meaning they arrive broken. There were no gv x-wide egg noodles at all and only a couple bags of the wide. The whole plain pasta area looked like it had been hit. Plenty of pasta-roni's and hamburger helper's though. So now I need to decide if I want to order 30 bags of my noodles so I can have them be a complete order and maybe not arrive broken. I'll be going back to wm on tuesday so I'll see what things look like then before deciding.
Then canned meat. I had been thinking about buying a case of canned beef. I like beef stroganoff and I figured that canned would work if I was out of fresh beef. There were no cans of Keystone beef at all, just out of stock stickers. Same with the Castleberry brand. No canned beef at all. There were plenty of both single and multi-packs of gv chicken and a few cans of the branded stuff. Tuna looked picked over but there was plenty. So I will be placing my Keystone beef order over the net this afternoon.
Next was peanut butter. Bought 10 jars. All seemed normal.
Looked at the evap milk. I have enough instant milk to last me over a year with my normal cooking so I couldn't decide if I wanted to put away any cans. I passed but there was plenty on the shelf.
Ice cream was last. They were out of the walmart brand chocolate chip cookie dough flavor. So the world must be ending. Load the AR as this is getting real. I'll try again when I am there on tuesday.
I did not look at milk or bread. The normal things that people panic buy. I also did not go over to the area with the health related stuff. I did walk buy the shoe area and there were a lot of empty racks but that might just be a seasonal thing.
As I said I'll be going again on tuesday so I'll try to look at the same areas again to compare.

I love Chewy! Best customer service!Chewy says they still carry it, but I don't know if you want to order online.
I only buy the 5.5 oz cans but I had to go to online ordering because the local stores are always out.
The wife just reported in....she has been watching for shortages....
The top level TP is now gone from Sams in SE Georgia..... the second tier TP that fall apart or are too thin to be of use is still in stock.
Shortages are starting to manifest.
I haven't seen anyone wearing a mask. Sorry for the confusion.Would that not be a shortage? I am confused.

Summerthyme
Talking abt spam. What i do is to put it in a strainer, hold under hot/warm water and squish with my hands until all the salt is out. It's tasteless after that so i think 98% of the salt is washed out. Then we can eat it or feed to the dogs and cats mixed with rice.Went to the local Wallyworld in North Denver this morning.
Got the last of the powdered milk (I use it in baking a lot). Beans - very few, same with rice. I'm going to go over to the local Mexican grocery because I can get 10-lb bags of Anasazi beans there and I prefer those for chili or for refries.
Pretty much cleaned out the honey supply as I'm going to make Summerthyme's Elderberry syrup this weekend as soon as the berries arrive, but the supply was very limited and I bought 2 1/2 gallon and 1 1-gallon jugs, plus I use that in my bread recipes and for hot toddy's. Got a bunch of their frozen vegs to throw in the dehydrator for soup/stew mix and replenished my supply of bags to vacuum pack stuff. Sugar was low, flour was low. Didn't check out the canned meat (I hate Spam) but thought I'd get that at Costco.
One thing I did score on while I was getting the vacuum packer bags - was looking for jelly bags (ended up with cheesecloth) - they had dark brown ball 1/2 gallon jars! Bought 2 packages of those. yayyy for that one.
People had pretty full carts and they were stocking like mad.
Costco later today or this weekend - we'll see how that one goes.

45 minutes NW of Philly...Wegmans fully stocked, I am pretty sure I am the only one who is stocking up. oh well, it means I can keep going back for awhile...or if worst case, thanks to everyone here, we are ready to hunker down.
Lisa
P.S. I do need to make a liquor store run lol
There is no Wegmans down here, but having worked for them for 4 years in Rochester I can tell you you wouldn't believe how coordinated everything is with them. I only once remember them being out of broccoli for several weeks a few years ago when there was some hitch in the broccoli crop. They have a giant distribution center across the road from where I worked. Truck drivers must actually schedule when they are coming in to drop off a load. They source locally and in other countries so it's not likely they're going to run out of anything, so I wouldn't stress. It's freaking Wegmans after all!!!
I did go to the store again today and picked up some more things. Again no frantic crowds and no shortages.
Agreed, but it is building... so what we learn here helps everyone for when it goes Tango Uniform.....I think we have plenty of time. Most shortages you see now will be refilled with the next truck to the store. Real shortages are a month or two away yet.
Look to regional problems at first. Hawaii appears to be the first horse our of the gate, with their run on toilet paper. But have a couple cases in your hometown, and assume the stores will be wiped out.How close do TB members think we are to an outight run on the stores and rioting in the streets?
Just was listening to Fox business and they are really sounding the alarm.
So I went back to Walmart thsi AM as I needed a few things for a video I am doing. I made a point to check out the camp isle, lots of the propane 1 lb bottles were gone, big hole in the shelving, no butane gas either. As for canned goods WOW, it was wiped out, all that Chef Boy Ardee stuff was cleaned out, still a good deal there but I have never seen it that empty. Same goes for the spam and canned chicken area on the shelves. Looks like the sheeple are waking up. Bleach was picked over too. way less than normal. As for OTC Meds the flu meds were pretty low, allergy stuff nearly gone and a few other areas in the first aid section were empty.
lol I grew up in Corning with one of the earliest Wegs (next to Roch) Always loved them. Now, when they run out it will be my "dot" !!
