I was just looking around on amazon, more curious than anything else, not buying for awhile..Prices on things I've ordered in the last few months have skyrocked. That case of tp that I ordered a little while back (for son +4 in case they come my way) has doubled in price. And of course many many things that I have stocked up on are completely out and some saying they don't know if they will ever have them again. I'm so blessed that I'm stocked up. Then there is the little devil that whispers in my ear "what if you can never get some of these things again". Started to go to walmart in my nearest town just to see what's going on, but I had advised DH not to go anywhere and he mentioned that, so I didn't go.

Kinda off topic for this thread, but I'm feeling anxious and I have no reason to be anxious. There is so much I could be doing and I just can't seem to get away from my computer and the tv.

Set a timer and spend some time doing other things so you don't burn out. I'm going to take my own advice in a minute and go work in the backyard.

I knew I was going to run out of something and dh told me yesterday he was out of some automotive carp he uses frequently. I figured if I went to the local auto parts store they probably wouldn't have it, so gritted my teeth and hit Walmart at 6am. I have never seen so many clueless people wondering around in the store, with kids, even at Christmas. I grabbed the stuff he wanted, checked the water, and they amazingly! had some -- so I just got 2 since I figured I'd get to the check out and they'd have limits. They also had ginger ale, first time in months, so I grabbed some of that too. Saw at least 6 people stocking and at least that many CLEANING. There is usually just 2 employees in there that time of morning and all they do is watch the U scans. Paper products were still completely wiped out but they seemed to have at least a little bit of everything else.

Actually, postal prices HAVE changed. A very small box is now $9 (8.70) shipped two hours away.
They have a new product called priority express, (which is what priority was supposed to be), and it’s even higher for 3 day service.

Thought I'd drop in to say that I was just on my meat store's Facebook page, and they say they brought in another truckload of meat yesterday, but after this week, their prices will be going up...this pandemic is making wholesale meat prices skyrocket.. That's the word they used.

I told myself, that I wouldn't go back into town for a while longer. Since I got sent home from work, I figured I would go get some fresh produce and meat. I didn't have to yet, but I figured I wanted to go see what the situation was, and in case I'm stuck here, top off.

Well, I was surprised at the traffic in Bay City, Tx. Not bad, but full on the main drag. I went to the Big HEB store first. Parking lot was full. Actually, most everything was in stock. Produce, Meat, Eggs, Can Goods. Some big holes, and some low stock. I forgot to go check TP aisle. Crowd was quit and polite.

After that, I back tracked to Super Walmart. That place was not crowded at all. Groceries were real scarce. Empty aisles everywhere. No eggs, cheese, TP, meat. There were other empty shelves, but I was not hanging around anymore. Only two pallets of GV drinking water out in front of the empty cheese coolers. I got two cases of 24 bottles each. I did get two small bags of onions that were out at HEB. Plenty of produce in stock. I left there and topped off my gas tank and got home.

P.S. I just got a text from work while I was typing this. It said no decision on coming back to work, and to assume we are off the rest of the week. I'm headed back to the Beaumont area and home in the morning.

Very surreal scene in local grocery stores in my home town (eastern canada). I had stocked up almost two weeks before once I heard there were coronavirus cases outside of China. I knew it was coming. So hearing about the TP shortages from different stores including Costco was not surprising.

I went to my regular grocery store Saturday evening and there must have been a rush on friday. This is one of the larger stores in my city. No toilet paper, no wipes, cleaning supplies nearly wiped, soup almost all gone (except campbells soups for some reason), vegetables nearly wiped, no potatoes, no carrots, cabbages and onions. No frozen veggies either. There were signs all around to limit purchases but that didn't matter.

I went today at mid-afternoon for another run and the store was restocked except for wipes and sanitizer. There wasnt alot of TP but i picked up another pack anyway. Not like its going to spoil. The cashier asked me why i only had one (lol). I did the final provisioning of odds and ends I needed and should be good for 3 or 4 months now. I only have a months worth of beer though so this could be a disaster. Maybe i need to fix that.

What was interesting to note i supposed was that stuff was still on sale (soup on sale? yes please). I think the store chains here may still be thinking its business as usual. Once supply chains get stuffed up I'm betting certain items will skyrocket in price. I know the government is keen on reassuring everyone that grocery stores and pharmacies will stay open but it's the supply chain and bottlenecks I worry about. Make sure you have the things you need for many months to come.

They may be blaming the pandemic, however, out butcher told us back in January that meat prices were set to triple by the end of March. This increase is due to the floods in the Midwest last winter and spring and the issues that happened the year before.

Yeah, they raised a lot of rates (Including flat rate boxes) January 1st. What else is new?!

Given what beef and pork prices have been doing on the futures markets, that makes NO sense! Many small beef producers around here are selling the cows this spring (ourselves included). Just too damned much work for little (or minus) returns. We sentba really nice 4 year old cow for beef... she had a mummy calf the year before and didn't conceive. She was plump and very nice, but only weighed 600# (Dexters aren't very big) and she was a dun color. (Black cows bring more, because they sneak them into Angus loads for the "certified Angus premiums). We got 25 cents a pound... $125. Final check after trucking and commission was $98. Screw it.

However, our son said they've sold more pork and fresh eggs in the last week than they did all last year! Problem is, people will go right back to their cheaper, mass produced alternatives, as soon as the stores are full again.

Dollar General is closing an our sooner starting today. They are limiting certain items to three per customer. And the first hour of business is for older folks and at-risk folks. I don't know how they are going to enforce that last one but it's in writing at the cash registers.

Well, prices in the stores sure don't show that you, Summer, got any break for raising cows.

Do you know how much beef is in the stores? It's crazy. And you didn't get squat.

I can't afford a steak; haven't had one in years now. Or a roast. Pork is only a little behind.

There is a fairly large cattle auction in a nearby town every Wednesday. I go by it on the way to the barn where I keep my horse. I went over to ride today and when I went by there were no trucks delivering cows for the auction and usually there is a bunch.

I asked my trainer about it since he works every sale running cows and he said they cancelled it...not because of the restrictions on social distancing...but because of the market being too unstable for anyone to sell cows. He can't figure it out because everyone has to eat...and the stores are empty.

Pretty strange when right now people are having a hard time finding enough to eat.

Umm thank you for sharing that’s one hell of a dot!

DD stopped at our local Food Lion grocery midday today. She said it was eerily quiet with many empty spaces.

Their truck usually comes Tuesday afternoon for weekly sales starting on Wed. It will be interesting to see how much new stock they actually get.

So where's the beef?

Who's screwing with the cow prices vs the really high prices at the store? Middlemen? I don't get it either.

I'm trying to think outside the box. I'm going to buy soap from a friend who makes it or just make my own. I can buy meat from several different farmers I'm friends with. There are solutions, I'm just trying to think of them.

Damn! I hope my bubble wrap gets here! Folks getting repeat orders may have noticed some, er... "creative" packaging on my part. I'm still unable to order from Amazon... haven't had the patience to try AGAIN to get my account (which was hacked on their end multiple times) running. So my daughter ordered the bubble wrap and labels I needed a couple wweeks ago. Labels came the next day. Bubble wrap never showed... it's "on its way"... sonewhere. Probably coming from China!

So, she reordered for me, and it's supposed to be here shortly (today, I hope!) Minor issue in the general scheme of things, but frustrating as I have a lot of orders that will need to go out in the next few days. I wonder what the Post Office's prices look like?

I put this in the BS but I might as well put this here. Got this yesterday from a management type at my local WM

N.Ga - The walmart in my AO is down from 3 trucks a day to 2. One truck will be food and one truck general merchandise. If any space is available on the 2'nd truck then it will be filled with food. Thats it. No other deliveries from WM for the day. Only the independents like the chip and soda guys. This is going out system wide at least for his classification of store which is rural area. He did not know about larger city, higher volume stores but assumes something similar will be occurring with them also

Supposedly the cattle prices have been dropping a lot the past couple weeks.

Just came back from the local Safeway in North Denver. Why they even bothered to put out a weekly sales ad was a waste of time, paper and delivery (mine comes in the mail).

Looks like a cyclone hit the store. Almost no canned goods, meat, flour, vegetables - you name it - wiped out. Still plenty of chips but not much else.

They had chicken breasts and thighs on sale - but the butcher said they weren't going to have any for 2 or 3 days.

Really? Why bother with an ad? The paper could have been converted into toilet paper, so I think I'll add it to the paper stash as a last ditch resort.

Just came back from WalMart, stunned at the empty shelves, much worse than Saturday. I thought shelves would be restocked by now, every area depleted. There were a lot of stockers working, but folks were grabbing stock as soon as it was opened up. NO TP, meats, canned goods, soups, rice, sugar, flour, its quite startling.

I hope that does not confirm some of the anecdotal observations that urban areas are being prioritized over rural areas.

Keep the cities supplied and relatively calm until we can ( must cover many, many angles) get "resources" In place to handle things WHEN it lights up.

They need time, more time, to get caught up on the supplies in the delivery chain, all while shutting EVERYTHING DOWN.

We haven't seen anything yet.

I am finding myself looking at goodies at home thinking "I shouldn't have that diet Pepi save it for another day" I wish I could convince the others to save the goodies. We have been so blessed in our nation. Choice after choice after choice....I have been in a lot of communist countries and saw their grocery stores. Our nation is in for a HARD adjustment
