I keep a gallon in the freezer but it turns out chalky and kind of nasty using skim. I’ll drink 2% but hub won’t because of the fat. I think he’d drink any milk if that’s all we had though... but anyway, yeah, mom always kept gallons in the extra freezer when we were kids. I never noticed it being weird !

But the last time I thawed out milk it had to be shook up every time we took it out to use. Almost like it had separated. Hub thought it was too gross, but he used it.

I freeze half gallons of Braum's whole milk.

Haven't noticed anything different in the taste & texture.

Went by Walmart this morning to pick up a couple cases of water. Figured I'd grab some frozen green beans since Sam's Club didn't have any yesterday. What a shocker on the frozen veggie aisle! Empty...like a few things, then a 4 foot section of a few and I mean 10-12 pkgs, then another 4 foot section of empty, then a few more items.

There were 15 bags of green beans sitting on an other wise empty shelf. I grabbed 5 of them.

I never saw the frozen veggies that empty ever even back at the beginning of shutdown.

Also noticed on the way to the checkouts that the tp and paper towel aisle was empty down about half the way on both sides, then there was some product. Way more empty than it has been for quite some time.

Really upset about the green bean and veggie situation....since the deer ate my green beans down to the dirt this year in my garden. :(

Walmart, rural Louisiana...can food aisle is sparse. Mostly green beans but there are items and varieties that I've never seen around here before. Saw a can of cabbage...never seen that in my life. Many bare spaces. The breakfast cereals were spread out over two aisles I believe to just fill in gaps. Lots of randomness throughout the food section. #10 cans of an odd brand of veggies, a strangely placed block of Great Value pancake syrup. Just looked random.

Costco in West Texas was well stocked. Some cleaners still out of stock but I saw lysol and toilet bowl cleaners in other shoppers carts . Flour rice beans pasta all good. Some canned veggies were in big restaurant cans but they did have2 varieties of canned tomatoes. Overall, meat selection might have been little light.
Did notice they had very few bath rugs and towels. And traffic seemed very light. No lines.

went by a Publix in South Florida this morning

it looked almost back to normal - I hadn't seen this many paper goods since Feb / March - lots of paper towels, toilet tissue, facial tissues. Mostly P+G brands, very little no-name or funny name stuff. They were a bit weak on some of the speciality items, such as those fancy paper napkins that the DW likes when we have company (remember those days?)

the cleaner / detergent aisle was also better than it had been but not perfect yet - did pick up some Fantastic cleaner, just because they had it for the first time in months

I haven't been in Sams for a few weeks...I read your reports, but haven't really seen gaps around here...until today.

Roanoke, VA, Sams, empty spaces. Poor, poor qty of produce, gaps in the milk/butter case, out of my favorite paper towels. Bought 4 bottles generic allegra and 4 D3@5k whatevers.

Celery Seed, Mustard Seed, and Peppercorns are in short supply right now, unless you know where to shop. I stocked up in April and have enough for two possibly three years now since I buy at the Indian grocery store and they sell those spices in large packages, also bought a one-pound package of cinnamon sticks for a great price. Forgot to buy vanilla beans though, which are through the roof price wise now.

People are bitching in the canning list over on Facebook because they cannot find any of those spices for making pickles.

What I really really need is a contact who goes to India frequently.... Why. you ask? Because the paprika from there is to die for! One of the guys I used to work with brought us back paprika (apparently his family and hers grow it). Then it's fried and ground. I got the medium (they have mild, hot, and medium) - never buy store bought again after that - including the Hungarian. About out and we've been using it sparingly.

As far as spices go - I have 3 very large shelves full of strange and wonderful things that I use a lot, like sumac, za'atar and the normal stuff.

Love the Indian grocery stores, the Mexican ones, the Korean and Vietnamese ones - stuff is dirt cheap! Fortunately I have all 4 fairly close.

Went to Walmart today for the first time this year.
Many many empty spots all around the store. Food was no worse than other areas. Wife and I expected to buy several hundred dollars worth of stuff as long as we were there. We only spent $100. The store had almost nothing we wanted.
I never wore a mask and I noticed several others without masks. About a third of the workers had their masks pulled down.

There’s probably a correlation between these two. Slovenly lazy workers that won’t stock the shelves probably also care little for the health of their fellow man.......

Walmart.com has 70% alcohol,a 2 pack for $3.92.
Thanks! Love walmart. com, didn't think to check there. Luckily I'm not totally out because I had some extra stashed. Thank you preppers :D

It's odd to me that rubbing alcohol is so scarce when there is tons of hand sanitizer everywhere I look right now. Then again, nothing much makes sense to me these days.

As one of those SLOVENLY workers let me give you our take. Management allows the public to come in without a mask, allowing them to take it off the second they are through the door, allowing people who are coughing up a lung, and not enforcing one protocol afraid that the almighty customers may be offended and shop elsewhere caring not for a second about their employees. Who are overworked due to shortages of labor. I could make $200.00 more dollars a week being unemployed. Oh and the Covid bonus they brag about their employees getting they cut your hours 6-8 a week for 3 weeks to pay for it. Oh and the attitude and way the customers treat us we are at the fatalistic point of we know we are going to get it now one will do anything for us the customers don’t care and it’s really hard to wear and work in a mask for 8 hours as opposed to shopping for 30 minutes.

Workhorse, the few times I've been shopping the last several months, I have asked for help bringing my cart out to my vehicle. I usually do need help, but even if I don't, I ask anyway so I can get one of the workers outside and I tell them to pull their mask down and take a bunch of clean free breaths before they have to go back inside. Sometimes they do it and sometimes they don't.

I'm afraid that if I saw a customer abusing, scolding an employee, I'd have to call them on it, even if I might have to defend myself with my deadly cane (: (:

You have my sympathy and admiration. Keeping things up and running for the rest of us is above and beyond the call of duty. I have an extra N-100 respirator mask in my preps if you think it would help. I personally cant breathe in any of them so just stay home or in the truck.

Beef, chicken, and egg prices are actually coming down again here at the moment. Seeing choice sirloin @ $3.99/lb, chuck roasts for $1.99/lb, and lge eggs @.$1.29 for 18 ct - at Albertsons no less. Boneless skinless chicken breast packs were $1.49/lb, but I don't buy that since it's cheaper by far for me to buy whole chickens and break them down myself then pack them up by portioned parts.

Local farm & garden chain (D&B Supply) has qt size canning jars @ $9.99/dz so am going out to get some more today to have on hand and might can some chunks of chuck roast up after I see how many I can squeeze into the freezer. Canned beef is second best to frozen IMHO, but then again it's tender, produces its own broth for making gravy from, and is awfully convenient to use with mashed potatoes, or over rice or noodles - and it's a whole lot less expensive for me to can it myself instead of buying those small cans from Walmart you folks are so fond of. Besides, this way I control the freshness, quality of the meat input and sodium level too.

Those prices are a real shock! I guess it is just CA residents that are getting it put to us. On diesel fuel also.

Nope, as far as I know there isn't a specific brand - and I can't find the email where he told me what part of India they were from. He also told me that the stuff available here in the Indian grocery stores is definitely inferior. Might have to make do with what I can find.

I wondered the same thing while shopping this morning, Tiredude. Bought 4 10 oz. Valley Fresh natural chicken for $1.99 each..........I can opt for 4 cans of Dinty Moore beef stew.......how does it taste???

Day by day
We actually like Dinty Moore beef stew (if no homemade on hand). DH puts his over bread, I actually prefer mine over mashed potatoes (even though it does have some potatoes).

Dinty Moore is not bad, a little salty and the vegs are over done, but what the heck? Used to buy it for the hubby during hunting season and he loved it.

Amen to that on the price! He scored 20 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast at the grocery store last night for 99 cents a pound, I'll be cubing it and then canning it up Saturday morning along with 20 pounds of cooked ground beef which is also lovely over noodles, rice, mashed potatoes, turned into sloppy joes, tacos, taco salad, burritos, pizza topping, so on and so forth!

Over piping hot biscuits... alas I cannot eat anymore because it contains potatoes.

I don't ever wear a stupid mask. They do nothing. If any store asks me to wear a mask or leave I would leave instantly with no remarks. It is their store. There is no store I must go in to survive.
I freely admit I care very little for my fellow man. The mask has nothing to do with that. You can buy the media propaganda if you want but I will not.

Dinty Moore beef stew seems to be gluten-free because I can eat it with no issues. I have a bunch in our storeroom.

Price increases are getting dramatic. A few years ago I was averaging $80 a week just for myself. As of January I was averaging $100 a week and today it was $140. I pretty much get the same stuff every week. Hard cheese was up $1.00 lb over last week and I had to buy two twelve count of eggs as there were no 18 counts on the shelf. I paid $20 for 8 preformed fresh meat burgers for the grill etc. Yeah, I know there are ways to save money on all of that but that isn’t the point. I really don’t change my habits from week to week but pricing inflation is measurable just about weekly now.

I just want to let you know how much I appreciate all you do to keep supplies stocked and the risks you take being exposed to so many people who aren't considerate of that risk. It would be hard to wear a mask all day while doing physical labor. I have to restock my antique booth a few times a month and am there 4 or 5 hours in a mask so I know a little of what you are going through and it's not fun...can't imagine day in and day out.

The most comfortable mask I've worn is one I got in the pharmacy section at WM. It's for allergies and looks like surgical mask but is kind of quilted feeling instead of that slick texture the others have. It doesn't get as hot or damp and it fits well.

I consider the WM employees front line workers and can't believe everyone is not as grateful as DH and I are that there are people willing to put themselves out there so I can get the things I need for my family. Every time I go to stock my booth, I make a point to thank whoever is standing behind that counter for being there so I can make a little bit of money.
