I won't go into the store to shop. I do curbside pickup or online. Last week I ordered a 4 pack or Kroger green beans for $2.19 and got 4 single cans of Green Giant for the same price.

I don't know everything coming our way but I don't have good feelings about it. I continue to add to my preps every shopping trip. A pack of TP or extra canned goods, an extra shampoo- it all adds up. I have a good stock right now. We would not last for a year but maybe several months, 3-4 months. Do what you can as you can. God bless everyone.

NO Hormel canned hot tamales. I cannot find them anywhere, not even on Amazon.

Glad I ordered 10 cans when I could get them from Amazon last month.

Going to the local Wally tomorrow, will let you know what I find after I get back and maybe the smaller Costco either tomorrow or Wednesday.

if they're still on the shelf at the local grocery store and if so I'll buy them and ship them to you.

had to make other trip into ASSville earlier today . . . pleasantly surprised at the SCAMS KLUB . . .

entry at 9:15 . . . a much better selection of paper goods - the back wall was FULL of TP and paper towels - name brands at that - limit ONE EACH/member. meat case was a bit low - strips modestly present as was chuck, flank and stew beef. NO rib eye to be seen, but ground beef a plenty - I even scored a package of 1/4lb 90/10 ground beef patties ($3.78/lb) . . . one of the THREE that was there. that was big because I haven't seen ANY of those since the plandenmic hit. chicken was modestly present - but still no whole chickens to be had bacon, sausage, ham steaks a plenty. LOTS of salmon. some Tuna and Tilapia, but no Catfish to be found. plenty of packaged sliced cheese - any kind you wanted. produce was in much better condition than last week but the date range was narrower than typical.

interestingly seasonings and spices continued to be pretty well picked through . . . lots of rice and beans to be had . . . hope that was helpful.

I mentioned several months ago to stock up on these items as most of it comes from India or China these days, even oregano. Tone's seasonings is dang near in my backyard as is Ameriherb and they procure from overseas, if they're not getting resupplied in a timely manner then holes will start appearing, and in some cases prices will double or triple is what I've noticed. Cinnamon and vanilla beans are becoming harder to find.

Went to the local Wally this morning for a few (yeah sort of) things. Produce in pretty bad shape even though they were trying to stock while I was there. Potatoes very low, onions almost out, did have mushrooms which I need for the spaghetti sauce.

Meat was sad.... almost no beef (and what they had was pricey), quite a bit of pork, chicken was low. Needed some lard, Crisco Oil and Crisco Shortening - the vinegar was almost wiped out, got the last one of two of Heinz (I don't trust the Great Value brand), and they finally had some yeast - count 'em 3 jars of Fleishmans and some of the individual packets. Flour still very very low. Also got canning/pickling salt plus more Kosher Salt and those were both pretty low as well.

Canned meat pretty full, but still no Spam - and they had a ton of Hormel Chili, but no tamales (glad I got mine last month from Amazon).

Son really likes Mtn Dew Code Red, but only available in 2-liter bottles (plastic shortage I guess). Shelves are still spotty with large holes.

I did notice empty spaces at my nearest walmart yesterday, more in the canned vegetable isles, other than papertowels, although they did have large packages of bounty, I did not buy any. We might use one roll a month and that's more for a napkin. I do have napkins but I prefer a paper towel. I bought some large containers of garlic and onion powder. For sure they will get repacked in jars and vacuum sealed, that stuff gets hard as a rock over time. Walmart did not have the larger size of italian seasoning so I ordered a large one from the river. I do have a pretty good stash of seasonings.

No bags of beans in my commodites yesterday and no rice either, but the store did have them.
Walmart was really short on their brand of canned soda, like none. Dh does not get it on why I keep buying it. No gallon water that I like, but they did have great value cases of water, not completely stocked but no limit on what they did have.

God is good, all the time.

I did my grocery shopping last Wednesday. I went to three different places. No shortages or limits on anything, except at Sam's. They were pretty well stocked, but had a few blank spaces. They didn't even have a space designated for Spam anymore. I can't remember what the other blank spaces held. It wasn't anything I needed, though.

If you have any farm supply stores in the area, try there. Ours have 4 -6 pallets full of jars near the front, as well as long shelves of lids and other canning equipment. (I'm in Central Iowa)

Theisens, Bomgaars, Orschliens, and Ace Hardware in my area are out of lids... apparently folks from the big cities (think suburbs here) have been hitting the local stores for canning supplies and the run on lids has been strong. Now there are limits signs up in these places. I'm in an FB canning group and about a week or so ago someone mentioned that there are no canning lids to be found anywhere and that the prices on Amazon had tripled, mind you there are 1.5+ million members in this group, and damn if a run didn't happen within a few hours. I saw her post and within 2 hours Berlin Packaging was out of lids as were other online places. Yes I managed to place an order to replace what I have used already this year. Have used close to a hundred lids in the past four days alone.

It depends. The local grocery store here (N MN) carries them year-round and they have consistently been in stock.
Other places like Walmart, Menards, Fleet Farm, they are more seasonal. So far, I haven't had a problem, though I do like to stay ahead.

Neither here nor there.
Fleet Farm, Tractor Supply (Ankeny), and Theisens (Indianola) had both regular and wide-mouth lids on Friday -- I helped a lady rebuild her canning supplies.

Good to know. I placed a large order with Berlin Packaging and was able to replace what I've used so far plus some.

We went to a Sam's yesterday. First time since January. They had rearranged the store so it was hard to tell if they were short on items or where they were. Meat selection was great and priced better than anywhere else. Been packaging into smaller portions for us all morning. Goes into the freezer for later. The one thing we really wanted was white vinegar. None to be had. With canning season coming that needs to be topped off. Also noticed the 3 liter jug of Members Mark Virgin Olive was not to be found. Two completely empty spaces. There were a few others like that but I don't know what was suppose to be in them.

May 5th, I purchased 36 dozen or 432 regular Ball lids for $219.99 from Amazon. Today I see their “case” lot is 30 dozen or 360 lids for $239.99. Get them while you can

Laughing here. I decided to try out the various shipping options for staples..mostly canned, so ordered butter beans, chickpeas, canned pasta sauce, mixed veg, etc. from Target to be shipped to the door. As a test, I also ordered 4 jars of pickled beets. Figured if they made it here in one piece, the boxes would either have had to be packed well, or handled well.

Haha! Just got email notices that (strangely) the box with the jarred pickled beets and various other cans was returned to the shipper because of damage, (could it be a bleeding red beet mess?) and I have been credited with the return, plus given a discount code for a next order.

So much for THAT little experiment.

Regarding the canned tamales ~ La Preferida makes them, too ~ I find them just as good or better than Hormel's. I can readily find these at my local grocery stores. You may be able to order them.

I order glass jars from Vitacost and they pad theirs really well. They even wrap the cans. All in all their packaging is better than anyone else.

Just remembered, I went to walmart in Omaha last week, they had a entire row of shelves with canning stuff, cases of jars. a lot of cases of lids, and quite a few canners, and all the gizmos you need to do it , even Ball canniing books,

I went to 3 Amish bulk stores yesterday that I try to get to a couple times a year about 80 miles from where I live. 2 of them sell discount groceries as well. Last time I was there was in Feb. Normally they are stocked to the max. with the discount stuff. I didn't expect them to be this time, and I was right. Now the shelves were stocked with buy it somewhere and resell. Not the normal cut rate prices. They have frozen food and they had the same good deals there ( my freezers are full so didn't partake in those buys)
One of the stores still had some deals on canned stuff, so stocked up on some of that. They also had good buys on the big institutional cans, but those are to big for me to deal with repackaging.
Bulk food and spices were still full. No shortages in spices that they repack into the cute little Tupperware knockoff containers. Lots of flour of all kinds, beans, rice, yeast. Not hardly any people at any of them, which at one is unusual because it is always real busy.

I've ordered (several times now) grocery items in glass jars/bottles from Walmart.com and every single one made it in perfect shape. I was shocked by how well they pack their boxes. Very surprised by the apparent care that was taken.

Costco’s hasn’t had Kirkland tuna for 3 weeks. Again, no canned veggies other than canned mushrooms and diced tomatoes. Been buying 25lb bags of Jasmine rice every time we go there. Just filled two 5 gallon pails adding Ox absorbers. Planning to buy 3 more for 150 lbs of rice stored. Need more beans. Buying like crazy after adding more prep room in our house. Plans for more canned meat, chicken, tuna, sardines, spam,Vienna sausages. Need to hit Kroger’s for more canned stuff as Costco’s has been out for over a month.

So far 4 months of stored water ( still adding to that). Have 5-6 months of toilet paper and paper towell.

Making at least 2 runs weekly as limits make it hard to do in one trip.

Anyone going to Costco stores - have you seen any of their Kirkland brand sliced peaches in the glass jars? We're getting low, and before I head to a Costco I'm hoping they are in stock somewhere.....gives me hope that they'll be in our Costco (which is several hours round trip for us).

Year or so ago I used to buy peaches in glass jar at Walmart. Don't remember the brand, but they were delicious. You may be able to find some there.

Canning jars life.

Several years ago I was in Lancaster PA at the home of an Amish friend of ours, I was in the kitchen with his Mom and she was canning....... water bath..she was using all kinds of jars....any kind of the grocery store.ones ....little ones that would olives ie......etc. they were not jars that would accept reg or wide mouth lids. She was using the original lids that they came with....I was blown away...they were sealing. She said she had done it that way for years. At that time she did not have a pressure canned and she used the old boiling times for low acid.... Hard to find a chart for that these days.

I had 2 American canners......at that time and an old man had given me a ton of canning jars....so gave her jars and a canner. But she had done that way for years and had many heathy children.
Not making any recommendations..but just reporting what I saw.
If all else failed I guess I would try it her way.

I did find one brand in glass jars at WalMart, and bought one. I haven't even tried it since I looked at the fine print. Brand is Polar, product of China...ugh. Thanks, though!
