BACKGROUND: In August 2017, Royal Australian Air Force fitters and mechanics were carrying out maintenance on an Aircraft Arrestor System in Townsville, QLD. A BAK-12 unit (some 3,500kg) fell off the truck and onto a Corporal, severing one leg and almost the other. After the event investigations noted a bad culture of "gotta get it done now no matter what" in the management of the section. Inside information says the injured man has recovered and is doing well and in good spirits, albeit with only one leg.
