Question Re. Avian Flu

If one contracts Avian Flu H5N1, and is treated with Tamiflu and recovers, is he then immune to it?

Probably a dumb question, but I had to ask.

TIA,
Larry

I asked my husband The Doctor that same question yesterday and the answer is YES. ;)

BTW, I've had no trouble ordering Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) from Masters Marketing. Haven't RECEIVED it yet but they processed the order and said it would ship in 2-3 days. Of course, used hubby's name and title and that's all it took - no questions asked.

A partial response from our former Resident Expert on these matters in response to my question re. his/her personal strategy:

"I haven't & won't purchase Tamiflu. Frankly in terms of treatment, I don't think it's worth the very short average reduction in illness & severity."

" I couldn't begin to afford even one prophylactic course & I suspect that H5N1 will mutate right around the antivirals in no time flat once it goes postal
."

While at the drug store today, I asked my pharmacist if they had any Tamiflu.
He said "sure we have tons of it"

After both he and pharmacist assistant looked, they found not one dose. Said it must have been sent back to their distribution center. When in stock he said it cost $91/dose (10 tablets, 750mg each.)

The above quotes are out of context but represent the essence of reply. Others have differing positions re. this issue.

I'm sorry if this is thread drift, but I have a hard time with people saying that they can't afford Tamiflu. I got mine from a Canadian online pharamacy and paid about $10 per pill. The recommended course of treatment is 2 pills a day for 8 days. That comes to $160 dollars per family member. If your spouse or kid isn't worth $160 to you then there is something wrong with your priorities.
