packyderms_wife

Neither here nor there.
In conjunction with the thread on the cork board about the noro virus here’s your PSA for spring cleaning. A rag and some rubbing alcohol is all you need. Things you need to clean:

Remote controls
Cell phones
Phones
Tablets and laptops
Keyboards
Hair brushes and combs
Toothbrush... pitch it and replace it with a new one,
Keys
Cpap/bipap/apap machines hose, mask, change filter, wash humidifier tub and housing unit, and and gaskets inside the humidifier unit.

Backpacks
Handbags
Wallets

The microwave I think goes without saying!
Door knobs
Countertops
Appliance handles

The bathroom, hit that sucker with bleach!
Water pick and or electric toothbrush, ummm yeah so gross just toss it.

While you’re at it back up all electric devices.

While you're at it- deep clean the Keurig coffee maker, Ice Tea maker, anything with tubes. Those get filthy gross.

Knobs and buttons, car door handles, the steering wheel, and shifter get some alcohol, too.

Over acheivers can clean pet beds and upholstery.

Checked everything plus more. New BOB in the works …I love spring. Days are longer than nights and every day sees more snow receding :)

I'm doing an unintended deep clean here- about 2 aggrevations from calling for a dumpster and a few doods to haul it ALL away. :gaah:

Good Lord gave me my first ever case of pantry moths a few months back, so I got to unpack, clean, inventory and repack all the upstairs pantries: a 2x10x10 foot bank of freestanding cabinets, couple of antique hooiser cabs, and the 60sf walk in pantry...

I found the silver lining, as I am wont to do, and thought how lucky I was to be forced to pay such attention to the storage systems and inventory on hand... but since then the good lord blessed me with a water leak soaking the underlayment pad, and undoubtedly going to involve once again unpacking every bit of food, and food production storage too, and moving it in order to replace flooring. So, I'm still looking for the silver here- and wondering iffin the good lord mighta fergot he'd already blessed me plenty- maybe he has long covid or something else on his mind? :: shrug ::

I second the cleaning the gross tubes. Dangerously disgusting. Also get a can or three o' the good calk and armour your castle against the spring ants, snakes and spiders that will come to visit. Don't forget to vac out those registers and soak the covers, either.

Uhhh…. Where’s Hazel when you need her?

Yes you can still buy witch hazel, I got my bottle at Walmart it was next to the aloe.

Ear buds, ear phones, and video gaming equipment!
Oh good. I'm gonna look. Like it a lot. Haven't used in many years. I like to clean with a spray bottle of watered down bleach. Alcohol is my second choice. I like the smell of Lysol too, but I read that if a pet walks on a wet Lysol floor and then licks it's paws it can have kidney or liver damage (forget which) and die. Same thing with Swifter I read.

Spring, what's that?? Our current forecast is 24 inches of snow with 50 mph winds. We live in an area that always gets more than the rest. We still have a foot of snow in our front yard. Our idea of spring cleaning is cleaning snow off the steps, walk and driveway. A rag and alcohol won't do a whole lot with that.

To some extent, it doesn't matter what you use or even the routine. The important thing is to deep clean periodically (or pay someone to do it). In Iowa, it pays to keep the furnace filters changed and get out all of the dust at least every six months. The house will be healthier!

And I will go the opposite. We have already hit 100° plus weather and have 2 more 100° days this week. I think we had a day or two of Spring a while back. Definitely no snow here, unfortunately no rain anytime soon either.

Ok, I read upstream that Lysol was harmful to dogs. Does that mean I can't use Lysol spray in my house? I always keep my house sprayed down with it. I'll stop if it's harming my fur baby.

ETA. Yes. Lysol is harmful to pets. I googled it. Causes liver damage.

From reading this thread, BTW, thank you, Packy, I see that I need to go through my house, and get rid of a lot of my cleaning products. After reading about the Lysol being harmful to pets, I continued to look at other cleaning products. Many that we use on a regular basis are also harmful. I think I'll stick with rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and white vinegar from now on.

Febreeze and Glade are also harmful.

And that Swiffer stuff for the floors.

Yeah, that, too. I use water and white vinegar on my floors. Never use those Swifter thingies. I have been using PineSol, Lysol, and Clorox to clean with, though. I would never knowingly use anything to harm my dog, so I'm going to be doing a cleaning product overhaul. I do have a good stock of alcohol, peroxide, and vinegar.

I don’t use Lysol because I can’t breathe after I use it. I am pretty sure it’s not very good for either us or our fur babies.

And I kill anyone who uses a Clorox wipe in my vicinity. Had a coworker who had this problem also. Of course, they were using the industrial strength. Coworker finally had to threaten with lawsuit to make management listen and make them stop using them around her. I personally used the stink eye and told them in no uncertain terms about both the Lysol and wipes. Some would do it for meanness (heard them talking about coworker a couple of times).

Anyway, I don’t think the spray does a heck of a lot of good anyway unless you spray enough that you’d have to ventilate your house while spraying.

I can take a regular Clorox wipe and wipe down door knobs, but I have to hold my breath and move fast. I’d rather use alcohol or something.
