TRANS Proper pulling over for traffic stop

So we don't pull to the right and stop whenever lights and sirens are running? What if he was going to an emergency? What you are suggesting is NOT LEGAL. Pull your vehicle over!
Oh please use common sense. Yes, you always pull to the right and out of the way. Whether you pull completely over depends on the laws in your state.

But if you determine that you are the one that the cop is racing to, and that the cop wants you to pull over, you have the right to do so in a safe place. And because of idgits who occasionally pop up pretending to be cops, and sometimes just because of bad cops, there are steps in place to do so. Also because sometimes you are in a location that is just not safe to pull over. Those do exist. I have broken down in a few spots like that. Spots that even spooked the cops that found me waiting for a tow. Spots where we actually moved away from my vehicle because it was safer, which is saying a lot when you consider my son.

in those cases, you follow the steps I described. They were taught to everyone in my driving class. They are still taught in driving classes. And a family member, who is a cop, says that they are still guided by that.

But you must communicate. And the "safe" spot cannot be miles and miles away. (Trying to drive all the way home is just stupid and asking to get yourself in trouble.) So basically, the nearest gas station or mall, place with people.

I wouldn't do that job for multiple millions of dollars.

Rural area - out in the counties, often there are no back-up units within an hour's drive. I don't like this pit maneuver simply because people do get killed. The woman could as well had a carload of unsecured kids with her. It also puts the officer in danger, as it doesn't always work out well for them either.

Solution? I dunno. Get the plate number, inform the municipalities in the area and try to keep up until you have help.

Perps? Stop when the cops tell ya, or risk getting somebody else and yourself killed.

Clueless idiots on the road when a cop comes on you with lights and sirens? Pay attention, move over and stop.
As I mention on another thread, a disproportionate number are A. Black B. Driving stolen, carrying drugs, have heavy warrants. C. Are just plain stupid. Really good chance you’ll get arrested, and your precious car, or dad’s or mom’s, will get damaged or totaled. IF you have insurance, I doubt it will pay for it.

I remember being told in driving school. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
Unless you’re a SovCit. Then it’s a constitutionally protected right, and you don’t need a license, registration, or insurance.
Don’t see them pitted too often. Difference is, high speed pursuits involve perps that know they’re doing bad and don’t want to talk to the cops. SovCits are so cocksure they are right they are actually trolling to be pulled over. They display bogus plates, or none, they set up the camera as the cop comes to the window, recording their stupidity for their dozen subscribers. They thrive on losing the argument, getting cited or arrested. Repeatedly warned they will be removed from the car, scream like a little girl when the window is broken. They are mentally ill. Watching these is a guilty pleasure.

This lever of force falls outside the legal limits of any pursuit policy that
I've read or even heard about. Many depts in IA & MN will not allow
an officer to even pursue a motorist at high speeds for a simple ten over ticket.
Follow them at a safe speed, yes, try to get a license plate number and contact the
motorist another way, but even that has limits.

If the officer believes that the motorist has committed a felony, yes, the pursuit in on.

Yes, this woman is crazy, but to crash a vehicle, endangering lives, and damage another one
makes no sense for a ten over violation.

Apparently they do things differently in Arkansas.

I remember a motorist that was speeding, not dangerous so, with the four-way flashers on.
I activated the red lights, but the motorist refused to stop. I was curious as I followed this
motorist. As we approached the area of a hospital, with the motorist pulling up to the ER
entrance, I noticed an older lady get out and quickly open a back door where her husband
was lying down in the back seat. She was quickly met by hospital staff, she yelled at me
that I could write her a ticket but she had to get her husband into the hospital, I simply left.
(yes, we do have great ambulance services in the area, but people will always make unexpected
choices in life)

I remember another incident, late at night, where an oncoming motorist refused to dim
the bright headlights on their car. I made a u-turn and tried to catch up with this motorist
who was now driving extremely fast. As I closed the gap between us and we were now close
to another community, I activated the red lights, this motorist then dynamited the brakes.
I had to brake really hard also. We stopped near a very well lite Kwik Trip.
As I approached the lone young female driver, who was scared and yelled out that she
was so glad that it was me and not some crazy person following her because she
forgot to dim her headlights. Not much I can do but leave without writing anything.

Anyway, Arkansas has some catching up to do with their policies.
I can't believe that the people of Arkansas allow this behavior from their police?????

Yes, when I see red lights, turn signals on, pull over and stop, that 4-ways when stopped, in a safe
area of course.

Turn on your flashers. Call 911 and inform them that you have an officer behind you, that you are going to pull over at a gas station off the next off ramp. Or whatever the closest "safe" place is. And it will need to be close.

But don't just keep driving unless you want this to happen.
Then you'll be ticketed for using your phone while driving! :)

A little harsh using the pit so quickly! Seems like getting some road spikes in position would have been a better order? You never know though! I've seen low speed pursuits turn into real cluster f***s!

Need to get cars positioned ahead on possible exits. They can still drive for some time.

Trooper gets his retirement.....................
I hope the driver of the car that was pitted sues the vile scum trooper into the poor house. Trooper should be brought up on aggravated assault and attempted murder charges. No bail and put him general population. Pigs get away with way to much and they need to personally pay.

You realize that many of these turn into reckless, running red light, fifty over, wrong way, tickets.
They have to be stopped. Perhaps Arkansas and Georgia have a specific set of criminals.

I am not a "SovCit" as you put it, but do agree with some of what they say. I hate having to ask permission and pay for a privilege from the government.

Why should a person have to a license to operate a private vehicle on a public road funded with tax payer money?

Why do license plates even exist? They don't do anything but provide a good way to track people and revenue generation. A person should not need a permission slip to operate a vehicle on a public road.

My favorite is when the government violates their own rules and the CITIZEN is the bad guy for trying to fight it. Been there and done that.

So yeah I can understand where the "SovCit" are coming from. Heck I hope a lot more pop up around the country

Once I got pulled over and was on a busy street. I put on my emergency flashers and pulled into a residential neighborhood a couple of blocks down. At first the officer was mad, wanted to know why I didn't stop immediately. Once I explained that I was concerned about him getting out of his car on a busy street and was just trying to find a safer spot for him he relaxed. Let me go with a warning. But it was only a couple of blocks.
As soon as a cop lights me up I pull over. I don't care where it is or what traffic I am blocking. The cop decides when and where to light me up. If he/she doesn't like the surroundings or is worried about his/her safety then that is my not problem. I have been told by multiple police officers that they control the stop and interaction. If the cop is to stupid ( then again these people are cops) to think it out and is scared or gets hurt then to bad so sad. I was doing exactly what I was told

Many of these violations only occur because they are being chased by the police.
Yes, these criminals have to be stopped, but at what cost to life and property.
I don't make policy, just follow it. I also been retired from that line of work for eleven years
now.

From 1980-1985, I or with another officer made some 300 drunk driving arrest and countless
other arrest and violations. Some people, even my own co-workers, thought that I was going overboard.

After a point, I fine tuned my thinking.

Up here, it's common knowledge that people from the South are far more friendly, but their
police are far more likely to kill you and that they are poorly paid.

Watch the video, she was misinformed as to her rights and duties. Seems like we should all have a refresher course on rules of the road.
Starting with the cops themselves. In my AO they are the ones breaking traffic laws. Speeding and tail gaiting. Illegal U-turns. The list goes on

This society is out of control... the anarchist, drug dealers, thieves, child phuckers, junkies have no understanding that the cops they hate so badly are the only thing keeping them safe and alive.....

John Law is a true believer in a legal system that needs to be cast aside.... slowly John Law will awaken from his slumber... he just needs to see a few more of his compatriots killed and maimed by the vermin...

There is a growing segment of society that realizes the vermin need to go into a ditch before any semblance of civility can be resurrected from the ashes....

Eventually the vermin will be hunted like feral swine....
Cops seem out of control as well and have been for a long time. I have dealt with my share of jack booted thugs

Why don’t you start your own YouTube channel? “Getting arrested and have your car towed for fun and profit”?
Start here

I agree with you. I was young and much nicer back then. Now I would do the same as you.

My niece moved to Tennessee a few years ago. Towing her car behind the Uhaul. There were three in the truck, so they took turns in the car. Yes, while being towed. That’s not why she was arrested, though. I warned before she left that her CA medical pot card was not recognized in other states, especially where she was traveling. So, she was looking thru her purse while driving, one of the south’s finest pulled her over, probably smelled it, the rest is predictable. Jail or fine, got her mother to send several thousand, because she can’t go to jail!
Entitled Socialist, didn’t listen to me. Oh, half black. The dumb half.

Kinda have to do that to catch the perps. At least they have the red-n-blinkies.
Then the cops should but put their lights and/or sirens on. Until then they are just another vehicle on the road with no special exemptions to the law.

In my AO, cops break traffic laws without their lights and nothing is done to them. I just about T-boned a cop car on my motorcycle once. The cop did a uturn and didn't stop and look as he was turning. I locked up the brakes on my motorcycle and came within a few feet of hitting his drivers side door. He then took off and turned his lights and siren on. What would have happened if roles were reversed. I would have been ticketed hard.

So cops can break what laws they want and very little is done to them

Hate to say it but some people are just oblivious.
That said cop was an idiot.
Speed was fairly consistent, nothing indicating they were trying to run per say
So let's cause an accident.
Great idea.

Should have never cuffed her and stuffed her in a car till emts had a look at her as well.

All kinds of injuries could be present.
Yes some cops are emts but nothing was done to even look her over.

Post in thread 'How Savage Are Blacks In America & Why Is Everyone Afraid To Discuss It?'
https://www.timebomb2000.com/xf/ind...yone-afraid-to-discuss-it.503325/post-9947820
Are you unaware of this thread?
I am aware of that thread and think it is very racist.

Black people do stupid stuff. Guess what, so do all other races, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc. People of all races do things that are all considered stupid and criminal.

Calling out people just because they are black and not including other races to me is racist

Saying "black and stupid" seems like a racist statement
