what is a scuppernong? If it wasn't for my friend giving me tomatoes I probably wouldn't have had a canning season here this year. Something killed my cucumbers, my zucchini never grew, and something stole all of the squash off of my plants. Got to pickings of yellow wax beans and green beans, just enough for dinner times two. It's been a sad, sad year. I told OC just go to Aldi and pick up some flats of veggies, cause the garden just isn't putting out this year. Oh and every time my tomatoes get even a blush of color on them they're covered in those little black bugs and they're gone in a few hours.
I thought I was the only one. I don't grow enough to can but enough to keep me out of the grocery store if I want.
Not this year. I bought plants that were spindlier than seedlings I started. Part of the problem is likely I haven't spent much time out there but for watering everyday due to extreme health issues this year.
Also had tree rats eating everything. They are eating all the little melons. As soon as maters get a little color they're eating those. They even ate all the green bean plants, california poppies and morning glories! I have never seen anything like it!
Bout ready to just give up on this gardening deal! We probably haven't harvested even five whole pounds of produce. A few tiny little squash and tomatoes and enough basil for one batch of pesto.
On a brighter note, I finally got lavender started from seed growing successfully. Need to plant some sage and start making soap again when they get big.
