[prep] kitchenaid grain mill?

I posted this question on the main board, but thought maybe someone here would have some advice. We are considering one of those add-on grain mills for our kitchenaid mixer. Does anyone have experience with these? How do they hold up?

Let me know if you end up getting this and how it does with producing bread flour. I have a whisper mill that I really like, but it would be nice to sut down on the appliance collection.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered a whisper mill online. After considering the experience of others, and some of the information available at Walton Feeds, I felt that it was worth the extra money. The attachment for the kitchenaid seems to be for only the occasional use, and not for regular milling of grain. Hard wheat will put some stress on it.

I posted the same question on the main board and got several references to other sites. Those interested here might enjoy the information on that other thread.

Good choice, Garryowen! Those whisper mills are wonderful! The Kitchen Aid machine is a great machine, but grinding grains is not the machine's strong suit. Now, mixing everything up after you have everything measured, and ground...that's a whole other story I LOVE my KA for kneading bread. But the Country Living Mill has to go to work first. Or the whisper mill Blessings! It's Just Me

Congrats on the Whisper.

I've used mine almost daily for nearly two years. I would recommend that you get a fine sieve to pull out most of the coarse bran. It will make for a very nice loaf of bread, and a must for quick breads and cakes.
