Hi, everyone~

What is the best brand and best place to purchase instant/powdered soy milk?

I've heard of the "Better than Milk" brand ~ anyone use it? Like it?

Thanks so much!

Blessings to all~

Polly, I'm glad you posted this. I've been looking for powdered soy milk and have not been able to find it.

I'm wondering what the shelf life would be too.

Hi, Flagwaver~
I ordered one small can of "Better Than Milk" this morning from http://www.outletnutrition.com just to see how it tastes, how easily it mixes, etc.

I've seen BTM for $139.99 for 25 lbs, which works out to about $1.97 per half-gallon, if I did the math right. So it isn't a whole lot cheaper than ready-to-drink (probably not any cheaper once you figure s&h). But the shelf-life and the fact that you can mix only the amount you need, as well as it's flexibility for storage, use in baking, making your own mixes, etc. is what I'm looking for.

There may certainly be better prices out there on BTM (hopefully??), I just haven't found them yet.

I've also seen references to a powdered soy milk called "Solait", but can't seem to find much info on it, or anywhere to order in bulk.

One thing I have learned is that "Better than Milk" is tofu based, not straight from the soybean. Sounds interesting. Can't wait to see what it's like.

God bless,
~Polly

Polly, that Better than Milk looks real promising. Is it 100% free of whey/milk? Two in my family have milk allergies so this is a good find. Thanks!

Deena, I can't find soy powder on that site unless it's the Swiss Whey Delight. If you see your friend again and can ask what it's called, I'd sure thank you. :) The more options the better.

The Blue Chip group sells flax seed in bulk. How long will it last? Anybody know?

"Better Than Milk"

Hi, Flagwaver~

The "Better Thank Milk" arrived, and it is really GOOD!

I mixed up a qt and put it in our just-almost-empty Silk soy milk carton, and ds never even noticed the change. I sure noticed, though ~ the BTM tastes lots better, IMHO. I can pour it up for a nice cold drink and enjoy it (I don't enjoy other soy milks plain).

It is a "lighter" milk ~ both in color and texture, than the Silk and other boxed milks. It mixes easily with slightly warm water, and then you dilute to your liking.

Here's some info from the label.......

At the top, it says "Vegan Beverage Mix" ~ Low fat ~ lactose free ~ Cholesterol free ~ Caseinate free ~ Gluten free.

Ingredients: Tofu (water, soy solids, calcium sulfate), maltodextrin (from corn), modified food starch, sunflower oil, calcium blend, natural flavors (no msg, no dairy), sea salt, guar gum, xanthan gum, anatase titanium dioxide (a mineral for color), vegetable mono and diglycerides, vitamin b12, vinamin e

Serving size: 2 Tablespoons powder (23 g) makes 8 oz mixed
Container size: 736 g
Servings per container: about 32 (about 8 qts mixed)

Calories: 100
Fat 2.5 g
sodium 100 mg
protein 2g

Shelf life: purchased June 04, and the expiry date on the bottom of the can says 08-03-05, so it should last a year easily!

I haven't tried it in baking yet, but look forward to making my own "mixes" with it, especially pancake mix.

I'm going to check with the SDA Foundation store that my parents frequent to see if it can be purchased a bit more cheaply there. They seem to be more reasonable on many items such as this ~ I'll let you know if it is a better deal, as she is always glad to ship anywhere.

Blessings to you!

Thanks for publishing the ingredients--DD is allergic to corn so I have to be extra careful what she gets.
