…… Possibly scam, but I can't figure it out.

There is probably a scam in here somewhere but I can't figure it out.

Wife gets a order confirmation email from Lowe's.
Her name is on it but the shipping address is a truck tire shop 30 miles away.
It's for a 600 some dollar mixer.
The last 4 digits of the cc used is not ours.
The email itself passes my snif test. (Still didn't click on anything)

I take the order number right to Lowe's website to check it using the wife's email addy.

Order shows up and is cancelled.
No other info.

Any ideas?

I get these daily. PayPal orders, credit card orders, etc. The senders want you to call them at the Help Line they provide on the email. Oh, sir or mam, could you please confirm your credit card number and what was that security code on the back? That’s the scam. Once they have your CC number and security code, it's off to the races.
I forward the emails I get from “PayPal” to
phishing@paypal.com
There are other sites to report scam and phishing emails if you are so inclined.
Block the sender, delete the email.
Never call or interact with these people.

This IS a scam. I got a legitimate-looking Lowes email and did the same thing you did. I followed up with calls to the home company, and they were not aware of the email. A week later I called again and learned that Lowes had declined a credit application in my name a few days earlier - and Lowes didn't bother to inform me. A nice call center employee looked through my record and found it. He said NEVER do business with Lowes outside of a store.

Scam. Got your email off from a list and send it out. Most people are getting smarter and will not click on links now.
So, they get you to call the 1-800 number and get you to give them your CC info.

These people are skilled. They have a sociopathic window into how to perfectly manipulate the average person.

A few months ago, I had to nearly argue my way to convincing a good friend that she was about to be ripped off by an internet puppy scam. She is waaay smarter and more savvy than I am, but still had an impossible time believing the con wasn't legit. They have all the bases covered, and there are a ton of them out there.

I had one recently that said, " A 3,000 Mac Pro and an 1800 iPad are being charge to your Amazon account. If you did not order the please call us at...."

I had recent fraud on my cc so it made me nervous. But what I did was call the CC company and had them look at it..No charge was pending.

As to the recent fraud I have no idea how anyone got my CC number. I had not used the card in awhile. However, I was notified by my bank that a new card was in the mail and to please verify with he security code. I forgot my card was about to expire and I never received that card. The bank had to cancel my card and send me a new one. That renewal one never has shown up. I suspect someone else found it or stole it in the mail.

Problem is this is a real order that pulls up on the Lowe's site.

The email is not bogus technically.

This explains an email I recently received as well. I figured it was an identity theft attempt or something but couldn't figure. I never respond to emails like that ad I know they spoof businesses or banks sites.

I get about 50 emails per day..I may keep and open between 2-5.
I just delete delete delete.
Also have received similar phone calls
The worse the economy gets the more scams will surface
Be careful

NO one from ANY Govt. entity, Bank or similar and certainly not ANY LEA I know of is going to reach out to you by phone or email. Govt or lenders use snail mail unless you authorised email contact when you visited their sites.

A popular scam around here recently was people identifying as Deputy X from SCSO or an IRS Auditor threatening incarceration unless some fine or penalty was paid with Gift Cards.

We have our home phone turned off and I block any unknown number on my cell phone. I never open an email that looks suspecious. Even if I answered the phone I would never give out personal information. Sometimes I've played along just for $hits and giggles.

Same here except ours was supposedly from our cell carrier.
All good until " can you confirm. . . . . . .?"

No, not now or ever. If you're from the carrier, tell me what you've got on the screen. No? Can't/Won't?
