Possibly Overlooked Prep Item

I have uber pale skin, as does my husband and daughter. Because of this, included in our stores, is sunblock. Lots of it. Especially SPF 60 for my little one. If push comes to shove, and we're all walking to the hills, we'll be out in the sun, and getting burned. Do we really want to be running for our lives with our skin blistering from being exposed to the sun?

A good thought. I keep baby safe sun screen in all of my bug out bags. Getting sun burned would only compound our problems and it doesn't have to be a big bottle.

I have found that sunblock that is 2 years old just doen't work as well any more. I end up with a false sense of security and literally burned.

I have gotten a few of those long sleeve super-light and vented shirts that are terrific, as well as a sun hat. Don't forget items like this that can also double at keeping the insects away.

GliSODin for sun protection -- cheap powder form from BAC

So does everyone who uses sunblock, because sunblock does not work. Clothes work. Shelter works. Staying out of the sun works. Certain antioxidants work for a limited time. SOD from melons is known to work. You can buy it cheap, here:

SOD, GliSODin®, “the antioxidant catalyst,” is the first orally effective, vegetarian form of superoxide dismutase (SOD); the only one that has been shown to increase the body’s own circulating SOD levels by oral ingestion. [...] A recent study on protection from the sun’s effects concludes, “GliSODin usage prepares the skin for exposure to the sun and undeniably improves the condition of both the patient’s skin and general condition.” In 1 IU/mg powder, the usual dose for healthy humans is 250mg/day regular use; 500mg/day therapeutic use, probably less when mixed with other antioxidants. 50 grams, $41.50.

I keep sun block and insect repellent in all the bug out bags. Now I am adding it to the car kits.

Great idea! With all the intense heat and traffic jams around here lately, (NYC area), I had just put great big light colored umbrellas in all the cars for shade in case we got stuck on the highway, but I will now add sunblock.

Thanks!

I keep several of the SPF45 baby sunblock wipes in the BOB's.

Takes up very little to no space and weight.
