Human remains are found in wreckage on Philadelphia's I-95 after tanker truck fire
Human remains have been found in the wreckage of the Interstate 95 collapse in Philadelphia.
Part of the major US highway, which extends from the Maine-Canada border south to Miami,
Florida, collapsed on Sunday after a tanker truck carrying an estimated 8,500 gallons of fuel caught fire.
It brought traffic to a stop on the artery, on which more than 160,000 vehicles a day travel, and has now resulted in at least one fatality.
Sources told
Action 6 News that the driver's remains were removed from the cab of the tractor-trailer Monday morning but the victim has not been publicly identified.
It is believed to be those of Nathaniel Moody, whose family members confirmed he was the driver of the tractor-trailer.
Officials are now working to clear the site and allow traffic to once again move along the major north-south corridor ahead of the summer vacation rush, but the
clean-up efforts may take months to complete.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg warned the collapse could once again snarl the country's supply chain.
